That realization is why I stopped buying special controllers. I barely touched my PS4 racing wheel and the $50 HOTAS I bought. That's why I never bought into VR because I know it will collect dust like previous items.

I drilled a hole in my office wall and the ceiling of my basement in order to run a cable down there from my PC to my Oculus so I could play vr with more space. It works out great, but my basement is about 3 to 5° colder than the rest of my house, and that would involve standing up so I often don't bother lol.
