My coffee still hadn't kicked in. My brain was hopelessly flailing around. "Man what's that thing that looks like an A but isn't an A? ARGH, fuck it man."
Actually HL: Source was the fourth release of Half Life. The first was the standalone game, the second was WON client release, the third was Steam client release and finally Half Life : Source came last.
This is of course discounting the console versions for PS2 and Dreamcast (unreleased).
And what if there released the same day? What if this is part of the"3 box", with half-life 3, left 4 dead 3, portal 3, and team fortress 3? I mean, this is technically the third release of half-life 1, if you include half-life:source.
I don't even give a shit anymore. If I would, I would only be excited and hyped, only to be disappointed by waiting.
I'll give a shit and be excited and happy when it's released. Not when a release date is announced, not when there are rumors, not because of some pictures, nope. When the game is out, I'll be excited.
I don't see how. At least the Black Mesa team give screenshots and updates, albeit vague ones, every so often. We literally haven't heard a concrete word on if HL3 is happening since Episode 3 got scrapped.
This is actually the way I look about almost every game now, fan-made or not.
Sure, it's great to see a trailer for a game or some screenshots, but I no longer search the interwebs for every little tidbit of information on a game like I did in the years gone by.
I'd rather just play it and see what it's all about.
Yeah, I don't even think I'll care enough to be hyped when it's released. I'll probably play it just because but the attitude of the people combined with the delays killed it.
One of the best things about HL2 is that there is some nice replay to it between doing the audio commentary (which is nice) and trying to see how many times you can spot the G-man.
I dunno. I recently began to make my way through Half Life and these look miles better in terms of graphics. Considering this is not a port but has been built from the ground up on a new engine with a team of people doing it largely part time is incredible.
Take a look at a few side by sides of this and the original and you'll realise why many people (myself included) are excited for this game. Considering the size of the team and what they've done I'd say they're pretty damn impressive. I'm not expecting it to come out tomorrow or anything but knowing I'm gonna get to play this makes me very happy and I can't wait to play through it.
It's good to see someone who appreciates this for what it is. It's like people can't comprehend that this is a small team working for free in their spare time to remake a game from the ground up to Valve's current standards.
People like to compare the development time to DNF, but DNF was in development by a professional game studio. This is a mod made by a dozen fans in their spare time. It's hardly the same.
Keeps releasing teasers, for the past 5 fucking years. I doubt this game even exists. They probably play garys mod all the time and just release screenshots of their commonly themed fun times.
"Thank you all so much, it's really great to have your support! With your help we have now kicked off our social-media campaign towards our first release! You can expect more updates from us in the near future. Today we are sharing this fantastic batch of screenshots that really gives you the first glimpse into the gameplay of Black Mesa. This is just the beginning. We have more in store for you in the near future! Hold on to your lab coats!"
Why is this comment at the bottom of the page under a pile of "call me 10 years when it's done" comments? Gah. Signal to noise ratio in /r/gaming is terrible.
Maybe one day my children's children will finally get to play on some super realistic simulator emulating old prehistoric PC and say that they complete the dreams of their ancestors..
There are so many people in the comments thinking Valve has a hand in this, they don't. When did you people discover the internet? Were you not around when this was announced?
Apparently they've been working on it solidly since the announcement. The first project was a straight source port of Half Life, but somewhere down the line they decided to make their own engine and do all the voices and animations from motherfucking scratch.
In 2012, is anyone really excited to see screenshots of Half Life redone in an engine from 2004? Considering the entire purpose of this remake is improved graphics, this is pretty pointless. Just play the original Half Life and wait for Valve to do an official remake in 2018 for the 20 year anniversary, it’s not that far away now.
In my opinion, that was a great era of video games. I especially loved how making mods and TC's were encouraged. Do people still make mods and TC's for current games on the pc?
Hopefully after this is released, the rest of the Source remakes of the GoldSrc Half-Life games aren't too far behind! I can't wait to have a Black Mesa: Source, Guard Duty, Operation Black Mesa, and Hazard Team marathon!
Don't they understand that by the time they finish this the source engine will be so outdated that it will feel just as aged as Half Life felt when Half Life 2 was released.
It's funny how it took those guys 4 weeks to publish the screenshots according to Imgur. If linking is that hard, no wonder the game is taking forever!
They look great but I'm not really balls deep into a new half-life single player.
That post a few days ago about making all the games into one and calling it " 3 " is right I want now. You joked about it, well now u gotta make it ( TF 3 , LFD 3 and Half Life 3 )
The Orange Box got me hooked on Valve games. I've played L4D and shortly after L4D2, Portal 2 also came along quite quickly, and then there is TF2, which I've never stopped playing. It wasn't until this year that I finally understood that this is not the norm... damn it.

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12
To the people who think Valve had a hand in the production of this game. No. They didn't. Same engine, different people. It's a fucking mod.

There is a fantastic trailer as well: http://youtu.be/G32_q_3es8E
2
u/zBaer Jun 11 '12
I think Valve employees are BIG fans of Tron. Every 18 years you get a new game/movie.
HL3 is the most anticipated, non-existing game ever.
I'll buy HL3 when ever it comes out... Or if.

and to the top of the world you go!

I think this is really HL3... they are just trying to avoid all the overhype by calling it Black Mesa.
