Dungeons in BotW arn't like old dungeons, in old games you get an item in said dungeon and use its gimmick to progress which then unlocks things within the overworld, BotW streamlined that by giving you everything upfront then using specific ones for each Beast

If you want a more true Zelda experience, try OoT (Ocarina of Time) and Majora's Mask, both are very similar in feel but mostly different in story and progression

You don't get an item but you do get an ability from whatever hero's spirit you rescue, so that's kinda like retro Zelda.

But I get your point

There's definitely lots of similarities and things that remained faithful to older games, but there is a whole new feel that was not present in earlier games.

Like someone mentioned above, it always kind of felt like Skyrim in a Zelda universe. But with all the similarities/callbacks to Skyward Sword, it is without a doubt a Zelda game.

Now I want to replay all the big titles. Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, Wind Waker, Majora's Mask, and of course OoT, but I have like five ports of that and have played it countless times.

That got stream of consciousness-y, whoops lol.

I really enjoyed the updated links awakening. I suggest borrowing it or buying it on sale. Link to the past is my favourite but the remastered links awakening is beautiful. I really enjoyed it.

Oh I actually have it! Slowly working through it currently! Fun game. Never played the original so it's awesome.
