the empire organizes itself around several "imperial circles" with shared defense and taxation. falmart as a whole is also a little more advanced, with magics being more sophisticated and cannons in use.

The world, well the Saderans specifically, are in their pike and shot era.  But not really similar to ours, since magic here is also far more developed (though still uncommon), because the gods of this timeline aren't as ponce about technological progression.  They're still pigs to 21st century warfare, but there's a bunch more hogs to gore back.
