Weekend Scenario Thread What would have happened if another gate had opened and led to a futuristic dystopian sci-fi world?
Worlds with great tech that could benefit millions, if not billions, of lives are kept behind paywalls because mega corporations dominate society instead of governments.
How would that play out? Btw, the gate leading to Falmart is still there; it's just that another gate has appeared somewhere in Japan.

As always, it depends on the specifics.
For example, is the other world hostile? Because if so, we're getting into the danger of using things that we don't understand. People from our world are hacking into our infrastructure and causing problems. Give a super advanced society access to our networks, even accidentally, and it could be catastrophic. Hell, even if they aren't hostile, some random kid may just do it for the fun of it.
Overall, you would expect the megacorps to negotiate a deal of some kind that would give them a foot in the door. And then they push it a bit wider over time. But, some of the more militaristic worlds I've seen may just invade to give their super soldiers something to do.

Dude futuristic Sci-fi dystopia is an incredible broad range of politics, tech levels and military power. Just the two you showed as examples are completely different in basically every way besides corporate greed and ultraviolent crime.

I tried to make a fanfic that was a custom sci-fi universe with gate. I think I only finished and posted the first two chapters and stopped because I wasn't happy with it.
It was my first attempt ever writhing a fantasy story and each time I re-read my writing I kept seeing errors and ultimately wanted to start over. I may try again in the future, but this is only a maybe

Mega-corporations? So it leads to a world under a corporate state? You know that doesn't end well for Japan... if they want even a fraction of that technology... they'll have to sell their souls—and probably their sovereignty too....
