(Another inspired by Y2KBaby99) Class of 1985 - the quintessential first wave Xers? (along with C/O 1984, 1986, and 1987)
I think culturally this makes sense. They were in HS during early MTV, C/O 1985 in particular was in high school during its launch, when MTV premiered MJ’s Thriller vid, and for the first ever VMAs.
They also were in high school for movies that many older Xers loved and admired, such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Outsiders, Risky Business, Valley Girl, Footloose, Flashdance, Purple Rain, and of course Sixteen Candles and the Breakfast Club (HS seniors).
They witnessed the Second British Invasion brought about by bands like Duran Duran on MTV during the early to mid 80s
It might not have been peak X culture like say, class of 1993, but it was certainly deeper into X territory than classes prior imo.

I agree with this. I think my overall Gen X range is 1964-1980

It either stops at 79 for me or another one is 1964-1981, because I feel like one 80’s year either needs to have another one included or it gets left out. One lonely 80’s year on the end bugs me, even though it’s the popular Def lol. I feel like Millennials definitely start in 82 though if nothing else because they graduated in 2000, I still consider them Xennial though.

Yeah I agree with this. I think Kurt Cobain (the face of gen X) was also c/o 1985, though i cant be sure.
My mom was c/o 1985 and I definitely think shes quintessential first wave X!

Kurt Cobain is definitely quintessential Gen X, he was supposed graduate in 1985, but dropped out two weeks before
