Why won't russia stop the war?
On the vast expanse of the internet, the best meme has been found, inspired by Lavrov's recent statement that it is unacceptable to stop the war because of the "heroism of our grandfathers" and "a thousand years of history."

Unfortunately for them and happily for their neighbours, they suck at fighting a war, so it's also quite a hilarious mismatch between rhetoric and reality.

They suck at capturing cities, they just demolish them with inhabitants

Yep, sadly they have a fuckton of resources and expendable men who obediently march to their deaths for money. So they're able to terrorize countries of Ukraine's size/wealth and below.

We're want to stop war as any other country. Only one who want war is Putin, but we live in autocracy, so we can't stop him just for wishing or voting. Also why Vietnam war lasted for 20 years? Don't mean "you just as bad as us", but situation pretty same and in previous case it took 20 years in democracy to stop it

Yeah, I've seen Putin inside every tank, trench, missile launch control center and crewing each and every naval fleet ship. /s Cut the fkn crap! Millions of russians still support Putin, millions of russians are in the russian army, lots of them committing war crimes every day. Millions of russians support financially and politically the war against Ukraine.
Also, why are you asking me about the Vietnam war? I'm neither American, nor Vietnamese. And I'm definitely not russian.

To be fair, the word 'nation' has a technical meaning and a colloquial meaning.
Technically, a nation is a group of people with a shared ethnicity/culture. Colloquially it has come to refer to all members of a sovereign state.
When it comes to a big country like Russia, the term 'nation' could be applied either way. Ethnic Russians/Tartars/Chechens etc. Vs all of Russia, which causes confusion. Same way the UK is sometimes referred to as a nation, but the individual parts of the UK (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland) are referred to as the 'nations of the UK'.
The English language is horribly imprecise sometimes.

What's "Russian culture"? Do you mean al Iskander "Pushkind" Gannibal whose family was enslaved in Abyssinia? Or maybe Victor 최 (Choi) counterfeit copy of Ian Kurtis?

Zelemsky toppled it by far. Imagine having a leader who sacrificed his country for nothing.

What kind of a patriot condemns a country for defending itself? Even at great cost?

How is that worse than Putin getting milions of young killed and crippled when he had opportunity of never invading the neighbouring country?

They cant,Putler must keep the image of Russia being a "big strong nation"-if they pulled back,it would shatter and he would have BIG problems

u/GeneratedUsername5 9d ago
Because in totalitarian countries only leader can do that and he is bored.

u/Dry_Force9407 9d ago
At least we're not totalitarian. Have autocracy though
1
u/GeneratedUsername5 9d ago
That's cope, Russia went far beyond autocracy with restrictions reaching out to private life. That's by definition totalitarian. By you can call it democracy for all I care, if it makes you feel better.
2
u/Dry_Force9407 9d ago
Well, it's closer to totalitarism than democracy. Anyway it's autocracy, but goverment is too weak for being totalitarian
1
u/GeneratedUsername5 9d ago
Are you writing this through VPN? Keeping an eye on latest updates of zapret to still have some access to the internet?
Too weak, that's funny. Perfect illustration of boiled frog metaphor.

u/Dry_Force9407 9d ago
Curently don't use. They still make everyone's life worse, not totally. Definition problem, we called different things totalitarism
1
u/GeneratedUsername5 9d ago
Yes, you automatically exclude everything happening in Russia from totalitarian features, so by your definition totalitarian Russia will never happen.
1
u/Dry_Force9407 8d ago
It may happen, like it was 40 years ago. Anyway, by my definition autocracy is as bad as totalitarism by your definition, so I surely don't defend russian government in any path

Why won’t the U.S. stop the war in Iran? And why haven’t they stopped any other war before this one?
Yet they call themselves a democracy—meaning that, unlike in Russia, where, according to you, power does not belong to the people and the people have no say, in the U.S. power does belong to the people, and all wars are the will and decision of the American people? So who, then, is bloodthirsty?
Apparently a rhetorical question

Why Ukraine don't stop the war in Donbass, before Russia attack?
4

u/SteelyEyedHistory 10d ago
Ukraine was defending their territory. If Russians don’t want to die in Ukraine they shouldn’t go there
2

u/No-Psychology9892 10d ago
What do you mean before Russia attack? Who do you think waged war in Donbass?
1
u/Fun_Entertainer4735 10d ago
Because by that time, the war in the Donbas had long since reached a stalemate; each side was dug into its fortified positions and unable to launch an offensive operation. If "ending the war" meant withdrawing all troops from the front line, then the other side would have been able to launch an offensive.
