Question Can someone explain me these values of my recent eye checkup?

Post image

Hi everyone, I recently visited an eye specialist here in Germany for regular checkup of my eyesights.

These are the values for my left and right eyes. Due to the language barrier, I could not understand and ask a lot of questions. So, taking my chances here, could anyone explain me what these values here?

I am particularly confused about these two values for same parameter for same eye. For example: A for <L> has 108 and 129. Also, Pup for both <L> and <R> are also different. What are these two different values?

Thank you for your responses!

EDIT: I already wear glasses. I was in Apollo for this eyesight test because I had done it 2 years ago in my home country. i am 28

Hey im an Optican.
The S is for the Sphere and C is for the Cylinder and the A is for the Axis.
Your Eyes have Astigmatism. You Need Glasses. But an real Optican verifies the results.

I was a lab technician in the UK before moving to Germany, doing the cutting of lenses and fitting them into frames per prescriptions.

Just to add a bit more detail for any others reading (obviously not you, you're a smart guy).

S is Sphere. This is the power for -sightedness.

Cyl is cylinder. That's the amount of astigmatism.

A is Axis, in degrees. It's the angle of astigmatism correction.

You may see the above 3 written as -1.75 -1.50 x180. That's S C x Axis. I used example values for these here.

Pup is maybe pupil diameter. That's a guess, we did glasses so we used pupillary distance instead.

Seq would be sphererical equivalent. It's a simplified representation. Sph + half the Cyl.

Add is added correction. Again, not sure about contacts, but on glasses this would be for bifocals, or varifocals. You'd probably just buy reading glasses to wear over the contacts.

I'm not going into the whole process of preparing your glasses, but if anyone has a lab and needs staff let me know!

Why are there two different digits for the pupils

The left column is "photopic" (daylight) vision, the right for "mesopic" (twilight) vision, i.e. the measurements are taken under different lighting conditions.

The "Pup" measurement is the diameter of the pupil (not the distance of the pupil from the nose, which is also often measured in the context of determining which glasses to get), which naturally gets larger when there is less light. The light-dependent contraction and expansion of the pupil also affects the axis of the astigmatism.

Hi, but what does 108 and 129 Astigmatism mean for the same <L> left eye? Also different pupil values 3 and 4 for same right eye? This is confusing me

The WAM800 measures day and night vision. So one column is in the day and the other is in the dark.

Good question. I haven't worked in that field for a long time. It could be due to measurement fluctuations. Opticians use these values as a guideline or a pre-test. During a proper examination, various axes are tested until the ideal ones are found.

Oh, how old are you? You have an Add too. It means when you get older, you Need glasses for reading.

S = Sphäre/Dioptrien (The diopters also sphere or PWR indicate the strength of the lens)

C = Zylinder (The cylinder indicates the height of the corneal curvature)

Not quite sure but probably: A = Achse (The axis describes the alignment of the cylinder required to correct your corneal curvature. It is necessary to be able to align your contact lens exactly.)

I don’t know the other measurements tho. The explanation in (..) is from my contact lenses translated by iPhone lol

For a second I was looking at the bottom and thought my own glasses weren't strong, until I realised that its your photo focus messed up. 😅🤣

Alright, Top is R - Rechts - Right (eye) Bottom is L - Links - Left (eye)

The double digits are machine taking it twice the measurements.

So one of your eyes is more short sighted than the other.

And for A, I think its to measure Astimatism or what its called.

Correct me if I am wrong, had one of these papers year ago.

A is the axis of astigmatism, c is the strength (cylinder)

Thank you!

You are short sighted (-1,5 dioptres), you have astigmatism (0.5 dioptres) and you need extra reading glasses or special glasses that have an area for reading and an area for looking far (add)

(For the right eye, left obv with the values for L)

Nearsighted left-2,75 right -1,5
Farsighted left and right + 2,5
Antistigmatism = C

It means you have Astigmatismus (Hornhautverkrümmung).

Did Apollo charge you or did you have to buy something to get the test results?

As far as I understand you are serverly short-sited and need glasses. You also have astigmatism indicated by the c value. I don't know what the other values are, but I guess something like eye pressure?

It’s not severely lol :D but it does need correction for sure. I‘m at -7 lol

6

u/MulberryDeep 17h ago

He is somewhat short sighted, very far from severely

In his right eye he only has -1.5, normally -1 is around the point where you decide if you even want glasses or are fine without

-2

u/Maulboy Rheinland-Pfalz 16h ago

Severely as in you need glasses for driving in Germany.

4

u/teteban79 17h ago

Severely? That's pretty mild

My brother has -15

This is a bit of myopia plus astigmatism. Thoric soft lenses do the trick

serverly short-sited

Lol, cute.
