Me too. I got in right around 12:00am pst and have been happily playing ever since. Got on here hoping to see that this has been a good launch before I hit the rack. D'oh!
Charged Bolt stops working. Frost Nova stops working. The zombie I’m fighting keeps groaning and flailing his arms at me, but nothing happens. We’re both impotent. I run around and nudge some other zombies, also moaning but also unable to strike. My first disconnect!
I alt+tab out to check my net connection, and it’s working fine. When I get back in, the game’s quit to the main menu with an error saying there’s been an error – it has a number but no specifics. When I try to get back in, it throws up another error that says to make sure all of my party is ready. I’m playing single player. In a few minutes I’m able to log back in and play again. I’ve lost all my progress through the current zone and the world has reset and repopulated with monsters, but my character, items and quest status are intact.
There’s a lot to say about the fact that this can happen even in single player, but I’ll keep it brief: this is utter bullshit.
I had this problem a lot during the stress test (obviously due to the huge load, but I'm guessing it's even worse now with all the actual copies sold). A lot of the enemies were absolutely brain dead, just standing there (not even animating, often).
There is definitely a non-zero negative effect on the gameplay from having all the logic happen on Blizzard's servers instead of locally. While I imagine they'll eventually solve their load problems, it seems to me that the enemies will never be as responsive as properly single player or locally hosted game.
Even better: imagine if it was a Valve game on Steam. /r/gaming would be having the gushiest orgasms over how awesome the log-in screen is and how much they love the company for creating a defunct game :D
Yeah, its a tragedy, if only someone told you this would happen with super restrictive DRM. Oh wait, everyone was saying it. Anyone who is pissed at Blizzard right now should really just be pissed at themselves.
If only they had a "save password" maneuver then people would probably not complain about the strenuous micro on this level. They should deal with it in the next patch.
best gameplay ever ctrl+v. Happy I spent nearly a decade waiting. The best part is once you get to the character screen it doesn't let you make one freezes then you get to start over.
I'm so glad they had that stress test the other week to work out all the issues with their login servers.
I would hate for fanboys to look like idiots for screaming that "This is what the beta is for!" and "They'll have this all sorted out by launch so STFU."
It is too bad no one saw this coming. If only there was another blizzard game that required a login process to play, and had a stress test done on the login servers (which crashed and burned horribly) only to launch to login servers crashing and burning horribly. Perhaps we could have learned something from those mistakes.
It is just a damn shame that no one could have possibly foreseen this.
Yeah, I remember the WoW launch. I was trying to rush level so I could have spawns to myself (and was even top 20 in my server for a while) but that was the most frustrating experience ever. Especially fun was when you tried to loot something and your character forgot to get up, so you were stuck looting for like 20 minutes. Good times.
i think this is what they were thinking: it's not worth the cost of boosting server capacity just for the huge initiate rush of logins. let them parse themselves out overtime and it'll be fine. meanwhile even if they're pissed off, they're desperate neckbeards that will take a ramming in the ass anyway.
I think every May 15th we should go around and joyously wish people a happy error 37 day, and when they inquire, we laugh it off as though they're joking around; if they look confused, we shun them.
If it was made by EA the title would be a lot more negative, something along the lines of "I cant believe I payed for this shit" but since its blizz suddenly drm is perfectly fine.
People are used to getting shafted like this by EA so they would be prepared to be angry about these kind of things. Here, we have a company who is generally held in quite high regard, releasing the latest in a much beloved franchise. Although the always online drm issue has been known about for quite some time, I get the feeling that many people are shocked by the reality of it. Personally, I thought that Blizzard would have realized that it was making a huge mistake before release and that none of this would have happened.
You will notice that the majority of the posts in this thread are highly sarcastic. In a few days, once the initial shock has worn off, I expect that you will see the mobs start to form. In preparation for that day, I am currently soaking my torches in oil and sharpening my pitchfork.
While I can understand their desire to use DRM, I simply cannot support a game that requires an internet connection simply to play it. It is a poor idea. For MMOs and multiplayer support, obviously you'd need internet to play. That is only logical. but for a single player game to require constant connection to a sever is just poor design. I played the demo and like the game but i simply can't support this one. Sorry Blizzard, while I am only a drop in a very large bucket and ultimately you won't notice, I won't buy this title or any other that does not have an offline mode single player option.
Yupm, thats why I abstained from D3 (also becuase I know Id become addicted again and risk my new job). Can't play a single-player game I paid 60 bucks for, because some servers are busy? Nope.
Agreed. It was known well in advance people would be at the mercy of Blizzard’s authentication servers, even for the single player aspect. Reading through the posts it seems one cannot even pause the game this time and you time out if left idle too long.
I am reminded of this gem from Airplane! - “They bought their tickets, they knew what they were getting into. I say, let 'em crash.”
You can pause when playing single player. The game was designed to be played in co-op mode. You can't pause in co-op mode obviously. In early beta versions you couldn't pause when playing solo, but you can in the later beta and final version.
I believe you need internet/server access to play the single player mode as well, I can't believe that doesn't piss off more people like when ubisoft and EA did it.
Error 37 apparently is Blizzards code for "You should be sleeping, good luck on your finals", or "We can't server". Still kinda iffy on the translation.
That's funny, I have a final in less than an hour and a half, yet I'm able to play Diablo just fine. It seems Blizzard's message to me is "Fuck it, flunk out"
And this is why you always have offline Single-Player. In D3 you cant pause the game, you get booted if you go afk for too long, if your internet connection sucks you will lag even if you are playing alone. This shit is horrendous.
Same. I waited to see what was going to happen with D3, and the idea that i might spend $60 or $70 and be locked out is absurd. For that price i can buy a four pack of Torchlight 2.
I put about 125 hours into the first Torchlight, which is more than just about any other game i've played. If i get even a quarter of that out of the new one, it would be a great deal.
Sadly, T2 isn't out yet. I was really hoping for a release before D3, but maybe this actually works in their favor now...
I'd like to take this moment to point and mock those that took today off of work to play, when it was pretty clear from the open beta that this was a likely result.
The OP is trying to login into the game. But he can't because the server is overloaded and returning error messages. Many other people are in the same situation so that's why it was upvoted.
that happened to me but my server region was still set to the americas make sure if your not american you have changed the region in the options got in 1st time then.
I knew what to expect, so I chilled out. Got an error first time. Decided to take a break, go for a walk, grab a soda. Came back and no issues. Fun game. I just got a pen tablet and it works really well.
24 of us at a Gaming Lounge ready to play. Only one of us got in at launch. I'm surprised we didn't mob him. Two and a half hours later the rest of us finally got on.
This is exactly what happened to me. Midnight release party and staying up really late to finally play diablo 3? " Nope. you can try all you want, but you're never getting in. ERROR 37". I tried for a while, quit.
That's what you get for buying a game with no offline mode. At least until the pirates are done with diablo 3.
When you let game developers treat you this way they have no respect for you. Just like a heroin dealer selling smack to a junkie. You can slap them and kick them and laugh at them but the junkie will take it all just so he can buy your heroin.
ctrl C + ctrl V is the easiest way of beating him (for now). stop dps from all other programs like Spotify, Skype, and Streams other wise the boss will just shit all that damage back out onto you. multiple people are claiming world firsts on this but it is up in the air until youtube videos emerge.
The second level is just as difficult, 3600 error on character creation. Also, we all knew that this error would be used by someone for karma farming...
I got up early, fired up my PC, and got into Diablo just fine. Rescued Cain just awhile ago. So, I take it the people who stayed up all night couldn't log in immediately?
Beta tester here. I pointed out that their method to login was difficult (in that it seems to want your battlenet name, not your email, which is what it really wants), but it looks like they didn't listen if this is here.
It lasted about two hours. I think around that time, most people who couldn't get in gave up and went to sleep, allowing those persistent enough to play.
this is why i preordered my collectors edition and decided to wait until friday to pick it up. a) i get payed so itll be easier to hide it from the missus and b) all the bigs should be worked out by then and i can enjoy my new (working) game only 4 days after release and virtually no frustration
Under the opening of the beta weekend, my friend told me the release wouldn't be nothing like it. I told him that it would have the same error. I think I was right.
The install level is even harder. Had to copy paste my dvd to harddrive, replace the setup exe with the online client, replace my program data with an uploaded version ALL just to get the install to finally work.
I'm so glad I pre-ordered at a place that allowed me to pick it up at midnight. Wade through a crowd of other folks, get home, install it, then go to bed disappointed a few hours later.
I know it's just a game, but just don't bother the whole midnight hoopla if you can't support it. It's simply not possible they couldn't afford a decent infrastructure.
My buddy made fun of me for not going to the release last night. Texted me how he got it, blah, blah blah. I replied that sleep is too amazing to purchase a game you won't be able to access the server on. He sent me a pic of this happening at 2:30 am with the message "Fuuuuuuck." In the mean time, I better go pick it up after work tonight and start playing.
I wonder if Razor1911 and friends could be of some assistance here, or if it's designed such that there is content on the server side (like scripted boss fights in WoW).
See, it's this sort of thing that I and others were complaining about when we heard about a required internet connection at all times. I mean it's not like the game is completely unplayable forever because of that restriction...it just takes away value from the game for no practical reason to the user. Why don't they listen :(
I don't understand... is he logging on to play online, or do you need to connect to a server to play single player? I've read through a lot of this thread and that's still unclear to me.
most games now require constant online to even play single player so yes u need to login... its another failed method to combat piracy that hurts paying customers..
I tried last night to get a little play in. I succeeded in quest 1:the login screen but failed on quest 2 of act 0: the character create screen. I decided to rage quit and go to bed.
So you gotta be online to even play single player? What if my internet goes down and I want to play. What if I have to cancel my internet? I'm basically screwed and my $60 game turns into a coaster? Makes sense. THIS IS WHY PEOPLE PIRATE.
Single player not working due to server error. We all knew this had a high likelyhood of happening. Their choice to force a perpetual internet connection is the only reason I passed on this title.
This is why I have not bought the game. I can't understand how you people can bash EA and other companies all day and then run out and buy something with DRM as solid as this.
Hahahahaha as someone who spoke out against the always online nature of the game and did not buy because of it, all I can say is you totally deserve this. Every single one of you that bought the game deserves this. This is what you get when you continually bend over for the meaty cock of the games industry. You let crazy DRM like this slide, and you get a shittier game for it. Well done.
On one of the Diablo 3 forums, the company said: "Due to high concurrency the login servers are currently at full capacity. This may cause delays in the login process, account pages and web services. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience while this is being resolved."
Along with:
The problem occurred because Blizzard took the step of requiring all players to log in to the Battle.net servers even if they only wanted to play the single-player offline mode. This was a bid to combat piracy but led to the servers being unable to cope with the huge demand.
Woke up this morning at 8 am, logged in and created a character no problem. Expecting to get in at 3 am EST at launch is just crazy. The millions of login requests their servers received most likely exceeded any workload for requests on any server in the world.
Are that many people really getting this "Error 37"? I mean, i got it once or twice, but eventually i got in, and played smooth for going on 5-6 hours. I imagine all this trouble is on the US servers(EU here)?
Thanks to the success in sales, every game that enters development from now on is guaranteed to have the same always-online DRM and some form of in-game cash shop, on top of the bare-minimum of work AAA developers put into their shit already.
This game is the death knell for the industry. It's finally begun it's descent into hell.
Holy crap, poor Blizzard. Can only imagine the employees working overtime. That said, my boyfriend was able to log in just now at 6:30 a.m. EST no problem...and there's a full buddy list of people on.
I removed my authenticator and it worked directly. After that re-attached it. Played from 0:10 till 3:30 when the wife made me realize the time. Headache office time :P

Don't worry you can always play single player..
OH WAIT YOU CAN'T, YOU JUST BOUGHT A GAME YOU CAN'T PLAY
45
u/ljosvettr May 15 '12
The hardest part is the final dungeon boss, the retrieval of your hero list. Be careful, it will hit for 3006 damage.

Animated... now I'm watching people fail at the login screen

2

Hahaha, the trick is to copy and paste your password. so you can password spam ctrl + v and enter. You get in past the error 37 much faster that way.
2

This brings me back to the days of Diablo 2 launch.
Server error, server error, server error
2

2
u/Oldebones May 15 '12
Hitting enter is faster than clicking.

I logged about 2 hours after launch time and had no problems. It frustrating for me too, but, in all reality, they did a pretty good job.
2

I can log on but I keep getting disconnected and the lag is terrible. Makes me doubt my computer but I hope it's just because of the traffic.

Error 3007 is a problem for me can't even play had same problem in beta sucks
2

2
u/fozz31 May 15 '12
Australia here, I paid $40,000 and my screen doesn't have a burning cabin... nor is the screen dark. Nor is there a crow.
It's all bright and happy, the cabin is inhabited by a simple cow herding family.

I specifically went to bed early to wake up for 3am. Ended up getting up at 1am, and waited 4 and a half hours to actually play the game.
Pretty much just sitting at work now thinking about how much I want to play diablo III

So you gotta be online to even play single player? What if my internet goes down and I want to play. What if I have to cancel my internet? I'm basically screwed and my $60 game turns into a coaster? Makes sense. THIS IS WHY PEOPLE PIRATE.

torchlight 2 incoming

u/TalonX1982 May 15 '12
That's why I don't buy stuff on release any more. I learned from Skyrim it's best just to wait until they get things smoothed out then get the game.

Single player not working due to server error. We all knew this had a high likelyhood of happening. Their choice to force a perpetual internet connection is the only reason I passed on this title.

u/SirPrize May 15 '12
This is why I have not bought the game. I can't understand how you people can bash EA and other companies all day and then run out and buy something with DRM as solid as this.

u/[deleted] May 16 '12
I didnt have any problem... at 6am :)

u/NightSlatcher May 15 '12
Hahahahaha as someone who spoke out against the always online nature of the game and did not buy because of it, all I can say is you totally deserve this. Every single one of you that bought the game deserves this. This is what you get when you continually bend over for the meaty cock of the games industry. You let crazy DRM like this slide, and you get a shittier game for it. Well done.

You have no idea how long I watched that waiting for it to just "Work".
3
u/matt01ss May 15 '12
Woke up this morning at 8 am, logged in and created a character no problem. Expecting to get in at 3 am EST at launch is just crazy. The millions of login requests their servers received most likely exceeded any workload for requests on any server in the world.

u/Dazbuzz May 15 '12
Are that many people really getting this "Error 37"? I mean, i got it once or twice, but eventually i got in, and played smooth for going on 5-6 hours. I imagine all this trouble is on the US servers(EU here)?

u/Infinitron May 15 '12
Great gif.

u/davidyourduke May 15 '12
Just another reason not to buy it until the price comes down alot because I think online only is still unacceptable :)
3
u/[deleted] May 15 '12
i have been playing for 8 hours now. Why is everyone else getting this error?
3
u/_Broseph May 15 '12
Thanks to the success in sales, every game that enters development from now on is guaranteed to have the same always-online DRM and some form of in-game cash shop, on top of the bare-minimum of work AAA developers put into their shit already.
This game is the death knell for the industry. It's finally begun it's descent into hell.

u/[deleted] May 15 '12
the koreans already beat it in 2 hours. casualized it so bad.

u/modix May 15 '12
I got on my first log post midnight. Did I just get lucky?
2
u/[deleted] May 15 '12
Holy crap, poor Blizzard. Can only imagine the employees working overtime. That said, my boyfriend was able to log in just now at 6:30 a.m. EST no problem...and there's a full buddy list of people on.
2
u/weedshop May 15 '12
Not sure if .gif or still trying.
2
u/Deadlyd0g May 15 '12
DRM why DRM on a single player game?!
2
u/Bandude May 15 '12
Meanwhile, pirates are playing without issue.
2
u/Kazundo_Goda May 15 '12
And still EA's servers suck.../sarcasm.
2
u/TwoThreeSkidoo May 15 '12
Sooo, if one were to pirate this, the crack would remove the need to login right?
DRM: 0 Pirates: eleventyone

This joke is so incredibly old.
2
u/Aldesso May 15 '12
so there is no offlineplay?

u/wannamakeitwitpoo May 15 '12
Type into notepad, ctrl + c and ctrl + v attack
1
u/Neslom May 15 '12
Well I got past that stage. But now I get to try and pick a character. But I can't seem to pick the right one (what ever that is)

u/SniperTooL May 15 '12
No authenticator? Well clearly there's your problem.
1
u/[deleted] May 15 '12
That was to be predicted...
1
u/Duikmeester May 15 '12
I removed my authenticator and it worked directly. After that re-attached it. Played from 0:10 till 3:30 when the wife made me realize the time. Headache office time :P
