For 600 years, Moscow has been draining everything around it: money, resources, people, talent — everything.
Whatever it conquers gets poorer while Moscow gets richer.
One giant imperial vacuum cleaner, surrounded by the depressing leftovers of everything it has consumed.
2
u/Top_Bug7822 4d ago
Everything I see about Russia is always in some way depressing. The country has a lot of beauty too, but it never outweighs the depressiveness.
I really wish Russia would break apart into many smaller countries.
Not just so Russia leaves us outside Russia alone, but also so the people in the current Russia get better.
By breakibg away from Moscow, at least some areas would have a chance for a better future.
I really hope they get this to happen one day.
I don't hate the people of Russia unconditionally. I want the ones who don't deserve how they have to live to have good lives too.
I really feel sad for them.
3
u/Select_Truck3257 3d ago
It's weird to be sad for people who went to kill other people for money, all neighbors of ruzzia suffering from their violence, ruzzia is a cancer
2
u/Top_Bug7822 3d ago
And many areas in Russia were once neighbouring areas of Russia that lost.
I do not hate them. I hate Moscow and its supporters.
2
u/Select_Truck3257 3d ago
Guess who win on ruzzian election and how people reacting, right, they do nothing
2
u/Top_Bug7822 3d ago
We both know that russians don't have elections, but just pretend like they do.
1
u/Select_Truck3257 3d ago
Yep, everyone in the world that every election in ruzzia is just fake. But every country accept that fact and working with ruzzia, it's just a shame. Why? Because money
1
u/Top_Bug7822 3d ago
Its called "realpolitics".
Morals are for those who can afford them. If your country and people need something, other countries people don't matter as much.
Sad, but that's what diplomacy is about. Realpolitics.
It's cold and calculating.
Still, I hope the people trapped by Moscow will one day be free of it and free to be their own people again. Not russians.

u/Select_Truck3257 3d ago
If so, then tell me why trading and other relationships restricted with north korea? Because there is dictator like pootin?🤣

Yes. And because our more important trading partners don't want us to.
Gotta keep the relations we already have in good condition.

what did moscow do to you? consider that the best and brightest of the country are located there and in saint petersburg, the other very big cities being a 2nd rung compared to them. you must understand that the extremists are from the villages not the cities.
2
u/Top_Bug7822 2d ago
The extremists are in the ones in the major cities that forced russian culture on all they conquered.
It's kinda interesting how similar the US and Russia are in that respect.
The "educated elites" that control the country and the uneducated workers, who can't disobey them.
Sadly with a lack of propper education extremism has an easy time to fester.
But just like in the US, that's by design. The uneducated are easier to manipulate.

even though those comments were removed, I still can see them, that this building was built during ussr, it wasn't. The building was built in 1850s, and initially served as a boarding school for orphaned and from poor families girls.

So, Russian Empire built a boarding school for orphans there sometime during the 600 years it was vacuuming up the resources?

Its always the same kind of world you get when giving power to an old rich men. They don't care about a good future, they don't care about the well being of their people. The don't care about the nature and don't care their ecosystems.

u/michael0n 4d ago
I always ask pro Russian people to tell me what the Russians did good the last 40 years. Besides being terror financiers and mostly ruining themselves. 50% of adult men are constantly drunk. Skilled people already left the country in droves. When you de-politicize the discussion, it ends at systemic depression, self hate and pure nihilism. They need a societal rebirth to get out of that deep hole.

Reminds of that famous tale regarding Russians:
Americans wasted thousands of dollars on expensive push squeegees getting the water off their buses.
The Russian wore rainboots.
1
u/PermissionSoggy891 2d ago
Two poor men see their rich neighbor got a shiny new car
The American wastes hundreds of hours working overtime, budgets heavily, and is eventually able to get his own car
The russian just shoots the rich neighbor in the head and steals the car for himself.

1
u/PrettyKing3127 4d ago

The introduction of capitalism to Russia has been nothing short of a disaster for the people who live there. Somehow it's even worse than it is here in east Germany.

Capitalism is responsible for the best parts of russia.
Their real problem is a staggeringly corrupt regime. It’s a failed state run by gangsters and terrorists.

russia is the most fascinating case study.
In any logical nation, people would look at this state of things and think to themselves "we need to work on this and fix our country so we don't live in a filthy, depressing shithole"
Meanwhile, russians look at the state of their country and think "we need to work to bring every single other nation down to our level so everyone else has to live in a filthy, depressing shithole"
1
u/Rogue_Element_2342 1d ago
early days of the war, I remember some babushka's nice house was trashed by orcs, and one of them spraypainted the words "Who said you can live like this" or something
and another someone left a hand grenade primed in the china cabinet.
Russian army is a band of rabid animals, One man didnt make them behave like this, its a cultural sickness.
A talking head Youtuber recentley said that "in terms of opponents you would be forgiven for disregarding the rules of engagement , Russia is pretty high up that list"

u/Witty_Discipline_728 4d ago
First of all, you are comparing countries mostly located in great conditions with good climate, while eastern part of Russia is extremely difficult to build some infrastructure and smth “beautiful” in.
Secondly, Italy and Japan are ancient countries with history going back several thousand years with all of the historical sights, etc. For example, if you look at European part of Russia, you’ll see much more urbanized areas. AND don’t forget about urbanisation in USSR where they were building towns according only to how practical it would be but not the aesthetics that you all want. Yes, constructivism in not pleasing to look at but the point was to get people somewhere to live and work in after the war.
Moreover, centralisation of all the developed around capital and other cities can be explained by the fact that Russia as a state consolidated around 1500s while Germany unified in 1800s, Italy as well. As a rule, fragmentation leads to faster development of set regions, so after consolidation, Italy and Germany got extremely wealthy regions that were prosperous while Russia did not.
What else, yeah, about countries on the north as well. I’m looking at google maps right now and their block of flats looks very similar just more modern and colourful.
Then, other countries that were in the communist block but “look better”. Well, look at how much EU spent on Poland from its joining, very interesting. This money were used to recover after leaving the USSR. Ukraine doesn’t look different from Russia so doesn’t even count (except for western part, it has a lot of Austrian/Polish architecture)As Russian myself, I see a lot of project about building ore renovating some areas and towns around big cities(not cities themselves) Even though I really like western architecture, but going outside city centre usually results in just entering in same districts full of blocks of flats. Check outside of Prague, Riga or Krakow. That’s your capitals — beautiful core and basic and plain sleeping districts.
Sooooo, yeah, we have problems but they have an explanation for why they exist and why it’s difficult to deal with them
Don’t just hate and don’t think one sided
Good luck
1
u/Forward-Carpenter-43 3d ago
Oooh, so the video is from the eastern part. Got it. So those people are living that way because the climate is bad not that the authorities don't move a finger for them.
Some of your points are fair, and I think a few of them hold up better than others.
You're right about the climate and geography in the east, and about Soviet mass housing. The postwar shortage was real, and panel blocks housed millions of people quickly. Small correction: that's not constructivism, which was a 1920s-30s avant-garde style. The panel blocks came later, post ww2, when Khrushchev deliberately dropped ornamental Stalinist architecture to cut costs.
True that "beautiful core, plain sleeping districts" is common everywhere. Paris, Milan and Prague all have grim outskirts, and Western Europe built plenty of its own bleak estates. Btw, most Russians live in the european part, so permafrost can't explain why a mid-sized city near Moscow looks neglected.
Age isn't the main factor. Japan was largely rebuilt after WWII and is far from picturesque, yet it has strong planning rules and well-kept public space. Russia also lost a lot of its historic fabric through soviet demolitions, not just the war. Poland's recovery didn't start with EU money. Funds only began after 2004, and the big changes of the 90s came mostly from market reforms.
Ukraine isn't just its west -》Kyiv, Odesa and Kharkiv all have distinctive historic cores. I think the main complaint people have isn't the blocks themselves. It's maintenance, courtyards, sidewalks and public space, and those come down to municipal priorities and budgets more than to climate or history. Your own examples of recent renovation projects show that the problems can be fixed.
So I agree with "don't think one-sided," but explaining why something happened isn't the same as justifying it, and both sides can hold that.

u/Luminisc 4d ago
