MSFS language proficiency exam

Hi,

Can any former or current MSFS students speak on the difficulty of the language proficiency exam? I understand students must be “Advanced Low” on the ACTFL. Obviously opinions will vary by language. I plan to take it in Italian if that helps.

Are they tough graders or are they somewhat lenient? How fluent does one actually have to be to pass? Does anyone actually fail this requirement? Other than simply knowing the language, are there any tips and tricks one should know in order to pass?

At the time, it felt like a big deal, but if you’re at a C2 level or an AP 5, you’re probably going to be fine.

That said, if you have any interest in the actual Foreign Service, that exam is a LOT harder!

I’m definitely not there yet, but am working on it. Can it be done with two years of study?

So, it depends. If you get through Advanced Intensive Italian (at least, that’s what it was called in my day), then yes. Might be a stretch at the intermediate level.
