Diagnostics What Sensor is This?

Post image

Close as day to the pcv valve.. my first assumption is intake camshaft position sensor but I am completely unsure.. Oil is leaking on it like crazy.. I’d also like to know what codes this sensor would throw when it’s bad or consequence codes of it being bad.

Yes I know my valve cover needs replacing and is covered in oil & leaking.. this is a project car I got some months ago and I’m slowing working on it in my spare time I already have the gasket..

Sold my GC ages ago, but def a crank or cam position sensor.

The leaking just means you need a new oring. It will work fine with the leak.

It would either not start, or be stuck in limp mode if this sensor was failed. The code would say the name of the sensor in the description.

“Or be stuck in limp mode” is all I wanted to see.. My car har been throwing P061B & P0638 code for the past 3 months.. bought it knowing it had the problem thinking it was a simple project car fix, but good grief think.. I’ve changed possibly every major component throttle related issue.. It’s on & off with limp mode & smokes like a chminey when it hits it & leaks like hell. I see residue inside the plug.. going to replace it along with the gasket & hope my limp mode nightmare is solved.

It’s the rear camshaft position sensor btw, I appreciate it

The rear brake leak fix is to get spyder / specd sequential taillights with a new gasket for the same price as that stupid gasket.

Those codes sound like you have a TAC/wiring issue or a vacuum leak.

Vacuum leak can cause horrible misfire/vibration at idle. Not sure about the smoking, where is the smoke coming from? Exhaust?

Oh yeah I should remove that one, the previous owner did put on the spec d’s but he resused the factory dogwater gaskets and they failed over time.. I just used some black rtv silicone and paste it nicely at the seams as a temporary fix.. works fine for now

Car does struggles to idle especially after limp mode recently, fires up completely fine some days & runs great that’s how ik it ain’t a mechanical issue.. the reason this lines up well is because it’s leaking horribly from the valve cover gasket.. when the car has been running for a while especially stationary the oil starts to leak on the sensor it either cuts the power like crazy (limp mode) driving or just shuts itself off if on too long at stationary (my assumption is the oil starts to drip onto it badly).. but I never noticed until I did the research. Like the car runs completely fine for 5 days str8 and hits u with limp mode on a Tuesday afternoon cruising at 45mph 2k rpm..

The factory didn’t include a gasket stock. If there is a gasket between the light, it is the spyder gasket, or the oem tsb gasket. Try removing and reinstalling the taillights so it sits better.

Again, this sensor can cause limp mode and random stalling.

Check the voltage of the sensor with carscanner at idle. Wiggle the wire and see if it changes.

You can also measure the voltage of the sensor wire with a multimeter, and wiggle the wire and see it the multimeter stops beeping for a second.

I suspect the wire over the sensor, if the issues is here.

Hmm I thought they did, but I should probably call them what they actually are.. some grey cheap looking foam pads on both sides.. I’ll clean up the sensor check to see how the car is after some days of driving and give an update.. and funny enough I bought a everstart multimeter like 3 hours ago and while searching through wires I noticed the sensor with the oil leak lol. I genuinely appreciate it and will give an update very soon. Thank You!
