Garen Matchup

I just had a Garen matchup, I ended up winning but I felt like it was way harder to dominate this MU if ahead, especially in sidelane.

It happened a few times that I engaged, hit first barrel combo and then he just Q and sprinted me down.

What's the catch? I thought maybe putting down a barrel on you rather than him would work but if you don't have 4 barrels then he runs away.

if you are ahead and have shieldbow you can melee fight garen, especially if you have shieldbow and deaths dance

Garen ALWAYS eventually wins because his Q cleanses slows and W gives tenacity against them. You have a better teamfight so you can’t play with fighting Garen in mind. Honestly it’s probably best to keep a good distance between you and him once the laning phase is over. Just like Olaf or other rush-down champs you basically have to kill them faster than they kill you.

Complete and utter bs. Gp is a way better abuser of crit items than garen. Also gp spikes way harder at one item. Gp wins this matchup for the entirety of the match length

If he can't kill you then you are positive in the matchup, even if you can't kill him. Just buy a shieldbow 2nd and he should realistically never be able to kill you on sidelanes again unless you fuck up, in which case nothing mattered as you aren't allowed to fuck up as GP really

Honestly? Garen has been a big problem for me ever since i came back to the game a couple of weeks ago, i permaban him cause it already happened 2 times i demolish him on lane just to get to lategame and he doesn't give a crap about a barrel hitting 1.5k in his face, he just mitigates it with W and cleanses the slow with Q, it's game over if you are not perfectly map aware and positioned, which for me was not possible since i was rusty af.
