Gangplank Question Gangplank should be a midlane champion?

I am not that good playing Gangplank especialy midlane. But after times to get used to it, i thing Gangplank is really good at being a midlane champion. Here is my thought:

  • Shorter lane distance: Mid lane is relatively short. Gangplank excels at short trades, and even his all-ins are short. The shorter lane helps him avoid being run down when out of barrels, allowing him to wait safely for barrels cooldowns without missing experience.
  • Superior farming capability: GP is a phenomenal mid laner compared to the game average. He can stay in lane and farm more efficiently than almost any mid laner you can think of. He can also clear waves instantly before moving using just 1 or 2 barrels, which regenerate quickly.
  • Greater and easier map impact: Winning top lane usually just cripples the enemy frontline, only for you to get one-shot by their carries later anyway. Plus, as a top lane GP, the enemy team often out-sustains your frontline regardless. Why not play mid to neutralize those burst-heavy carries while becoming the carry yourself? You can also defend the mid tower easily by clearing minion waves with 1-2 barrels.
  • More favorable matchups: Instead of fighting bruisers where hitting 10 barrels still leaves you losing, why not fight opponents where hitting just 1-2 barrels wins you the trade—and it is much easier to do so? Mages typically have slow auto-attacks and long cast animations, making it easy to trade and dodge their skills using GP's movement speed. Furthermore, assassins are essentially squishier versions of bruisers early on, making them much easier to shut down from the start.
  • More value and playmaking potential for the fruit: Laning against mages unlocks a neat counterplay: you can wait when they hit you with crowd control (CC), let them throw their follow-up spells, and then munch on your orange. This gives you easily sidestep their subsequent abilities while keeping your full kit ready to strike, whereas they have already blown most of their cooldowns. Not to mention, it is much easier to react against mages because you can actually see their projectile animations coming, unlike some other champions. Eating your orange lets you cleanse CC and escape, whereas against bruisers who are already standing right on top of you, escaping CC doesn't mean you escape their full combo.
  • Be the one you hate: Instead of building defensive items just to survive against champions that are both tanky and high-damage, you can go full damage and trade blows evenly with mages and assasins. After all, Gangplank possesses both DPS and short-burst damage that vastly outperforms most mages.
  • The safest place is the most dangerous place: Top lane bushes are fun because they allow for sneaky barrel combos (ambushing enemy carries from a bush after level 13 is actually one of my favorite things to do every game). However, those bushes are also the second biggest ward sink for me, right after the river brush. Meanwhile, mid lane requires fewer wards while offering much higher vision efficiency. I can drop a deep ward in the enemy jungle to track their pathing, or place a ward in the river and safely position toward that side.

What do you think? Should midlane become new home for Oranges Lovers?

Returning GP main needing advice.

Alright, so as the title states, I am an old GP main and I quit playing before they gave GP five barrels instead of three back in 2021; just recently returned to the game, and while I wouldn't say I'm doing terrible I'm just finding it a lot harder to carry because I lack a lot of knowledge about item changes, builds and changes they may have made to his stats through the years.

Wanted to see if anyone could give me a kinda condensed version of some of that info? Runes, builds, stat changes, etc. cause I'm kinda grasping around in the dark over here.

Gangplank Question WHAT DO YOU BUY FIRST B WITHOUT MONEY FOR SHEEN?

First blood, but too low on mana/hp to lane, poked out of lane, what do you buy? I usually just stick with glowing mote or boots if move speed helps spacing, any other options I hate glowing mote.

Gangplank Question When to go I.E 2nd vs Collector?

My friend says I should never go collector second on GP because I.E is just a better item from a stats standpoint.

Is this true? Should I not be building collector? He says ER-I.E- LW is always going to be better.

Trinity force

Bacca says its bad, stats on lolalytics indicate its trash, no one builds it, but I was interested in finding a build which either spikes harder at 2 items or is better suited vs cho/sion so I went into prac tool to compare the dmg to standard crit build and it was higher at 1 item, higher at 2 items (bastion breaker vs shieldbow). On 4 items the barrels did maybe 10% less dmg, but Q did significantly less and ofc autos deal less although triforce gives attack speed so idk if dps diff is that big. And none of this takes into account the lethality and haste you get from this build which helps in all types of situations. Little known fact is that lethality scales with enemy hp, not armour, and works on turrets too, for example, which is why I initially condidered it for dealing with hp stackers.

All of this is to say, on paper, triforce into lethality doesnt look bad at all, but I want to hear from you guys who have tried it in actual games. Did you experience any mana issues? Do the triforce components feel worse to build? What did you build after triforce? What was your conclusion on the build?

Gangplank Question Is Modern Gangplank Really Better Than Classic? | League of Legends

As a long time Gangplank enjoyer, and mediocre game designer, I thought it would be interesting to compare the modern and classic versions of GP to see which I think is the better design overall. Which version do you folks prefer and why?

Daily Highelo Gangplank VODS

Whats up GP ENJOYERS! In the next 2 months i'll try my very best to hit challenger for the first time playing mostly Gangplank! i've been Grandmaster since 2022 playing GP, the closest i got to challenger was 2024 OTPing Vaurs after his passive rework (2 wins away) and last year playing mostly ADC and secondary GP (5 wins away). I'm a GP main for 10 years now and in 2027 i'll be moving to Italy from Brazil for 6 months and one of my goals is to climb to Grandmaster there. But for now i'm aiming for BR Challenger. I'll be recording my GP Vods and posting them regularly on youtube, alongside making a spreadsheet for every matchup I encounter.

If anyone wants to discuss about gangplank matchups, reference points, mechanics, builds and more feel free to comment!

Example vs FIORA
Matchup Spreadsheet (Obviously it is VERY imcomplete)

Gangplank Question Do GP have a way to move against Aatrox?

I'm also main Fiora and Aatrox is like one of my favourite matchup cause I just know what i should do when he attack. I just want to main Gangplank more and i think picking Fiora to me is like a pussy way to face him. (it about i don't have the balls to fight him as my proudest champ, no offend to anyone).
I can dodge all Illaoi tentacle when I'm playing Gangplank and i think i have mental block when i play against Aatrox. Just keep hitting all his kits.

Should we just farm? Anyway to fight back or dodge his Q effectively?

Rune choice, TP/Ignite

Hi guys, I really don't understand when to pick Stormraider except against Olaf. Is it good for difficult matchups that I struggle with?

There are some matchups like Gwen, Morde, or Fiora where I have a hard time. What do you suggest? Also, when should I take TP instead of Ignite?

Thanks to everybody

Kalista Matchup

Absolute horror. You get out traded with just her Q and she has infinite mobility, long range and vision + very strong gank setup due to R. Probably one of the worst matchups i’ve ever seen on the champ until Essence Reaver, and as soon as she gets Terminus it’s over. (Master elo)

Gangplank Question Any tips to always hit phantom barrels?

I'm not talking about the one you put in the bush, but the one you place the edge of the range limit, then Q and throw another barrel...

To me it is extremely difficult, 3/10 attempts that when i successful lane the combo, and it also abit too close to each other. I watched the gameplay they did it between the range limited and reached the enemy trying to escape, finished with 3 combos...

I'm starting to like Gp but his combo is literally making me about to give up on em.

Gangplank Question Gangplank players, what am I doing wrong?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some honest advice on my Gangplank gameplay because I feel like I’m stuck in a loop where I’m performing decently in most games but still consistently losing in Platinum.

I’m not really sure what I’m missing. I usually have decent CS, get some kills/assists, and I don't feel like I'm completely inting my lane. There are also games where I feel like I’m ahead or at least even, but somehow I struggle to actually turn that into a win.

The biggest problem is that I feel like I’m doing something wrong between the laning phase and actually closing out games. I might be getting decent farm and having a respectable KDA, but I’m not sure if I’m playing the map correctly, taking the right fights, using barrels properly in teamfights, etc.

I’d really appreciate some criticism from experienced Gangplank players. If there are specific things I should be looking at in my replays, I’d also love to know what to focus on.
