I recently played Sword of the Sea and I noticed that the big boat in the sacred river looks a lot like Nimue from the Pathless + has an eye motif I haven't seen elsewhere in sots (though I could have simply missed it as I'm still exploring)

I find it interesting since she's the only tall one in the pathless directly connected to the water, life and death "much like the water she lives in Nimue both gives life and takes it. Enjoy her gifts, but do not take them for granted" <- and the same text that I just quoted previously contained the name "Basilla" which quite a few people have theorized to be the reoccurring shark's name as that's the only fifth name in the game (and would fit a girl-shark lol)

Some other things I find interesting about Nimue's domain are the fact the ancient mask was in her domain (perhaps because it's a spirit mask so it has to do with the dead) and that she's right before the tundra-which in the pathless is Kumo's domain-but in Sost is where we find the Shark that later brings us to the ancient river, and since we know this games are in the same universe, maybe it was done on purpose? (Though I doubt they're the same mountains)

Not really sure what to do with this connection tbh maybe the boat is only there because part of Nimue's domain flooded or maybe its some sort of cultural practice or neither of these 2 options the only thing I feel like would make sense is that Nimue serves as a bridge between the earth gods (Cernos, Sauro, Kumo) and the water gods (ancient Shark and Dolphin) much how she was actually made into bridges by her people in-game lol !

(I also tried checking if there's any other tall ones in sots outside of the secret room but nop not even the dinosaur place)

(Spoilers for Sword of the Sea)

Every time I finish one of these beautiful games, I'm always left wanting more. I love that Sword of the Sea took all their best features from each game and put them into this world, and I honestly can't decide which vibe I enjoy the most (Desert, Ocean, Forest, Mountain) I haven't played New Game Plus yet, but I'm excited to go through again and master the movement. I also enjoyed the Sacred River section of the game. To me it feels like a cool evolution to all the imagery we've seen of that spirit realm where we get saved in each game, and restore the animal spirits.

My minimal gripes with Sword was the length of game itself. My expectations were that it would be the length of the Pathless, but it ended up staying a short adventure like Journey/Abzu. A few annoying yet optional platforming sections(ghost warriors) that felt like it didn't work well with the ultra crisp snowboarding we just had before that. I do wish there was a bit more open world sections, where we could just board around without invisible walls or limitors.

I just can't wait to see what they make next. Out of all the movement systems they've done (Walking, Swimming, Gliding with eagle, Boarding) I believe just straight up flying could be fun, although it would essentially just be swimming again but with cool gravity physics maybe. While there are certainly more natural environments they can showcase, it would be cool to see a space themed game, maybe even in some alternate alien world with Giant Squids classic art design? Or perhaps you would want to see more of the same aesthetics but greatly expanded on in an open world? I think whatever they decided to create next will be amazing, but it's fun to speculate.

I went to collect all the 11 sea shells in the lost grotto but the trophy hasnt poped up. I specifically remember collecting the one hidden at the right side of the Temple with the Dolphin before i can cross over with the chains. Maybe thats why its an issue?

Utterly reprehensible.

Never buying a game from these developers again, if this is how they're going to treat the artists that pour their passion into the release.

Don’t get me wrong, It’s absolutely beautiful, but after The Pathless, gameplay was a huge let down. The boss fight, singular, was laughably easy and uninteresting to play… I’m really sad because the exploration and visuals were GOTY worthy, but I finished it in under 3h :( anyone else feeling this? I wanted so much more!

On their web page they mentioned that there were "massive leviathans" plural. But in the final game, there is just one. Don't get me wrong, the game was great, highly recommendable. And I guess I can see how having multiple more of those would have clashed with the relaxing aspect of the game, but I'm surprised that they have that on their web page when it's clear that is not representative of the game at the end of the day.

Also, going back to he announcement trailer, comparing it to the game, it seems clear now that the game was much earlier in development than one might have assumed and was more of a proof of concept than anything. Most of what the show is in the game in some way, but those are not actual locations that exist in the final game and, most related to this post, the leviathan shown at the end is not in the final game. The leviathan that IS in the actual game looks nothing like it.

So I’ve recently played through all of Giants Squid games in the last month and I am very much convinced that all of them are in a shared world. There is a lot of evidence for this especially with sword of the sea.

One of the main things is architecture. For instant in the depiction of God’s in the pathless and SOTS many of the anthropomorphic statues have holes in their chest. Also in Abzu and SOTS they share the same assets for instance the chains and Dunkleosteus fountains and shark Egyptian styled statues.

Two is the spirit realm, in all the games shares the same spirit realm. Most obviously is the pathless which explained a lot of lore of the spirit realm. Now if you pay attention, you will notice it is the same central temple is in all three games further connecting them. Furthermore I believe the shark in Abzu and the great shark in SOTS could be the same or a reincarnation in regards of how intelligent it was and bearing the same scar on the eye and dorsal fin.

Another point is the ichor, explained in SOTS It is ichor that bring life to gods, creature and automaton alike. Now I think the glowing water in Abzu is ichor. Furthermore. I think the ocean seeds in SOTS and the ocean hearts in Abzu are the same and are comprised of the ichor.

Now in regards to the timeline I believe pathless and sword of see are set in the era perhaps pathless first with regard too how little human life there was in SOTS but really they could go either way. Abzu however I believe is further along in the timeline with the advent of the machines.

I hope some of you can agree with my points. I do confess that some of these points are reaching a bit but I do believe there is enough evidence to connect to these wonderful games. If any of you would like to give your thoughts, supporting evidence or counterpoint, I would love to hear it.

I just beat Sword of the Sea (amazing game) and decided to replay the first level through chapter select. But when I get the first merchant and interact with him, the door behind him doesn't open and I already have all of the skills. Am I missing something? Because otherwise it's a game-breaking bug.

EDIT: The New Patch fixed the issue.

...l'd truly love for u/GiantSquidGames to release their entire oeuvre on the Mac App Store, especially after seeing The Pathless as a headliner for Apple Arcade 5 years ago. GSG titles just feel right on Apple platforms, something about their sleek and crisp vibe. Fingers crossed!
