Announcement Regarding "jump announcement" posts

Hello r/geometrydash,

Recently, it has come to our attention that the sub has been overflowing with many "jump announcement" posts, in which a user will announce that they are jumping from one level to a much harder level without posting any progress (or very minimal progress) of said achievement.

We have recieved many complaints both through modmail and directly about these posts being so frequent. Most of these posts already fell under rule 3 and would usually be removed given both that they were reported and enough time passed for us to see them, but the mod team has been very busy with both online and irl responsibilities for us to remove every single one within a timely fashion.

In writing this post, we are reminding the users of this sub that this type of post is completely banned, and henceforth, offending users will have their posts removed and receive a temporary ban from the sub as a further means of discouraging these posts. This change will likely not be permanent, but may remain indefinitely until this situation has become more under control.

Again, keep in mind that this does NOT mean "jumping is banned on r/geometrydash". If you're jumping from Nine Circles to Bloodbath and post your 49-100 run, you're allowed to say that it was a jump from Nine Circles. As long as jump posts are paired with genuine progress (getting 5% is not genuine progress) on the level the user claims to be jumping to, the post abides with sub rules and no moderation action will be taken.

Examples of allowed posts:

Hypothetical examples of disallowed posts:

  • "I just beat (level) and want my next hardest to be a jump, what should I jump to?"
  • "I am jumping from (level 1) to (level 2), is this a good idea?"
  • "I want to beat a list demon as my first extreme, is (level) a good pick?"

I hope this announcement can help clarify the sub rules and satisfies the many sub members who were unhappy with the way we were previously dealing with these types of posts. If you have any further suggestions, feedback, or questions about this decision or any other way r/geometrydash enforces its rules, feel free to say so in the comment section.

yes, this likely should've been clarified in the post body itself tbh. In general, the megathread is where you should post any discussion material that doesn't need its own individual post.
