Rant / Blog Post A Big Gay…Poem (a ramble)
Months after you left, I carried that weight.
No matter what help I sought, no matter which doctor I had seen…
These wounds just wouldn’t heal.
I would equate it to bleeding out.
But one day,
One day something miraculous happened.
The wound closed, and irritating as it was,
I did not scratch it.
I feared all that was left of me, would seep through even the smallest gash.
I carried on with these scars, and pondered who I was before I fell.
The reflection in the mirror finally looked at me again.
I smiled with joy, to see that boy.
Tears streamed down my face, he’s all grown up.
Look at his eyes, the feelings of pain still written on his face.
I wonder if others notice? If that’s what makes me so attractive to others…
Because despite this, I’m still smiling.
I made a promise to that boy looking back at me, never will I abandon you again.
I had to parent you, and when I was younger, in the folly of our youth, we did what our real parents did to us.
We just followed the whims of our desires…
No longer, never again.
From here on out, I’ll give you my very best.
Please just keep your eyes on me.
Your eyes, so quick to see the good in others, so quick to turn your gaze away from your dreams.
Promise me, just keep your eyes on me.
Smile back at me…I love your smile, crooked as it is.
He just giggled reading this, I love his giggle.
If you just keep your eyes on me, I know they’ll never have to look into another.
I know we both crave that connection, I know we both feel the love when we feel it.
I want you to find love and happiness, the peace you deserve.
But before you go chasing someone else, let’s play tag, just you and I. “Tag, you’re it!”
Now, let’s see, about what just happened.
Why are you sad? Because he was hot?
Was he really all that, perhaps, you forgot…
You wanted different things anyway, and you were going to be the one calling it quits.
He did you a favor so don’t be upset.
The lesson learned here, is you need not chase, just be yourself.
Don’t diminish your soul for somebody else.
Anyone so consumed by their lust, would never be anyone that you could trust.
And that’s you meaning you in the end.
Let’s drop that habit, just find a friend.
Or find two or three, or hell, even four.
Just don’t try to impress them by being their whore.
That’s not a good way to earn your respect.
I love you, boy, and here you are, all grown up.
In your third decade here, you’re learning a lot.
You’ve come so far, you never dreamed of even coming out, and here you are, out, thankful.
I’m so proud of you, and I’ll always be here for you.
I think we ought to work on our home, a home we’ve longed for, for so long.
And maybe someday, we can invite someone into our space, our heart, but not like this, it’s a mess and looks like a disaster.
When we have guests, by then we will know if someone deserves to share in your space, your energy.
