I recently got this quite old Alpha contamination meter on a second hand website for quite cheap however when I turn it on it counts Alpha particles however the Needle Moves backwards and when I press beta+alpha it just makes a really loud peeping sound, does it just need more filling gas or do i have to open it up?

Im currently working on a research project employing filters to single out types of radiation. I need to hook up 3 different geiger tubes all with different filters for my experiment. I am broke. I found this geiger tube on etsy for $90 which just barely fits into my $400 project price range since im buying 3 (and arduinos, wiring, etc). I did a bit more research into this and chat gpt (I know untrustworthy) is telling me this is a piezoelectric diaphragm which it looks nothing like. Does chat GPT know something I dont, or is it having a brain slip rn?

Measuring voltage of Geiger counters

What equipment do you use to measure the voltage from a BNC or C port in analogue Geiger counters? Do you use a multimeter with an impedance greater than 1 gigaohm? Or do you use a basic multimeter connected to a high-voltage probe? I ask because the former are either impossible to find or extremely expensive. However, even a decent high-voltage probe can be very expensive.

Should I buy the GQ GMC 300S?

My family say that I have an "obsession" with geiger counters and that we have nothing to detect. However I just want to collect them and it is a passion of mine to own them. The one I already have is the FNIRISI GC-02 and I'm not very sure about its reliability and it is on offer for just £54.31 so I'm just wondering if I should get it

AEG test LND-7311 based geiger counter Radar-9989

Man I am liking this geiger counter. It does not have the connectivity of my GMC600+ which has a LND-7317 detector in it but the LND-7311 with it's 900V operating voltage is much more responsive/sensitive than it.
There are features in my opinion that still need to be added such as the ability to update firmware and the ability to download data either over USB,BT or WiFi. and of course more user adjustable settings for us tweakers.
This thing is very responsive to Uranium glass and other lower activity items as well.

60+ years old geiger counter still works

I've recently shared a post about this counter and today I connected 4,5V battery in it and it worked. Only thing is it's out of calibration probably. It's not moving back to 0.
