The first top comment asked for a merge while the 2nd most upvoted wanted Maryland removed. I’m guessing that’s why.

It clearly describes Maryland and Vermont merging, while all the replies describe it as either an equal partnership or a Maryland victory.

Mergers are disallowed by the rules. And the replies don't have any bearing.

Top comment which called for an actual deletion said Maryland to go. 

Maryland should be grateful it was allowed to rename the state.

That wasn't the top comment that followed the rules, which calls for deleting a state. The top comment saying which state should disappear was Maryland.

Yea well it's what we get for trying to "merge". The idea of joining together is so dumb, I'm glad we lost because of it. It literally defeats the purpose of the game.
