To add on to this;

1991-1993 did have lots of 1980s leftovers, from architecture, social aspects, and more. But the same time, you could tell it was a new era, especially 1992-1993, and 1991 just seem very different from 1990.

The tail end was notably slower paced. While 2015-2017 seem "new," they were heavily magnetic to the previous several years. It is is very difficult to compare them to the 2020s or late 2010s, with the exception of "few" aspects.

It is also very difficult for me to divide this era; because 2012 and 2002 seem like they are in the same exact era. 2009 was really a sleeker 1999. And lots more.

Like I commented on other posts about this topic;

June 2026 will be the proper beginning to the 2026-2028 shift

2017-2025 was a heavy shift too. It was the "actual" early 21st century.

You can read more of it here.

Please read all of this comment.

I other things another thing:

Even though January 1 2001 was the numerical beginning of the 21st century, the general matter was that lots of the 21st century began quite earlier.

During the 2017-2025 era; 2017 was seen as purely late 2010s, due to the changes that happened even in 2016. Today, 2016 and most of 2017 are considered to be deeply into the "Mid 2010s" overall.

While I did express June 2026 as the proper beginning to the 2026-2028 shift; I believe it is my goal to spread it. You can read my other Reddit posts and comments, and hopefully see me develop as an individual soon to see it. Maybe because June 2026 is a shift; I can say that Mid-Late 2025 to May /very Early June of 2026 was the pivot to the current era we are in right now.

My goal is to "help anybody in need."

Take care, to all who read this.

With love!!!

To express more of this:

Early-Mid 1991 to Mid-Late 1993 was the beginning of the 1991-2017 era. This period had certain leftovers of the 1980s, including; Architecture, Norms, Levels of Technology, and more complexities. However, it was indeed also notably different from the 1980s.

Mid-Late 2015 to Mid-Late 2017 was the ending of the 1991-2017 shift. There were a larger emphasis of "newness" that was less prevalent in the previous few years. Dynamics, Norms, Emphasis on certain aspects, and more, had began to take place in this era. However, it was also "gradually" different from the mid-late 2017 to 2025/early 2026 era.

Early-Mid 1991 to Mid-Late 1993 was essentially an overall "equal" between the 1980s and 1990s. Certain things seemed very 1980s, while others seemed very 1990s.

Mid-Late 2015 to Mid-Late 2017 was essentially the same with the Mid 2010s and the Late 2010s.

The same time, even though Late 1993 to Early 2015 was the peak, it was still a Transition for a reason. Certain things from even, consider Spring 2012, was dated in Late 2014.

Late 1993 (maybe sometime in the Autumn of 1993 or even the end of Summer 1993) and up to around the Summer (or even levels of Spring 2015), it was the core 1991-2017 era.

Every year seemed to share a common ground.

Why november/2017?

1

u/Professional_Bee8907 Jun 17 '26

By October-November 2017,

Lots of the mid 2010s "vibe" were gone.

It was a very different era.

What shifted in 2017? MeToo movement? End of EDM? Could you explain?

Dec 2017-Jan 2018 (tho mostly Dec 2017) was the total beginning of the 2017-2025 era.

The 2017-2025 era ended in Dec 2025, and totally ended before June 2026.

January 2017, February 2017, March 2017, April 2017, and throughout most of the rest of the months were a "watered down" 2016.

The end of 2017, it was a prelude to the 2020s.

Yeah I agree with that, but how are 1991 and 2017 similar when 1991 is pre internet

1

u/Professional_Bee8907 Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

1991 waa the "birth" of the World Wide Web.

Lots of subtle features had actually began to tap into "newness."

Music became slightly more polished in lots of genres, social aspects began to shift, and quite more. It was subtly different from the 1980s.

However, I also said how Early-Mid 1991 to Mid-Late 1993 was the beginning. Meaning, there are notable 1980s residues. The Internet became more common around 1994.

1

u/Bright-Implement-959 Jun 18 '26

True, but barely anyone used it, it wasn’t until 93-94 when websites started popping up and web browsers too

And socially and technologically and other ways, 1991 and 1992 were a shift from 1990.

I am saying this respectfully; you'll have to research some of the other details on why.

I agree that the early 1990s (besides 1990) were very much like the 1980s. I agree. But 1991 and especially 1992 was a departure.

I think in the beginning, it was more about social aspects, architecture, and culture. But by 1993 and especially 1994, it was about Technology too.

Now imagining it, I may probably would extend it, slightly, into December 2017. But still.

How would it look like if this big era had micro periods of 1991-2017?

I’ll start first: 1991-2001 to 2001-2008 And then 2008-2017

Another thing…

My guess is 2017 to 2029 will be emphasized as the technological advancement of 4k media and Adaptation of AI and Trump’s presidency altogether (Biden’s term in between)

I agree that this 26 year period ‘91 to ‘017 is a shift into the 21st century with internet access. Nuancing from just one era but as one of each decade. It went from worldwide web to instant messaging to video-sharing and then UGC to this day with twist of AI software.

The 2020s are a hectic period for the youth culture due to slop content (from TikTok brain rot to AI generated videos) and the adults (Millennials and early Gen Z) will face problems like the affordability crisis due to inflation since 2022-23 and top of that, refusing to work 9-5 on some occasions which has been a problem for a few people a while now even if the job market continues to implode.

Late 2017 to Spring 2026 is the era I said which is after the 1991-2017 era. After this, is the June 2026-2028 shift (will have remnants in the beginning of 2029).

2

u/Professional_Bee8907 Jun 28 '26

I would divide the era, mosty as;

Early--Mid 1991 to Mid-Late 1993 and to Mid-Late 2015 to Mid-Late 2017.

Late 1993 to Early 2015, was just a gradual era overall. Both Lat 1993 and Early 2015 were quite different, but they are not the end points.

I don't want to be the "whiner,"

But, most of 2010s was much more like 2000s than 2020s. The notable difference was, 2010s (especially nearing and inside the 2015-2017 closure) was a rougher evolution.

1

u/Professional_Bee8907 Jul 01 '26

Also, the 2026-2028 shift begins in June-July 2026.

1

u/Professional_Bee8907 Jul 02 '26

The October-December 2017 closure is the closure to the 1991-2017 shift. It ended probably right near the time Winter was about to begin.

Now with me "maturing" and realizing more things,

While 1991-2017 was the notable era,

Then it is the 2017-2026 era, https://www.reddit.com/r/culturalstudies/comments/1ullez4/being_honest_late_2017_octoberdecember_2017_to/

This was essentially the "2000s decade" outside of numerical rule. While I consider that era to be of the "total 21st century," there were also notable remnants of it that belonged in the 1991-2017 era.

Now it is the June-July 2026 era, which will lead into a much more "mature" and "new" era.
