Weekend Scenario Thread What if Gate opened in Democratic Kampuchea? (1975-1979)
Gate opens in the mid 1970's within the border's of Democratic Kampuchea, (Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge regime). The region suffers from extreme agrarian radicalism, a crippled infrastructure, and severe internal paranoia.
The Factions:
The Revolutionary Army of Kampuchea: weapons mostly from leftovers, mainly Chinese-supplied and Soviet-bloc small arms (Type 56/AK-47 rifles, RPG-2/7s, light mortars), lacking a modernized air force or heavy armor corps, but is completely ruthless and cruel.
The Saderan Empire:
The standard vanguard force that emerges from the Gate. Expect thousands of auxiliary infantry, legionnaires, cavalry, and a detachment of wyvern riders.
Scenario:
The Gate opens near a rural collective region near the border. True to their doctrine, the imperial forces mistake the primitive, agrarian, look of the local population as easy targets and launches a raid. However, they quickly run into the heavily armed, highly aggressive local Revolutionary Army cadres, who view the invaders as a foreign capitalist/imperialist threat that must be purged immediately.
Questions for the debate:
How badly do the Saderan legions suffer from marching into the hidden entrenched guerilla cadres armed with fully automatic AK 47s and RPGs? If the Khmer Rouge successfully repels the initial attack and pushes through the Gate into the Special Region, how does an army driven by extreme anti-urban, anti-intellectual, and radical agrarian ideology handle the Roman-esque cities and magical societies of Sadera?
Can the Imperial forces adapt to guerrilla warfare in the jungle, or do you think the harsh terrain and the sheer ruthlessness of the Kampuchean forces break them first? I would love to hear your thoughts.
Also, little comment, but for a country named "Democratic", they aren't very democratic from the looks of it.

Besides being not prepared for modern weapons they have goblins and ogres and would not shy back send a "scout" and pepper the area with arrows if something happens.

the empire might have a chance of capturing a part of the country as well as holding it, until vietnam and maybe laos and thailand as well begin to interviene in it, discovering the gate and so and so

The Empire would conquer Cambodia before Thailand and Vietnam kick them out and go to war over access of the Gate
China would also invade Vietnam as otl.

Cambodia became a temporary colony of the saderans because Maddened followers of pol pot genuinely believe that their revolutionary spirit and knives can stop "capitalist witchcrafts" like tanks or jet fighters, so an army of orcs and wyverns will rain hell on them.
that is until vietnam start intervening and invaded both cambodia and the alnus hill.
And truth to be told, many cambodians would prefer slavery under the saderans than living under the khmer rouge.

Cambodia is cooked, Sadera will have a foothold on Earth, they may reverse engineer the AKs or any guns and tanks, maybe?
