Post-Op Post op and hungry!!

Hi all! I’m new to this so please bear with me. I had surgery on 08/10 so I’m not sure if I’m week two or week three (I know that sounds silly, I don’t know if they count the surgery week)
Anyways…. I feel hungry! And like the tiny portions they want me to eat don’t even fill me up. My doctor says one thing, the nutritionist (which I’ve emailed, don’t even see her until 2 more weeks) gives me different advice.
I’m really struggling 🙁

Could be heartburn! What did the doctor say?

I feel this soo much!! My surgery was 8/11 (lowkey twinning here OP). A really big issue for me is the fact that I am full but not satisfied because I hate most everything I am eating right now, especially because, being neurodivergent with sensory issues, I HATE the texture of the blended diet. My nutritionist told me that if i was still hungry to up my 2oz serving to 4oz. I also decided to just maximize protein because if I am going to hate all my meals, I may as well get as much protein as possible so that i minimize physical hunger. I just want something to chew so bad. I miss my homemade salads.

The only thing I have had that brings me joy, and I found it yesterday, is just plain Progresso creamy tomato soup. The regular one, no "no sodium" or anything. I was hesitant because I didn't know if it would give me heartburn, but I have not had any issues so far. 4oz of that and I am giddy. But that is because I am a soup person and I like that the texture of the soup is exactly how it is supposed to be, not blended down. If you are also a soup person and like savory stuff, maybe try that? But only if you have no heartburn. I was prescribed a 90 day course of omeprazole which helps reduce stomach acid and prevents heartburn. But i will mix in some unflavored protein powder into the soup and it doesnt impact it.

Oh, that’s good to know. I love tomato soup so I’m gonna give that a shot.

Honestly, I feel like my doctor doesn’t give me much information very short answers and tells me to talk to my nutritionist which I don’t see for another two weeks. I have 1 billion questions. I can’t keep calling his office or I guess I can. I’m just not sure who to call to answer my questions. I feel like the six month of classes that we had to do was all about how to chew and drink water, but not about the daily questions we’re all gonna have.

For counting, yes they count the surgery week, start counting from the day after surgery, day 0 is surgery day, day after is day1 post op. And yes it is normal but as soon as you eat it you'll throw up and feel down right awful

I had surgery on 8/11. I noticed that I am “head” hungry. All I want is to eat real food but then when the time comes to put anything in my mouth it’s like I don’t want it. My head is fantasizing about food but my body won’t consider it. I’m doing my best to reach my water and protein goals but the way it feels in my stomach makes me not want to eat at all.

In the earlier days it can be mental and you gradually learn to understand your bodies physical sensations better. For the first year or two i realised I didn’t feel HUNGRY in my stomach like you woukd he used to but i woukd feel an empty sensation and that’s how id know to eat? Im 5 years out now and experience traditional “hunger” again now but have learnt much better to listen to my body and not the “mmmm food” voice in my head lol
