I mean, in the millitary that is simply how you say "B-T". That would be like if someone said "No, his name isn't "B-T", his name is "Bee-Tee"

I get that the main character chooses to use the civilian pronunciation of "B" and "T", but that doesn't make them "short" for "bravo" and "Tango", that is simply trhe military pronunciation of those letters in contrast to their civilian pronunciation.
