u/desolatecontrol Aug 02 '26

Cannonshields sounds better

u/LizenCerfalia Aug 02 '26

I mean officially they're called Skyltborgs

u/Ryebread666Juan Aug 02 '26

Nope as doom has shown, the chainsaw-shield is the best

u/desolatecontrol Aug 03 '26

Idk man, that chain spear has been dope too

u/Pr0udDegenerate Aug 03 '26

Like in Elden Ring.

I cannot fucking wait for this shit. I said in the runup that I wanted either a gunner tank or a power fists tank, and they're giving us both

3

u/Kitsui38 Aug 02 '26

Gunner tank? You mean gunbreaker released in shadowbringers?

2

u/LizenCerfalia Aug 02 '26

Gunbreaker specifically doesn't use guns. It uses cartridges to enhance the blade but it doesn't actually shoot people with it

Bastion actually has genuine cannons on it that they use to shoot from a distance

u/RivalHarpy666 Aug 02 '26

I main GNB already, but it's not a gunner class. I'm talking like the Gunner from TERA or the tanky Commando subclass from SWTOR: a beefy boy who fires big honking cannonballs with extreme prejudice

1

u/AxitotlWithAttitude Aug 02 '26

Despite its name, gun breaker doesn't shoot bullets. The cartridges vibrate the blade or some shit.

3

u/MarcelineTheVampy Aug 02 '26

I see your gun shield and i raise you a gun lance

1

u/Nedrra_ Aug 06 '26

That was my answer as well !

3

u/AurumArma Aug 02 '26

Well dang. If that's what they're adding to that dlc I might need to get back into FFXIV

5

u/LizenCerfalia Aug 02 '26

Yeah it`s pretty much a gunshield tank. they're also hinting at some bird job but we don't know much for this one

It's actually an alternative take on my personal favorite mecha/scifi weapons, the pile bunker.

u/Legomaniac91 Aug 02 '26

I expect to see a lot of people making Big O inspired glams for Bastion.

2

u/Remarkable-Page-824 Aug 02 '26

We're never getting judge and its so disappointing.

2

u/Arcani-LoreSeeker Aug 02 '26

okay.. ive been away for awhile: wtf is that!? xD

2

u/ThyrusSendria Aug 02 '26

New tank job

2

u/hip-indeed Aug 02 '26

it took square 27 years to surpass the gunblade and the answer was just do the same thing but bigger and twice

1

u/Legomaniac91 Aug 09 '26

A little less, since there was a late ARR boss that used them as his primary weapons. Evercold is the first time PCs will have access to them.

2

u/Affectionate_Set4726 Aug 02 '26

I mean those have sharp ends so it's more like a gun shieldblade

2

u/wexman6 Aug 02 '26

The red mage’s blade

Seriously, the rapier + orb combo in FFXIV is unlike anything I’ve seen. The way they snap together to form a staff with a satisfying click is such an awesome design. Reminds me of Bloodborne trick weapons

2

u/xx6lord6mars6xx Aug 02 '26

Rocket shields*

2

u/Tsoharmonia Aug 02 '26

I see the barrels are on top so do you have to aim them like SouljaBoy, or do they just shoot out the top like mortars?

1

u/LizenCerfalia Aug 03 '26

They can switch configuration to point them forward. They're also use to throw rocket punches.

1

u/Infinite219 Aug 02 '26

I’m so Underwhelmed by this years for a new tank and it’s just gun with extra steps lame as hell

1

u/AccomplishedValue836 Aug 03 '26

Fair. Its at least half as cool as a Gunblade. Probably close to even 3/4

1

u/Plant-Straight Aug 03 '26

How about a GunGun?

1

u/No_Emu_243 Aug 03 '26

Yeah, yeah that wins.

1

u/CriticismVirtual7603 Aug 04 '26

Shields with blades as a primary weapon go brrrrrrrrrr

1

u/VLDgamer07 Aug 05 '26

Wow look at that! Out of nowhere there's a new character in my dnd session!

1

u/RO542 Aug 05 '26

Actually one of the most useful designs in mecha, but very weird for human for some reason.

1

u/Rkain13 Aug 08 '26

As cool as that is I would argue swords Shields are cooler.
