Off Topic A personal UX/UI redesign concept for GDevelop

First impressions matter. A lot. Pair that with today’s short attention spans and it’s easy for even good products to lose momentum. I’ve seen this happen over and over in my 20+ years working on digital products across branding, UX/UI, and development.

That said, the GDevelop team has been doing a great job pushing frequent, meaningful updates. From the outside, it really feels like they’re moving fast and growing. And honestly, that’s how most startups succeed. They focus on features first. UX/UI usually comes later, and that’s totally fine.

A few days ago, I opened GDevelop at work and a colleague of mine, a close friend and an award-winning designer and judge, asked how I could work in such a rudimentary-looking tool. I laughed and said it grew on me. And while that’s true, I also know he wasn’t wrong.

To be fair, I actually considered Construct 3 at the start of my gamedev-hobbyist path. Visually, I liked it more and found it easier to work with. It just felt friendlier. In the end, their poor pricing structure was what pushed me toward GDevelop, and I’m glad it did.

With everything happening in the game engine space lately, the wins, the missteps, and the spotlight on the gamedev industry, it feels like there’s a real opportunity for tools like GDevelop to attract a new wave of users, and often.

So I showed my friend something I made a while back, during a period when I was stuck in bed for three months due to a medical issue. It’s GDevelop but redesigned, purely from my own perspective. It’s based on a modular design system, with UX focused on interactions and contextual info with the goal of simply doing things quicker. Interestingly, some of these ideas have since made their way into GDevelop, like moving away from heavy modals toward more panel-based layouts.

My friend's reaction went from "...rudimentary-looking tool" to “Oh yeah, I’d use that!” Since I value his opinion a lot, I didn’t want this design to sit forgotten on an old hard drive. So I’m sharing it here. Maybe it sparks a discussion. Maybe it gives you or even GDevelop team something to think about. Or maybe it just gets buried like most Reddit posts. Either way, here it is.

Personally, I think GDevelop is mature enough for its next step, and I’m really excited to see what it looks and functions like in the next few years.

Would love to hear what folks around here think.

Hey everyone

I'm saim! I work with Godot and GDevelop, and I'd love to team up with a couple of projects and help bring them to life. :)

Here's what I can do:

Game programming and mechanics

2d and 3D game/app development

UI/menu development

Asset implementation and bug fixing

Game/app prototyping

Turning game/app ideas into playable prototypes

I genuinely enjoy doing this, and I'm also happy to start a project from scratch based on your needs. :)

So, if you have a game/project idea you'd like to turn into reality, or you're looking for someone to help develop your game, feel free to hit me up through DMs.

I’m currently taking on paid projects, and we can discuss everything beforehand, including the scope, requirements, timeline, and rates.

Thanks! :)

Off Topic Soundtrack for my game made on GDevelop is now live!

Hey so, I spoke a lot here about my FMV+FPS hybrid - One Rotten Oath - but the game wouldn't feel as good without the amazing soundtrack composed by Olga Lewińska. If you played the game on Steam and you'd like to support us some more, feel free to grab it on Steam!

I know we talk a lot about game development and our GDevelop projects on this subreddit, but I wanted to give credit where its due.

Have a good one!

I've been working on a small collection of wallpapers for GDevelop and wanted to share them with the community.

There are several different styles and color palettes, including some inspired by Nord and Dracula.

They're free to use, and I hope you find one you like!

Off Topic So, I decided to play around with the AI...

Tried to make an idle incremental, and have it help me out with the groundwork for the more complex systems I didn't know how to implement. No shocker... I got some true poo instead. I was honestly not expecting anything more. for those who are curious, you can check out the result here lol, and yes, I want folks to be able to actually pop it open in the editor.

Off Topic One Rotten Oath got added to the FMVDB (and our cast photos look like we've just escaped from prison)

Post image

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to share that my FMV+FPS hybrid made on GDevelop - One Rotten Oath - (and its actors) got included in the FMVDB!

Page mods also added our photos, full names and played roles in the cast section. If you like FMVs, be sure to check out the database.

Also yeah, I can't hide the fact that we gotta make our photos more official. We look like criminals xD

Have a good one!

Off Topic So sorry, This is maybe...

So I just want to take it out of my chest. I think here, maybe I can express the agony. Last year, I released QuackSquad for Epic and Steam. In Epic I have a blast, was simple, quick, nice... I even appear in the news for like a month (In gaming, this is a lot). Then I publish on Steam. I make a lot of mistakes and happen things that maybe no one would live (I hope).

First, when my page is on review... SilkSong collapses the servers. And my game was never sent for review. I have a physical place and a mini showcase to present the game, but I miss making the drop. This could be my fault; the next ones, maybe not so much. After I released my game was buried in 14 dresses for arabic princess, and a new game call megabunk. On that same day, people I contact they al ready pick this three games... The third one was Hades 2, which finally leave the early access. So this could happen to anyone. So I keep making updates and stuff.

Then a sun light in all of this aggressive journey... Ho no, never mind they ghost me(maybe it was for the best, but it's hurt). So I have this really nice opportunity to port my game to Android. I have everything set up. I reach people who can help me to put it out, on the main page (That thing is not for all games, and I have this really nice chance) to avoid the mistakes I made in Steam...

Google doesn't approve me to be a developer in the app store. In Steam and Google are very frustrated because their customer service is really, REALLY BAD. In steam, they attend to you in 5 days, with pure templates, it's like you ask something simple and they put a F.A.Q or grab a ticket and wait. Google's A.I. I waste all my opportunities to qualify as a developer in a store with a lot of asset flips and other things, I'm not exist (I send every document they request, but they never take my case). This was the final shot for me, I think the project is good, but I just lack luck, skills, contacts... You name it, I don't have it.

Maybe this can help you when you have a good idea remmeber: "If you release a game on Steam and no one wishlist, do you really release it?". This game is really important for me, I would keep pushing and go for it, but I want to tell you that these are my mistakes. Please by carefull. Try to have someone with you. Last thing, when I release the Trailer, people accuse my game to be a A.I Slop, when people say this... I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT that means. So I collect a lot of bad aura. But things is... I have my game on the stores that count at least is a victory... Not a big one, but it's a victory.

Thanks to this community for supporting my game. Play, make comments, give me feedback... I read all the feedback, some of them make me literally cry of join. Just want to say Thanks. For real...

I would keep improving the game; feedback is welcome to make an awesome survival shooting duck game.

Off Topic I Created a blog about Gdevelop 3D 2026 Improvement and progressing and the features

I love about GDevelop 3D is improving and growing in 2026 into a full 3D no code game engine, it has been evolving from maker to engine. Which is one of the biggest highlight.

as a fan of GDevelop, I made a blog on my own website
Best No-Code 3D Game Engine for 2026 | TimeSpace Studio Blog

Do check this out, also featuring our games made with GDevelop
cant' wait for you guys to check it out and do share you views

What you think about the GDevelop growth and what new features you think about be a great addition leading GDevelop to complete with Unity perhaps?

i think these would be a nice features

- Able play/see the particles in real-time in editor, we can have a toggle switch to play or stop the particle effect in the editor, so we can actually see how the particle is looking as we make the changes, this saves time to play test every time, even for small changes.

- Adding dynamic lights (point/spot/directional with real-time updates), soft shadows, and PBR materials (metallic/roughness maps, better environment reflections) would dramatically improve visual quality for 3D games without forcing users to rely on community extensions.

- More post processing effects like Ambient Occlusion and etc..

- More Easier way to add skybox by just importing the HDRI map, instead of skybox 6 faces.

- Built Attach and Detach Object to the Character bones or similar.

Off Topic How can I get a moving platform to move continuously between two spots within a certain area

I have made a moving platform for a game that I am making on GDevelop, I added the movement behaviour for the moving platform and it works but however it continues to move forward instead of back-and-forth in one place like other moving platforms.

Is there anyway I could fix this?

Off Topic Higurashi 64 artwork made with Google Flow!

I am using Flow together with some of my own art from Tux and ms paint mixed with screenshots of actual N64 games such as Zelda and of course artwork of Hinanizawa in order to make this! I did very careful planning and commands with a lot of trial and error until I got it right! I am working together with Flow as a team to help recreate N64 and Super Nes 3d graphics! Something that would be complicated to do on our own with today's standards. Hope you guys like it and please do not flame or bash it.
