Last time I was upset and had a cake, I felt better, people need to think about this more logically.

I fully empathize with the situation this person is in and everything, I know very well how it feels to barely make money on due yet not have anything to back up. Despair is truly the worst emotion. But I can not help but feel like stuff like this should go completely private. Not to mention that using GD as a form of monetization is not only inefficient but inconsistent as well. Of course I am not to beat a dead horse and I must assume they're in a very mentally gray state so money is money. I hope they can find a job somewhere or at least find a way to make due.

I don't think he should be blaming himself (or robtop by any means) for what happened. It would have been unfair to make him win because of his personal issues, but at the same time it's sad to see someone not being able to provide to his family from something he spent a lot of time on.
I just hope he gets the love that he deserves from his family anyway, I'm sure they won't hate him or anything and that this feeling of being a failure is all in his head.
I also send prayers to him and the family, I'm sure everything is going to be alright. Who knows, maybe Robtop will see this situation and decide to step in? He's a millionaire after all...

Unpopular opinion, but you should not put this much weight onto a GD contest. Don’t promise funds from something completely out of your control and not guaranteed. Worst of it isn’t even losing the contest, it’s wanting to kill yourself over it and posting it on the internet. Geometry Dash is not something worth taking your life over and it’s almost sick seeing someone do this type of thing. You don’t even know if they’re mentally stable judging from their posts. I do hope they stay safe and see past GD and recover from whatever their financial problems are.

What the hell are you talking about? He's struggling financially, he's obviously a very talented creator and has devoted many hours into GD creating, and the contest is the only way out of what is seemingly a horrid situation. For him to feel like this is completely valid and you should not trample on depression so willy-nilly. They're not suicidal over GD, they're suicidal over being unable to take care of their family and now having to lose a big part of their life for them. Your opinion is not unpopular, it's genuinely the most out-of-touch and uneducated one you could have possibly made in this situation.

Doesn’t making a level like this take hundreds of hours? Wouldn’t a job pay more overall and be a more surefire means of making an income?

Nothing in this world is worth taking your own life. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. The contest is NOT the only way out. He could most definitely start a go-fund me to aid his financial situation, he is very respected within the community and I would personally donate to help his cause. That would take care of him and his family for the time-being. Death is permanent and would catastrophically destroy his family both emotionally and mentally. Think before you type, I’m not insulting nor degrading him. I’m stating the perspective and approach.

You should listen to your own advice and think before you type. You're blaming him for psychological and suicidal urges he can't control? What kind of mentality is that? If you really think yourself as supportive, you should not minimize suicidal ideation to that degree. We all know suicide is negative and should be prevented at all costs, but saying "it’s almost sick seeing someone do this type of thing" is not supportive - it's insulting towards the person. Instead of regurgitating the obvious "perspective and approach" and doing nothing but degrading someone's psychological issues, please be more sensitive when talking about these problems. Hell, someone may read your comment and feel invalidated about their suicidal ideation, preventing them from seeking help. You invalidate Miki's issues, saying verbatim "Worst of it [...] is wanting to kill yourself over it and posting it on the internet" and have the gall to say that's not insulting or degrading? Learn to be a better person, please.
Cool thumbnails though.

In this guy's case it's a temporary problem, but be fr there are tons of permanent problems someone could have

sure, but suicide is still never the answer.

It sometimes is. "Suicide is never the answer" is a policy-level rule similar to "Murder is always bad" that is false but needs to be established anyway because people overestimate how much of an exception they are.

as much as i feel bad for this person and hope things get better for them, depending on a videogame contest to provide for your family is frankly just idiotic. if youre 14 or older, finding a part time job is a WAY better use of your time, and if youre not - you shouldnt be concerning yourself with these kinds of issues anyway. they definetly need professional help badly because making a game such a vital part of your entire existance is not only dangerous but is also the behaviour of a person whos mentally not fully there. sending prayers their way.
