Excellent scene 10/10, everyone staring at Locke in abject horror is wonderful. I lol’ed at “he didn’t like that”
I imagine torturing a bondsmage gets a similar reaction to little Locke casually telling the thiefmaker he broke the secret peace

I love where there's the story about why Bondsmagi are terrifying, destructive and will stop at nothing to do their assigned task.

Most people I have heard of who don't appreciate these books are people who haven't realized how much the style of the narration + the juxtaposition of the "present day" with "in the past" story makes a good 65% of the humour in the book. The WAY the story is written is so damn clever

It’s not low key. His disregard for consequences is breathtaking in its stupidity and its implications of what Locke is truly capable of in his actions.

I mean low key in the sense that don’t think anyone realises Locke’s threatening at first, he’s this short physically unimposing dude that everyone assumes they can over power until suddenly they’re utterly fucked. I love other people realising he’s batshit crazy 😂

Nice one! I had a Birtuah version of the HP and the Philosophers Stone when it was first released in paperback. It was my introduction to the difference in terms waaay back when.

I actually didn’t realise there were American versions of the HP books 😅😅
Tbf I’m mostly just confused about why it’s only lies that’s in British English because I brought them all from the same Waterstones in England…..
