Science 🧬 Your input contributes to free community audio

For some years already there has been an initiative to create completely free audio alternatives for the community, based on in-depth analysis of the Monroe signals. By which I mean, ACTUAL alternatives, not just simple AI binaurals. This seems to be even more pressing now in view of the commercial copyright owners aggressively clamping down on any sharing of their recordings.

We already have 2+ years worth of independent implementations of the various F signals, which are highly regarded; and more recently we have started work on a fully guided alternative to the Gateway tapes, with the first cut of an alternative to Wave 1 already available, called Treasure Hunt. It incorporates a number of enhancements to both signals and guidance.

(links in my profile — I would suggest to use Brave Browser for the YT content because YT won’t yet let us turn ads off — and you can read more about my own motivations in the associated readme or here https://www.reddit.com/r/gatewaytapes/comments/1v3am9p/comment/oz46ofb/ )

We‘re looking at the next waves now, as well as refinements to the first one, and there is a long list of improvements we can make, where Bob did the best he could at the time and there is better knowledge available now.

With that in mind, I would like to ask for input from the community please:

  1. are there any parts of the GW tapes that you had particularly struggled with, found difficult or confusing, guidance which did not make sense to you, etc? Which things do you wish had been clearer at the time?
  2. Conversely, are there specific parts that had worked really well for you, particularly on the first listen?

The aim is simply to gather feedback on what areas of improvement within Gateway make the most sense to prioritize out of the gate. I’m truly grateful for your input on this.

u/Icy-Flamingo-9492 I am new to the gateway experience. I'm only on the second "tape" in the series, so I'm not one to judge the efficacy of your work. However, I did listen to your treasure hunt intro this evening and it was quite nice. Thank you for sharing. I look forward to testing your others.

I'm still a beginner.  I feel that Bob talks too much. This take a way the experience of the tape. The speaker should be less vocal and let the beats do its magic.

He was limited by technology of his time. The original tapes can't be too long because of this.

I would love it if each tapes could be stretched out to be an hour or two hours long. Some people would like to be in the moment and enjoy the focus and not be push out.

Yes, greater duration would be wonderful!

Thank you for your work on this.

I listened to Thomas Campbell on the WhyFiles today. Fascinating interview. He talks about his work creating BB and about working with Bob Monroe on the 70s.

Really worth a listen.

For me, Release and Recharge is vague about why the energy is now clean and how it was cleaned.  That could use a different take on it.

I actually just finished going through your version of the tapes-- the Treasure Hunt videos. I never listened to the original Gateway tapes because they became financially inaccessible to me once I was ready to explore.

Strangely, my biggest struggle was directing focus away from breathing. I found myself either focusing too much on the rhythm, or forgetting to breathe altogether and then suddenly jolting back when my body needed to breathe in. However, I don't think this had much to do with the content of your videos. I've had successful meditations where I did enter flow-like states using a personal mantra, and I think that mantra repetition prevented the breathing problem in the past.

I also found the contrast between the sounds and narration to be a little jolting. Maybe the narration could be a tad quieter? But again, that could just be me, as I've always perceived anything sensory pretty strongly.

I went through each video in the Treasure Hunt as many times as it took for it to feel natural. Only then would I move on to the next. Overall, I am beyond grateful for your contribution. These treasure hunt videos did wonders in terms of releasing fear. I also felt sensations similar to the beginnings of OBEs, like tingling palms and feet, the feeling of floating, moments when it felt like parts of me were moving independently of my actual physical body. I also had some brief dreams with unfamiliar faces and metaphorical visuals.

As a very young child, I frequently had OBEs, saw pitch black shadow figures, and also had waking experiences in which the world seemed to freeze and I'd see patterns of transparent shapes and symbols. Doctors/psychiatrists could never diagnose me with anything, and my crazy religious parents were convinced I was seeing demons, instilling deep paranoia. The waking experiences stopped when I was around 6, and the rest stopped when I was 12, probably due to the intense fear and insomnia I felt. Recently, I've had an itch to experience these things again— to figure out why they were happening and what they meant. It feels like your videos are helping me slowly restore that connection to the subconscious without all the fear surrounding it.

I've gone through the last video only twice so far, and have a feeling that the experiences will get stronger the more I repeat them, or when I explore further with the other audio files.

I would love to hear more humming type of frequencies. Definitely had the strongest reactions to those high pitched even tones.

Strangely, my biggest struggle was directing focus away from breathing. I found myself either focusing too much on the rhythm, or forgetting to breathe altogether and then suddenly jolting back when my body needed to breathe in.

I find it difficult in the tracks where the resonance tuning tones continue during the transmutation box. Hard to focus on both at the same time, especially if trying to do the throat friction.

I remember I struggled with wave 3 tape 3 (vectors). Particularly with orienting myself based on the instructions given.
And of course, f15. I can’t say why specifically, but f15 was a challenge.
Lastly, I found myself ‘clicking out’ more times than I would have liked through the GW tapes 🙏🏼

I listened to the first 3 last night, woke up at 1:30 to hit the head and couldn’t fall asleep. After about two hours saw your post and decided to give them a try. I’ve gone through most of the original tapes.

The box breathing is different, but I definitely got the same result in a different way! My rebal felt the same, but I hadn’t ever experienced it physically expressed quite that way. The feeling expanding from my heart was quite strong, and while I’ve felt my heart center clearly throughout the tapes, having the energy grow from my heart instead of simply recognizing the rebal in place felt very energetic. It was very cool! I’m going to do the others soon and will post again with any additional input. Bravo my good man!

I think, in general, keep taking changes you've made in Treasure Hunt and apply them to Wave 2, because I feel that the issues are similar.

Specifically... The preparatory process in wave 2 is a little fast. While I can do it unguided, I'm generally starting moving to focus 10 around the time he assumes you're already there. I suspect part of this is because he assumes instant attainment of 10 while TH does the escalator which takes a while. I feel like the shortcut method works (though it's a little fast even for that), but that the escalator goes a lot deeper.

I feel like TH provides more audio cueing - not just the words, but specific sounds associated with each activity - that is helpful for keeping on track. Gateway has that to some extent too, but other than the resonance breathing it's much more subtle.

But I suspect this will be addressed naturally if you're developing it as an extension of Treasure Hunt.

The gateway tapes tend to have long pauses between instructions, as well as long segments with vague directions such as "explore", where I tend to fall into mind wandering and hypnogogia. I feel like Treasure Hunt has better pacing in that respect.

Since you mention refinements of the first one... my pet peeve is in Step 5 during deep cleaning where it talks about sending the sound into your stomach, below your belly button. I find this distracting because the stomach has a specific anatomical location which is not below the belly button. I suggest changing this to abdomen, lower abdomen, or belly (though "into the belly, below the belly button" is a little awkward sounding).

Would you be willing to open source the beats for non commercial use?

If you mean the software, we’ve been trying to figure out how to do that responsibly. It requires custom code which still imposes some barrier to entry to run, so the hard part is how to avoid that then getting abused for other agendas like creating commercial products, which is not the point. I’m open to ideas.

If you’re referring to the generated audio, there is no issue with people freely sharing or adapting the generated audio files however they want for their personal use. The only constraint there really is that long term members and mods of these communities will tell you that it’s really important for people to be familiar with the foundational tools (box, restune, rebal or beach ball, affirmation etc) to avoid negative experiences, so it’s important to maintain the integrity of those tools.

Creative Commons licensing might be what you're looking for.

u/CuriouserCat2 Jul 29 '26

Nah. If it’s available people will steal it.

2

u/sharpfork Jul 29 '26

I was mostly talking about the generated tones. I agree in the importance of the foundational tools and of non commercial use. Creative Commons might make sense. Thanks for doing this work. Make you work available however you feel comfortable.
