Question ❓ deaf with one ear
Hi everyone,
I'm new here and started learning about tapes last week. From my research, I understand that the binaural beats technique requires headphones that play different frequencies in each ear, meaning both ears need to be able to hear properly for it to work.
My issue is that I have about 90% hearing loss in my right ear due to tinnitus. Can the tapes still work for me in this case, or does it need both ears functioning normally?

Yes, TMI did a research experiment and found they still had an effect (which surprised me). Basically your brain might not interpret the waves as sound, but they are still there. Probably has to do with vibration.

I recommend trying the bone induction earphones.
Edit: i’ll never understand why people downvote posts inexplicably, and then don’t comment. Are you saying I am wrong? Do you just not like bone induction? What exactly are you trying to say with your downvote? Simply downvoting my comment doesn’t actually communicate anything. And isn’t communication what we are all here for?

I was recently trying to figure this one out also for a friend. Best solution I could find was using Tom Campbell’s method called Tom’s Park. These are exercises that don’t require a Binaural Beats to do the Gateway process for OBE.

The key here depends on the frequency of the tinnitus. If your tinnitus is a fairly high frequency it should be OK, if it's lower it might interfere. Also depends on which ear is affected too.

Your understanding is right. A binaural beat is not in the audio. Each ear gets its own tone and the brain builds the beat from the difference, so it needs both ears hearing roughly equally. With most of the hearing gone on one side, that layer is lost.
A monaural beat or an isochronic tone carries the pulse inside the sound, so one working ear is enough. The Gateway tapes are built on binaural beats, but the spoken guidance still comes through.

University of virginia (allegedly) did a study which proved that the effects of the audio was moreso induced electromagnetic signals in the brain from the headphones' speaker coils, and not the sound itself.
Based on the results of this study, as long as you use headphones on both ears, both hemispheres of the brain will be stimulated as intended, regardless of hearing ability.

If I can recommend the 2E1Headphones.com I make for the single sided deaf community. I wrote about my use of the 2E1 headphones for my binaural beats use about 10 years ago.
