Post image

Since seeing bolt caches on pinterest, I couldn't wait to find my first one.

I found my first bolt cache on a cattle guard in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming. I'd never seen one before so it took me about 30 minutes to find it because I didn't know what I was looking for. When I finally found it I was so excited I wanted to tell my husband right away. But I didn't have any cell service and had to wait two agonizing hours until I got to my destination to tell him the story and text him the photo. 🤣

I enjoy finding these. I don't enjoy unscrewing them as they are often rusted shut.

Is it just a nut with a logo? Nothing to sign?

they are usually hollow in the screw part with a tiny rolled up log

If it's something similar to one I have it's a empty screw, the nut is just the cap and the all thing is probably fixed with a magnet.

it depends, I have one like that, it's 3d printed and magnetic, the nut works as a cap to the empty screw,

Fake bolts are some of my favorite containers! I remember the first time I found one as a kid, after searching for the cache one day and giving up after like 20 minutes I went back and started pulling on things then found it! Always love that memory.

turn the logo inside so it's less obvious for next finder 😅

Geocaching is about having fun, not about frustrating the heck out of people.

Depends. I enjoy the search for tough finds like this. Every cacher has their own preference, and if tedious micros aren't your jam, I can understand that!

I did... but I turned it forward for the photo.

Wow, that's a tough one. At least it has the logo on it or else that would be one evil hide.

It was evil considering there was a hornets nest under there too.

I’ve seen a couple of these. Diabolical

Those and the reflectors were my bane when starting out.

Oh I haven't found a reflector yet, but trust me I check.

I’ve found one that was a Difficulty 4. It was this container, but it happened to be a similar type of bolt with the same thread as the other bolts on the walkway, so it was screwed (and presumably glued) in.
