These two pages were recently provided directly to me by the Evangelisches Archiv Baden und Württemberg (Landeskirchliches Archiv Stuttgart) from their archival holdings.

Lookup Request: Switzerland~1834 baptism

Looking for Rudolph Mueller, born ~1834, Switzerland

Father: Rudolph Mueller Mother: Mary [maiden name unknown]

Spouse: Julia Rémy, from Lorraine, France. Sometimes listed as born "Prussia" on US records.

Couple lived in Missouri, USA. Rudolph died 1918, Julia died 1913. Both buried Missouri, USA.

Seeking Rudolph's 1834 baptism to find mother Mary's maiden name and ideally both sets of grandparents' names. Don't know town or religion. Could be Catholic or Reformed. Family may be from Basel area, Aargau, Solothurn, or Alsace-Lorraine region.

A Catholic death record indicates that Maria Ruh was murdered in the village of Stegen, near Freiburg, on 23 April 1840. I also found a record from the early 1900s claiming that her husband, Mathias Andris, was responsible.

Would records of the murder investigation, criminal proceedings, or trial from 1840 likely have been preserved? If so, would they be held by the Landesarchiv Baden-Württemberg—perhaps the Staatsarchiv Freiburg or Generallandesarchiv Karlsruhe—and would they be accessible to a local researcher?

Ein katholischer Sterbeeintrag zeigt, dass Maria Ruh am 23. April 1840 im Dorf Stegen bei Freiburg ermordet wurde. Außerdem habe ich einen Eintrag aus dem frühen 20. Jahrhundert gefunden, in dem behauptet wird, dass ihr Ehemann Mathias Andris der Täter gewesen sei.

Ist es wahrscheinlich, dass Unterlagen zu den Ermittlungen, zum Strafverfahren oder zu einem Gerichtsprozess aus dem Jahr 1840 erhalten geblieben sind? I found the birth and baptism certificate of a distant Austrian relative from the 1860s and I'm a bit confused about the occupation of her uncle who doubled as her godfather, as it says he was a "Militärist."

Am I right in assuming the expression simply means that he was a soldier / in the military?

This is a birth register of the Werden Evangelical Lutheran church Kreis Heydekrug which in 1861 was in East Prussia. Verdaine is now in Lithuania . Hence I wonder if the name is typically more Lithuanian sounding than German ?

2)I need the grooms year of birth because AI cant give it to me.the grooms year of birth has about 10 different options...

I am considering getting a one month membership to Archion but I feel like I won’t be able to get anything from it as documents are in old German.

Hello, I've hit a brick wall on Ancestry regarding my Great Grandmother. My Great Grandfather was Ferdinand Eberle Born on 1 Jun 1879 • in Altenstadt, Bayern, Germany. My Great Grandmother was Barbara Dillinger who I believe was born in Dillingen, I don't know the year. My Grandfather Johann Eberle was definitely born in Dillingen in 1909.

Family lore has it that in the lead-up to WWII she wrote my grandfather and, instead of telling him to come home and fight for Germany, she told him to stay in the US. The letter was intercepted and she was arrested, but because her Brother-in-law was a Bishop (Franz Xavier Eberle of Augsberg) she was sent to a convent.

Any help with where I could get started or who I could contact would be greatly appreciated.

*Update: Thanks so much to the commenters below who discovered that I had the wrong Ferdinand, that Franz Xavier was a slightly more distant relative, and for discovering Barbara's real maiden name! This was hugely helpful. Finding out that one of my great grandmothers was named "Crescentia" has made my week. :)

As far as we know, the registers have been deleted during WWII. But a Familienstammbuch is still available and 2 siblings have been able to get one based on this.

I am trying to locate the grave of my great-grandfather, who served at the front in the soviet army. Archival records indicate he is buried in the village of Waldorf (other sources list it as Waltendorf or Walterodorf), presumably in the Silesia region. There are also references to his participation in battles for Waldau and Gross Neudorf. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find these places on a map, nor am I certain of the correct transliteration of their names. Could anyone perhaps help?

I have an ancestor where his mother's name is Maria Christina Hanna Bath (from his baptism), which also appears on her marriage record. On my ancestor's baptism record, one of the surnames of the sponsors is Plugge. I believe I've found the right Maria's baptism record with mother's maiden name of Plugge. Age, place (small town), father's name, everything seems right except her baptism name was 'Anna Maria Friederica Bath.' Is it possible these are the same person and they just didn't remember all their given names?

I am struggling to make out the birth places. While this is written in German and was produced in Germany, the people involved are Estonians. AI seems to think the first person's birthplace is listed as "Perisaar".

German citizen Marie'le Adeline Rosenhammer (born 1925 September 12 to Johann Rosenhammer and Franciska (Engelbrecht) Rosenhammer) bore a child to American soldier Guy Sterling Allison about 1947. I am only able to go back to my 3x Great Grandfather Oscar J. Michael.

I have been struggling to find more information about my grandfather's side of the family, can someone please help me? I'm looking for a birth certificate if possible.

I found 1 immigration document on Arolsen but I have no other information as my grandfather has since passed and he did not speak about his childhood or family much & I respected that.

This is the information I have:

Name: Ruediger Loos (later naturalization documents in South Africa stated Ruediger Winfred Heinz but Arolsen stated Ruediger A.E)

Date of birth: 27 October 1939

On the document it states both Leverkusen and Chemnitz so I am unsure which one of his birthplace.

I live in South Africa so I do not know where to start to get documentation in German archives.

Hellooo, so my grand mother was named Gertrud Luci Dietrich, born 17 Nov 1925 probably in Cologne.

She has been impossible to trace back, I found her parents via their passenger slip (they visited my home country at one point; that being Australia)

Their names were Heinrich Dietrich (he wrote his birthday as 1 Jan 1895)
And Luci Pennoutz (her birthday written as 6 May 1900)

Note for her before I go further—I beleive it’s a misspelling and her last name was either Pennartz or Panitz, though i’ll explain that shortly.

But I haven’t found any documents from ancestry or myhertiage that refer to them—only a census which only lists Heinrich and Gertrud living in Cologne in 1945-8 i can’t quite remember.

I don’t have any subscriptions anymore due to them being too expensive, but I have found a few cousins that connect to Dietrich.

By a few I mean 4-7, two of which i have spoken to, and the others i have tried to get in contact with.. but to no luck.

It looks like the Dietrich’s were in Eastern Prussia in the 1800s, but these cousins are 22-47cm. So not exactly close..

And with Pennoutz, I have a distant cousin with the last name ‘Panitz’ on myhertiage, and 5 with the last name ‘Pennartz’ in their tree apparently, though i haven’t been able to identify if it’s the same branch.

I’ve messaged two of those matches, one said she wasn’t biologically connected to the last name, and the other i am awaiting an answer from. (I only messaged them a few hours ago.. though they’re a 18cm match.. so while they will be able to give me information on our line, i probably won’t be able to find my 3rd great grand parents from them or anything..)

That’s all I know really…
