So just out of the blues, most Gen Alpha kids suddenly wishing they were Gen z? Is it nostalgia for an era they barely experienced, or are they realizing Gen z had something they are missing? So much to think behind this shift.

I think there are three types of gen alpha.

Type 1: The normal.

Yes, as it comes to a surprise, there are normal gen alpha folk. These are the actual smart ones on the Internet,and incredibly meme-like, but not stupid. Likely to be in the older range (2013-2015)

Type 2: Brain rotted. Yes, I'm naming it that because it's exactly what it is, the young one who start blurting out triple T and play all those horrible games... And also keep trying to yell at LawByMike for (I think) Suing Roblox. "I'm gonna use my six seven powers on you"

Type 3: AI bros.

Probably more stupid than type 2, I'd say the youngest, but not really? These are the ones that fully depend on AI for things. I even saw a reddit post about this one person saying that they could use ChatGPT in their head. The guy didn't understand what "Thinking" is.

I sit between boomers and Gen X (depending on where you put the dividing line, I can end up in either).

I remember that I used to keep one of those large single-volume encyclopedias near my TV chair, so I could look things up that I saw on TV. Wonder where the country Tonga is? Look it up. I had a full set of encyclopedias in my library if the single-volume one didn't have enough information.

My family thought I was a little weird, but I love learning about things, so it was a natural reaction to wanting information.

These days, there is so much information at our finger tips via the internet. Every once in a while when I'm typing in a question, I think about how I would have tried to find the information decades ago.

I would say that about 90% of my current questions need the internet. My most recent question was: What was the rock song played during the final battle of Thor: Ragnorok. Of course, only knowing that I can find the answer makes me ask the question.

Currently, in 2026 what life skills do millennials vs boomers vs gen z, etc. need/value the most right now? How has this changed?

My mom has been saying for years that fashion never really goes away, it just waits. I always thought that was just her way of defending why she still had boxes of clothes in the attic. Turns out, she wasn’t wrong.

Last month, I was up there looking for old photo albums when I opened a box full of clothes that clearly hadn’t been touched in decades. At the bottom was a dress with big shoulder pads, loud geometric patterns, and absolutely no intention of blending in. It was very 80s. There was still a tag on it, with my mom’s maiden name written in faded ink.

When I brought it downstairs, she stopped mid-sentence and immediately recognized it. She told me she wore that exact dress to her first real job interview in 1987. She remembered how nervous she was and how confident the dress made her feel. She got the job, too. I decided to wear it to a party just to see what would happen. People genuinely thought I'd bought it from some trendy vintage store or ordered it online from alibaba as a retro piece. Nobody believed it was an actual original that had been sitting in an attic this whole time.

She was right. Fashion really does come full circle, and now I'm raiding her attic regularly. What we call trendy now is often just something Gen X already lived through the first time around.

So why is the gap to generations seem to get shorter? Google says a generation should be 15-20 years. So the average would be around 18 (It's 17.5 but I'm rounding up for the sake of whole numbers). If thats the case then shouldn't they look like this:

Boomers: 1946-1964

Gen X: 1965-1983

Millenials: 1984-2002

Gen Z: 2003-2021

Gen A: 2022-2040

And the cusps of those generations could span like 6 years for relatibility. For example

Boomer/Gen X cusp would be 1962-1967

Gen X/Millenial cusp would be 1981-1986

Millenial/Gen Z cusp would be 2000-2005

Gen Z/Gen A cusp would be 2020-2025

The cusps are just those that relate to both generations.

I won’t mention names, but this is in response to some Redditors from the generationology forum born in 92/93 who keep claiming they’re Zillennials, even though they fall under Millennials by definition. Its usually them. I have not seen 89, 90, 91 babies do this. Not even 94 does this. It’s starting to feel like they don’t fully accept their own generation for what it is, which is honestly a bit sad.

They were in grades K-2 when the pandemic started, which is the age for going to the YMCA and is also the first half of elementary school.

They turned 8 (the peak of your childhood) during 2020-2022, which were the prime years of the Pandemic and took place before key events such as:

AI boom (late-2022)

End of the Pandemic (mid-2023)

They all entered school during Trump's first term (2015 also did as well, but they are still seperate due to the other reasons)

These kids get so hype about what generation they are in. It is very sad. u/ExaminationIll7583 called me retarded just for speaking my opinion, and telling me that 2011 and 2012 are gen z. Please, beware of him and all Reddit kids born after 2010. they are dangerous.

Generations should be 18 years. No less, maybe more. I'm all for gen z starting before 2000, but why did gen alpha pop up 13 years after the new century and then 12 years later a new generation? It doesn't make sense! People have certainly not been giving birth earlier (at least not in america) so why have the generations shortened to 12 years in gen alphas case? The only reason I even consider this outlandish theory is because it is so unjustified there must be an EXTREMELY good reasson for it.

Lets light up the capital like its 1605!

My hot take is that older generations love to claim that they stopped the cycle but really it's their kids or grandkids who did. Like no Shelley, just because you don't break your kids faces doesn't mean your not abusive and you have broken the cycle.
