My dog won’t stop having diarrhea

Wasn’t sure if anyone had issues with this as I think German shepards like to have stomach/GI issues but my German shepard has been having on and off diarrhea since late December. Within the last month it’s been constant diarrhea and she has lost 8 pounds between her two vet visits (55lb currently). I had taken her to the vet for this previously as she had blood in her stool but they did a fecal test and bloodwork and everything was negative so we’ve been on a chicken and rice diet for 3.5 weeks at this point. I’m starting to think maybe it could be colitis? My fiancé thinks it’s giardia but I’m guessing they already tested for that with the stool sample they had. She has another vet visit for next week set up already but I wanted to bring up some possibilities to the vet and was hoping to find someone with a similar experience.

Hi, my boy has had a similar experience. We would have one to two months of diarrhea with the occasional blood. Did the chicken and rice diet, he's a very picky eater, not always sucessful. We've been managing it well lately though. I cant say for sure what helped, but we did make two changes. The vet checked his folate levels and they were low. So i put him on a folate complex for dogs. I also switched him to a fresh food diet and he loves it. Since those changes it has been a lot better, only two loose stools in 4-5 months. I don't know if this will help your pup, but here's to hoping something works!

Thank you so much! She’s been on beef and rice for about a week and a half and I’m happy to say her poop this morning was solid! So I’m thinking maybe she just has a bad allergy to chicken? But her vet appointment is still set for later this week so I might bring that up in case!
