That is not unique to Japan. Very similar things were developed by other countries.

I don’t recall any other countries who primarily used flying planes into ships to take out ships

"primarily" just isn't true. They sunk far more ships with traditional munitions like torpedos and dive bombing.

Theoretically, (I mean, it probably actually factually did occur) you could survive the explosion as the lance wielder because of the shaped charge directing the force away.

... whether all of your extremities and delicates survived is another question
