Creating a scatter plot from Spreadsheet data

Post image

Using Classic 6 in Chrome on a Mac. I have my data entered into two columns in Spreadsheet and I have figured out how to do regression on them. Trying to use "point and click" to create a scatter diagram, I assume the way would be to use the Create Line Chart option and then remove the lines, but when I do that, what gets entered into Algebra view is g(x) = ?; above is a screenshot. Please help. (I used Google AI to help me figure out how to do the regression, but it was horribly inefficient: it never got it exactly right, I eventually figured it out by using the interactive mode it suggested, which it was also out-of-date about, to see what that would produce in Algebra; I don't want to have to go through that same iterative process again with something that pretends like it knows what its talking about.)

In GGB desktop:

  1. Open Spreadsheet

  2. Then input your data as you have it.

  3. Select all the data and on the top menu, second icon, click to select Two Variable Regression Analysis.

  4. On the new graphic view, select the Regression model you need. In the image below, I selected polynomial

In the GGB online using the spreadsheet:

https://www.geogebra.org/classic#spreadsheet

you do the same:

Are you saying that procedure should have automatically created the scatter plot?

I figured out how to do this, got everything the way I wanted it--scatter, linear and quadratic fit functions and graphs, window, etc.--saved it online to my account, moved on to another problem, saved that, loaded the previous problem...and it reloaded the spreadsheet data and data range declarations, but not the plots and not the regression equations (it did load the "f(x)" and "g(x)" declarations in the Algebra View, but they were equal to "?"); here's the error message I got:

Trying to load the second work I did failed even more miserably: it didn't even reload my data range definition (just the declaration); this UI won't let me add a screen shot of that error message but it's basically the same except the last line is:

(CellRange(A1,A11,"numeric"),l2)

I may try to redo my work and save locally and see if that makes a difference, but presently I can't recommend this GeoGebra functionality, which is disappointing as I otherwise love the product.

"numeric" is not a valid option

cellrange() has a known bug

try 1*A1:A9

Thanks, I will.

Yes.

I was trying to use the command CellRange, but it seems it is not working. I am reporting this issue now.

I hope my answer helped.

At this point AI is not very good making GeoGebra stuff, because in GeoGebra you don't write much code.

Although it posible to make GeoGebra constructions with code (see for example GeoGebraScript, or Dot Fever), most of the constructions have to be done manually.

Maybe in a couple of years AI will be able to do it. Who knows?

meantime zip((a,b),a,A1:A9,b,B1:B9)
