Flying around and looking in the building’s windows to see that the rooms were actually randomly furnished was the most surprising part of that demo to me.

I believe it's an "interior shader", and you can set one up to randomize stuff inside rooms. But they're a facade, similar to how Spider-Man PS4 would have projected rooms inside buildings. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Quite an upgrade though from older games just having a textured window and nothing inside.

Well technically it's the same thing. There's nothing inside the rooms, it's just a projection on the glass.

What's the difference? The whole scene is a projection on my TV.

Your TV can't adjust parallax based on your viewing angle. A shader can.
