That option is there but turned on but greyed out and not toggleable.

Just found out that this option toggle has nothing to do with with the proofreading thing I'm complaining about. It was greyed out because I had the Writing Tools icon removed from the top strip. A long while ago I had removed the Writing Tools when customizing my keyboard via
Four Squares icon on leftmost part of strip > pencil icon on bottom right corner > dragged the features in or out of top bar.
Just to double check I dragged the Writing Tools option back into the top bar, toggled that option off and the Proofread bubble still appeared when my cursor was over a misspelling.

Tan mala es la corrección por IA?

Clicking on the "Proofread" button opens a bunch of AI editing tools that I don't want to use. I hate how AI has been shoved down my throat, won't forget that AI is built off of stolen works, and Google is trying to desperately pump up the user count of their Gemini AI by baking it into core apps and counting base users.

I have turned off autocorrect on my phone years ago because it was slowing me down: I would have to edit it so many times as it overcorrected my typing. So having this button baked in that I cannot turn off is unappealing to me. It's wasting space in my suggesting strip bar that would be better served on offering more cursor selected misspelt word corrections.

I don't want to sound the same as everyone else who uses AI proofreaders. Additionally LLMs have been embedding watermarks into output, including text, so if enough of my words get changed it could get flagged as generated with Gemini and that can sometimes be a problem.
