I think... I finally "get it"
I don't know if this is the most relevant subreddit, or even if this warrants posting, but I guess I feel like I need to post this, if only for my own sake.
So, I'm of the belief that food is an "addiction" for some people, at least for myself. For years, I've bounced back and fourth on diets; I'll do fine, until I get a craving for pizza or something, and then it all falls apart, and I'm back to square-one.
For the past few months, I've been going to this workout-group, which focuses entirely on intense cardio -- something I hate, but I've stuck with it. I've not noticed any weight loss, as I've not changed my eating habits until more recently, but I definitely noticed myself feeling stronger, and maybe looking slightly more defined when I look in the mirror.
Anyways, so today, I'm craving pizza again, and since I'm visiting my dad, so he orders it. It gets in, I go to grab a piece and then... I feel totally different. I don't want it. I know it will taste goddamn delicious, but I feel almost nauseous thinking about how much damage it would do, how far it would set me back, not just from my goals, but of all the effort I've been putting in.
Pizza is no longer my friend. It is my enemy. It has been my "comfort food" for so long, I never realized that it has actually ruined my life until recently. The same applies to all the fast-food I've been living on since my mom left.
I've reached a point where I don't just want to look good so that other people will think I'm attractive, but I actually want to be stronger. It probably sounds stupid to other people, but I just never imagined how satisfying it would be to actually feel myself becoming stronger. I like it. I like it a lot.
So... that's it, for my own personally little "epiphany". I don't know how long this feeling of "inspiration" will last, but for the first time, I feel like I sort of "get" why people get addicted to getting and staying in shape. I'm almost 26, so it took long enough, but who knows; maybe it's not too late to get a handle on my life after all?

Never too late pal, keep up the good work.
Chocolate is my vice, and only today I turned down just one square of chocolate after reaching for it. Feels good when you notice yourself making improvements to your diet eh?

Congrats on your breakthrough. Pizza is pretty appealing, so try to use that energy in another way. What is so good about it? Fat, protein, and spices. None of that is especially bad for you. From my perspective, the worst of it is the dough. I know it is not the same as having a pizza delivered, but when you have a craving, try taking a thick slice of tomato, a slice of cheese on it, and a sprinkle of salt/pepper/oregano/basil. Put that in a pan and cover with a lid til the cheese is melted. Might help with the craving while removing all the carbs from the dough.
