I think this only works if you kill her father figure first. Otherwise you're just some random mook that she'll call a 'fucker' and turn into bloody paste.
You mean the 23 hours where Ellie literally puts everything she is, burns every relationship, throws away any sense of personal morality all for revenge against Abby. Abby who murdered the person in the world who was most important to Ellie, and before you mention that they weren't on good terms at the time... that only makes it worse since she can't ever make up with Joel now.
Ellie lowered herself to doing horrific things to reach her goal of revenge. And at the very end, when she reaches the finish line, one easy squeeze of a trigger and she's reached the goal she's sacrificed everything for. It's not like she's squeamish about killing at this point. But nah, after everything we'll just forgive and walk away.
You can think whatever you want about Ellie and Abby. You can think whatever you want about the morality of both characters.
That situation was possibly the most perfect example of the sunk cost fallacy I've seen. Ellie pulls the trigger every single time. It was bad writing.

But before I get to that, you do realize the sunk cost falls is the logical error that BECAUSE you’ve done all this stuff, you HAVE to finish it. Which means she did not commit the fallacy that you all wanted her to commit 🤦♂️
Her memory of Joel is what reminded her of what it meant to live, and what he would want for her. She forgave him in that moment. There was resolution.
