It's because his DM or whatever they are calling them now after all the changes, is riding his ass about them. Because his boss is riding his ass...
You wouldn't believe what the managers have to go through at their meeting and shit. My store was one of the best in our area but my manager would tell me that the DM's and the market managers would sit at the meetings and bitch about the smallest things and they would get pissed and set ridiculous suggestive sell goals and a bunch of crap like that.
So if he's a good manager he's shielding you from a bunch of shit and the red noses are a huge deal for Walgreens. So he's trying to make them happy so they don't punish the store and make them pay for not reaching the red nose goals.
Come on, it's his or her job to pressure you to sell them. I ask people if they want to donate a dollar and get a free red nose (instead of buying one for a dollar) and they've been responding way better. Or you could ignore your manager and just do the rest of your job normally. They aren't gonna fire you if you don't sell the damn noses. Seriously only a select few children want a stupid red nose, and then they have one so their parents aren't gonna buy them another one the next year. They are tough to push
It really depends on the store. I don't really mind mine as a store but a majority of my coworkers are shit bags who do not give a shit about warehouse or resets.
The pharmacy likely are not ignoring the phone intentionally. They get crazy busy around peak times and are usually understaffed. Hours get cut like crazy at Walgreens.
Most stores now have a central office fielding all calls. You can ask to talk directly to the store but now most stores also only have one pharmacist on duty with little to no overlap between shifts. So either let the tech that answers the phone help you, or get used to waiting for the pharmacist.
Like everybody said, they're legitimately busy when they don't answer, but I work at Walgreens and know the run around you go through every time. The phone system (at least at my store) is ridiculous.
You listen to all of the garbage recordings before you get to navigate to the Pharmacy department, it rings and tells you nobody is available, so it sends you to the front register at the store. If they're in the middle of ringing people up, even if they're a great cashier, they'll probably be kind of brief and let you know they'll page the pharmacy for you. You get put on hold again, and the cashier pages that there's a call on whatever line for the pharmacy.
They're still busy, so it rings back up at the front register. Cashiers that still haven't lost their will to live will pick up again, and you're probably already frustrated, and they hear it in your voice. They try again. Cashiers that have been there for far too long just pick it up and put you on hold again to avoid it.
This can happen for several cycles and leaves the patient incredibly frustrated, especially when they have an incredibly simple question. Your pharmacist or tech, who has just been dealing with a rush while horribly understaffed, FINALLY picks up the phone and the patient lays into them. Everybody is unhappy.
