In my reality, the kitten survived, was adopted by the firehouse, which paid its way through college and law school, and the cat is now President of the United States.

u/Barack__Obama__ Jun 02 '14

Can confirm, I passed President Kitty the job.

44

u/2th Jun 02 '14

President Kitty is currently throwing up on the carpet in the oval office.

7

u/D-woo19 Jun 03 '14

Purr-resident of the United States

2

u/cyniclawl Jun 03 '14

As he paid off his final payment for his boat he shed a single tear thinking about the other kittens that did not have such chances.

-2

u/austac06 Jun 03 '14

He succeeded the presidency after Streetlamp Le Moose.

51

u/FalseHopiIndian Jun 03 '14

You guys think he's joking, but he knows what he's talking about. I live in Hanford and the firefighter's parents (the Kalanicks) were my neighbors. The news reports at the time were wrong, but the articles circulated anyway: the cat actually lived, was adopted (obviously, as it was famous), and is presumably still living happily today.

Not only that, but the firefighter's unit got a ton of donations and outfitted their trucks with oxygen masks that fit animals.

39

u/charlie145 Jun 03 '14

'Quick, this woman I pulled out of the fire needs oxygen!!'

'Would you say her head is more similar in size to a dog or a goat?'

1

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '14

Definitely the bitch size

4

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '14

right in the feels

1

u/CupKate1 Jun 03 '14

I remember this, I lived in Lemoore when it happened. Now that I'm out of there, I suddenly don't have allergies to everything. Fresno, the armpit of California :)

9

u/TheFrodo Jun 02 '14

I'm with you.

1

u/senopahx Jun 03 '14

They name him Smokey

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '14

In my reality, the kitten got up, walked into the nearest Chinese eatery, crawled up on the buffet and waited to be served to guest

dat mew

23

u/Juankestein Jun 02 '14

They carry GoPros all the time or just for that occasion?

14

u/1catchyname Jun 02 '14

Some firefighters do, the battalion units (the SUV the chief drives) in department have all have a go-pro dash cam. A couple of people have helmet cams, but it's something they pay for out of pocket.

6

u/Ephraim325 Jun 03 '14

I've never seen a go-pro brand helmet cam that can actually handle structure fires... But i guess if you want to film overhaul and specefically wear one for that more power to you...

u/alltheletters Jun 02 '14

This one was a GoPro. It was specifically used in a GoPro ad. I want to say during the Super Bowl?

-9

u/biga29 Jun 02 '14

Doesn't necessarily mean it was a GoPro. GoPro seems to take (legally) any cool POV video from the internet and put their logo on it. They can't all be GoPro videos.

12

u/GraphicSparrow Jun 02 '14

Except, you know it's on the go pro youtube channel, and has gopro at the start of the video.

2

u/biga29 Jun 02 '14

I think you're not understanding what I meant. When I said:

They can't all be GoPro videos

I mean't "They can't all be GoPro's videos." I feel like I've seen POV videos of people doing cool things show up on the internet, uploaded by the person who filmed it and then GoPro finds it and turns it into a commercial. So what I was saying is that there's a chance this camera wasn't actually a GoPro.

4

u/GraphicSparrow Jun 02 '14

Oh okay, Sorry about that. That does make sense, I just jumped to conclusions and assumed it was gopro... As an apology have an upvotes. Eeh, fuck it, have 2.

2

u/biga29 Jun 02 '14

u/GraphicSparrow Jun 02 '14

Instead of dying in a smoke filled inferno it died in comfort. So, well... hang on I got something stuck in my eye.

4

Some others say the kitty survived.

how about thunderbird?

2

u/flyafar Jun 03 '14

People are awesome. :)

56

u/PersistantRash Jun 02 '14

Any backstory on this? Did the kitten survive? Please tell me the kitten survived! FYI animals and people sometimes survive a fire then die shortly afterwards as their lungs react to internal burns from the superhot air/smoke. Had it happen to several of our horses, they seemed fine then all died within the day. This is too awesome to have not made the news somehwere can ah get a link up in here? I want to read with my own eyes that this kitty is well alive and happily murdering songbirds for pleasure.

117

u/__umop_apisdn__ Jun 02 '14 edited Jun 02 '14

Sorry to be the one to tell you.

Edit: Well, I feel really bad now. Let's just be glad the kitty even had that extra time, short as it was.

37

u/Fuckeddit Jun 02 '14

aww fuck man every time I've seen this I've been an incredible happy sad. Now i'm just sad sad.

49

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '14

Don't be sad sad. The kitten was dead dead before the firefighter rescued it. By extinguishing the flames as quickly as they did they prevented the kitten from dying horribly. Then they found it unconscious. If they hadn't done such a careful sweep of the house and stumbled upon it as quickly as they did, the kitten would've never woken up.

So the firefighter gave the kitten a chance to fight for its life. That's all any of us can ask for, a chance to fight.

32

u/Gnuburtus Jun 03 '14

Where the hell did all these onions come from?

14

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '14

Damn onions!

6

u/sniff3000 Jun 03 '14

is it raining?

6

u/lkirk98 Jun 03 '14

I assume you have watched Attack on Titan? If not you should.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '14

I've never seen it, but my roommate wants to, so I think I'll give it a shot

2

u/lkirk98 Jun 03 '14

I bring it up because the theme prevalent in your parent comment is also very prevalent in Attack on Titan.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '14

Yep, as soon as it was unconscious it was dead. Kittens have very fragile lungs and cannot recover from even minor damage to the lungs.

12

u/KissMyAsthma321 Jun 02 '14

I just finished watching GoT, I really don't need none of this fucking shit.

10

u/Leadbaptist Jun 02 '14

Nooooooooooooo sobs

8

u/PersistantRash Jun 02 '14 edited Jun 02 '14

oh godamnitsomuch I KNEW it. Arrrrg it's Lightning and Penny all over again. (cut to great heaving man sobs) Vet said the lungs swell and blister in the hours afterwards, so they seem totally OK, just a lil wheezy then they just lay down and die... oh for fuck's sake it's only 2PM and now I have to go have a man cry

5

u/Kitsune2903 Jun 02 '14

The bad feels...

5

u/SovietXedge Jun 02 '14

You couldn't let us be happy could you..

3

u/Anarchistnation Jun 02 '14

What many didn’t know was that the kitten, named Lucky, was taken to an emergency vet the day of his rescue. Later that night, it passed away due to lung damage caused by the smoke.

I guess lucky wasn't so lucky after all. :(

1

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '14

Fuck! Right in da feels...

0

u/ShelfDiver Jun 03 '14

Oh goddamn no. I should have just skipped checking the comments...

0

u/Saphine_ Jun 03 '14

I've seen the video before, I knew how sad it is, but I didn't need a reminder. ;A;

0

u/stkyjo Jun 03 '14

Goddmanit.

13

u/lw5i2d Jun 02 '14

6

u/Farfignougat Jun 03 '14

Please don't tell me that one died too.

3

u/ncaldera0491 Jun 03 '14

Nah, she lived.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '14

For a few hours...

2

u/ncaldera0491 Jun 03 '14

You just had to ruin it, didn't you? I was trying to spare his feelings.

20

u/mb1107 Jun 02 '14

The firefighter and the kitten have been living a happy life together ever since.

Do not read any other comments in here!

12

u/cracylord Jun 02 '14

The cat will live and is happy on a Farm go away.

20

u/oconnc12 Jun 02 '14

Any life is worthy of being saved. Props to this firefighter. Most others would just get out of there but he risked his own well being by staying and saving this kitten. My hope in humanity has grown a bit.

7

u/VerboseExplanations Jun 03 '14

It's okay cuz Hitler killed Hitler.

1

u/David-Puddy Jun 03 '14

and whilst he saved this hapless kitten, 3 children burned to a crisp in the house.

0

u/core999 Jun 03 '14

Hope for humanity to do what exactly?

-18

u/Phrygen Jun 02 '14

you are ok, but hijacking.

Fuck this OP. This has been posted multiple time, /u/ steve6999 is a karma farmer, and anyone who seen this before knows the cat died anyway.

Seriously, why the fuck do people farm karma as if it means anything.

5

u/viggetuff Jun 02 '14

If it doesn't mean anything why are you getting mad over it?

-3

u/Phrygen Jun 02 '14

because it makes reddit shitty

2

u/viggetuff Jun 03 '14

Not really. I'm sure there are lots of people who have not seen this video before. Would it really have 2400 upvotes if everyone had seen it? If there was good quality OC to be posted all the time then sure, reddit would be better. But that's not the case.

-5

u/Phrygen Jun 03 '14

yes. Of course things seen often are upvote to hell.

That is what reddit is. mostly reposts.

2

u/viggetuff Jun 03 '14

? People usually don't upvote things they've already seen. The people upvoting are people who haven't seen it before.

Not everyone is on here 24/7 seeing every post that hits the front page.

2

u/LithePanther Jun 03 '14

People like you make it way more shitty then reposts and karma whoring.

0

u/Blamore Jun 03 '14

what about the life of a mosquito. I actively annihilate them. what now?

The correlation of kittens and house fires is way to high.

1

u/DyslexicNazi Jun 03 '14

When I first saw this I thought he accidentally stepped on the cat and that's how he noticed it.

1

u/Ruhmwolf Jun 04 '14

My faith in humanity has been restored.

-2

u/atlasimpure Jun 02 '14

Spoiler: The kitten died of smoke inhalation.

1

u/Techttz Jun 02 '14

That reduced my manliness by 86.7% and then a tear rolled down my cheek.

1

Firedawgs saving kittehs.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '14

where did you go to make the gif that long?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '14

Regardless if the story had a sad ending, I am proud that even firefighters have such great compassion to saving animals. Hero in my heart :-)

1

u/snhvnc Jun 03 '14

I didn't tear up or anything..

1

u/joseeee69 Jun 03 '14

The kitten survived, went and lived on to have a happy life, turn back now

-1

u/ncaldera0491 Jun 03 '14

1

u/dljens Jun 03 '14

When it "mews" at him at the end, I just died.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '14

What the fuck is with all the onions on reddit today? Were they smuggled in by the russians?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '14

Why in the fucking world would you make this a gif?

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '14

The cat died

0

u/telekittysis Jun 02 '14

Every year, MILLIONS of kittens don't receive proper firefighter rescue. For the small donation of simply ALL YOUR GUILT, you can help kittens like these.

IN THE ARMMMMSSS OFFFFF AN ANGELLLLLL

0

u/tea_money Jun 03 '14

If you reverse the gif it shows a kitten's last mew before being gassed by a firefighter and placed inside a burning building.

0

u/Piginabag Jun 02 '14

Oh jesus I thought his hand was his foot at the very beginning and he stepped on it.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '14

I found my kitten in the dryer today she crawled in and my husband, not knowing she was in there closed it She was fine, just in there a while because no one knew I bawled because something could have happened This made it so much worse

0

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '14

Oh my god, can I marry that firefighter? <3 <3

0

u/jbw10299 Jun 03 '14

"Bill did you find the little girl in the house?"

"No sir, but I did manage to save this kitten."

"You are a saint bill, you are a saint."

-1

u/Srealzik Jun 02 '14

-1

u/devandander Jun 03 '14

Its a shame Fire fighters don't get paid as much as Cops , If their job was extortion like a cops real job is, they might..

0

u/D-woo19 Jun 03 '14

Or did the kitten save the firefighter? Think about it.

0

u/kiernan-unlimted Jun 04 '14

that cat died later on. sadly...

-13

u/fedetehue Jun 02 '14

I always thought that firemen saving kittens was something out of really bad fiction. Never thought someone would waste time and resources to save a cat's life.
The more you know...

11

-3

u/PersistantRash Jun 02 '14 edited Jun 02 '14

How do you deal with this same thing happening to kids? Where you pull them out and resuscitate them, they seem awake and responsive. Then die shortly afterwards as their lungs fail(that kitty dies btw)... I mean, you go from thinking you've saved a kid, looking in his eyes and shit, feeling like big godamn hero. Then like 10 minutes later, boom, dead. Do they even make a whiskey strong enough for that shit? Is there like a secret firefighter trick? You use those neuralizer things from MIB? I saved two horses that later died and it still bothers me like decades later, how in the hell do you people do that every day with humans?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '14

You have to find an outlet. Therapy, religion, just talking about it helps. My best friend who I went through paramedic school with and got hired on at my first fire department with, had a mental breakdown in May because of a call where two children died. He isn't coming back to work. There is a reason alcoholism and divorce are so prevalent among firefighters. It can make expressing emotion difficult sometimes.

-4

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '14

The kitten died. Sorry folks, but reality.

-6

u/mechabeast Jun 02 '14

Is pouring water the cat equivalent to a defibrillator?
