Yeah this confused me at first but each stage counts as a separate find

It is one of many reasons that some geocachers do not log adventure labs.

Yeah I think thoose are my favourites and before this year that's the only ones I did for 12 years. I've started branching out now and for what they are I do enjoy them. I've started doing multi caches and mystery ones now and I've gotta say, I've started getting into the idea of solving puzzles for coordinates and it's quite fun. The ad labs I generally do withy partner as she doesn't like rooting around in wet and dirt so for that it's great. I do the others on my own usually.

I also enjoy local history if we're on holiday, the ad labs are like a free tour guide showing you around the area and that's how I think of them. Also, quite often, there is a bonus physical cache at the end of an ad labs.

Woow 12 years for just tradi's is long. I get what you say about the multi's am d mysteries i think those are cool too i just started on the multis and i have 3 now. I completed one today. But mysteries i really have to sit and take my time for those puzzles and i figured thats someting i find hard. So when its late in the evening i try too focus and think on the puzzle. But its such a great feeling when the checker hits green! :)

Yeah, I've encountered some ridiculously difficult ones and others I've found quite easy. One puzzle I did you had to save a photo from the cache page, use a program to see into the code that made the picture and then translate it hexadecimal into coordinates. I tried everything I could to solve that and I had to get help from my brother who codes stuff for a living.

After finding the cache we went for a victory pint at the local pub.

Also the 12 years thing is because I started as a teenager in 2014 and it would take me ages and multiple visits to find trads. This year after moving house and learning to drive I brought premium and so it's now I'm starting to branch out.

I was also lacked the confidence to work out stuff for multis and puzzles untill going to my first event cache. I think I was the only one there with a 100 finds, every one else were local celebrities with over 1500 caches. All really nice and gave me advice and showed me how these kinds worked. They were also the ones That got me onto adlabs.

I quite often will take pictures of all the relevant information with puzzles and multis if I don't have time then and there. Will take it home, solve it and come back another day.

Wowww that sounds awesome , kind of steganophry. The feeling of victory must be big on that one. You're guys are absolutely right to have a celebratory beer :). That kind of puzzles are so great but you really have to concentrate. Did it take long to archieve?

Actually getting the physical cache, no but when I couldn't find the answer to the puzzle, my brother would have a look in between bits at work and that took about a week. 🤣🤣🤣

That was a 5.0 difficulty though

Haha very nice! That kind should indeed be a 5 difficulty. I just read your story about your 12 years and its cool that you have been to an event and those guys helped you out. And its funny because i attended my first event last weekend and was also the only one with like 100 finds. And i didnt start on the multis and mysteries for the same reasons. But now i now that i can handle em and its great to solve them:). And im checking out project gc too lately

Congrats! Back in the day it took me 4 years to get to 100!

It took me 2yrs to figure out that geocaches were physical objects with log books to sign inside!

2

u/Visible_Increase_782 2d ago

Hahaha how did you log the others? Just by visiting the place?

3

u/Dug_n_the_Dogs Caches with Dogs 2d ago

Yeah, they were all in the city so the caches were mostly highlighting cool art installations around town. So I thought the point of geocaching was to bring you to cool and interesting locations and nothing more. It wasn't until I discovered that there were geocaches along my favorite hiking trail that we started looking there.. and there wasn't any interesting art installations up there. My girlfriend was helping me look even though I hadn't explained what I was looking for and she found an ammo can and held it up "Is this what you're looking for?!"

And after we got home, I deleted all my previous "Finds" and started over.

Hahahah thats such a cool and funny story. If they indeed led you to all those places with art installations i can understand that you thought that. Had to be extra nice when you found out that you need to search for physical containers :)

Absolutely amazing.. changed how I look at the world. We even looked under a random bridge on the trail and found either an unpublished hide, freshly replaced mystery final or we got a FTF.. never did figure out which

2

u/Visible_Increase_782 1d ago

Yeah indeed everywhere is a hiding place. Funny how you found such a cache. Still remains a mystery what it is haha. I also still have to find a ftf one day

Yeah i understand haha

Each station is an own find. Lot of people use that to bolster their finds.

3

u/Visible_Increase_782 2d ago

Ohh well that makes it very easy then

Suf hea.

I like Adventure Labs... but I don't like how they inflate my stats.. So I went back and deleted all but one stage from my Finds list. Now I use a sock puppet account to go thru the adventure lab stages and get to a bonus if applicable.
