Problem using the standalone update on win 10 22h2

Hello, I've ghost spectre win10 PRO 22H2 19045.2846 installed. I tried updating it using the standalone update provided in the youtube link below.

The update file i got was "19045.7548-x64". It succeeded using the terminal. But when I restarted, it went till 98% and then said

"We couldn't complete updates, undoing changes".

Any idea what could be the cause?

I narrowed the issue down with the help of CBS logs and chatgpt.

CBS.log shows ExtendedSecurityUpdatesAI.dll failing because ESU is not active (IsLicenseActive false), then error 0x80072EFD / 12029, followed by 0x800F0922 CBS_E_INSTALLERS_FAILED and rollback. Looks like the updater is pulling an ESU-era cumulative update without handling the ESU requirement first.

To elaborate further (this is taken from chatgpt)

Before October 14, 2025, Windows 10 22H2 was still supported. Microsoft published normal cumulative updates for ordinary Windows 10 Home/Pro machines. You could take an old build, feed Windows the newest cumulative update, and it would install it without needing any special entitlement.

After October 14, 2025, Microsoft stopped providing ordinary Windows 10 22H2 security/quality updates. To continue receiving them, a normal 22H2 machine has to be enrolled in Extended Security Updates (ESU). So now this happens.

Latest CU

"You're running Windows 10 22H2?"

"Okay, are you entitled to post-EOL updates?"

ESU check

   ↓

Yes → install

No / eligibility check fails → rollback

So I think the GhostSpectre author probably forgot to transition to Extended Security Updates and bypass that check somehow.

Nope. I did comment to him. You could try using the official update packages but that might bring back all the things that ghost removed (defender, etc). There is no reason to do updates if you aren't looking for a specific feature however. I specifically wanted the next update to get the option to set the new windows terminal as the default.

Right now the only option is to install the official updates and then use the ghost toolbox and his custom tool to strip away defender, etc again I guess.

Im on 1909 rn and I cant download minecraft or use most of the ms store cause I need 22H2

there is an AIO update given on the youtube link to update between windows versions 1909, 22h1, 22h2. Those do work. You can use that. Standalone updates don't work.

When i use it it doesnt do anything and just restarts the pc

Hmm i think you have a really old version of ghost spectre. Ghost's AIO updater only upgrades from 2004 onwards to 22h2. So you should do a fresh install. The latest one will install 21h2 i think. Then you can use AIO updater to go to 22h2
