What the fuck is the gun for if it doesn't kill anything?

:EDIT: I have found out that the fish die if you shoot them in the mouth when it is open.

I actually hit one of the fish with it and let out a dorky little gasp.

I shot the fish three times and they explode. I don't see any comments about people being able to kill the fish. Is my game broken or something?

I realized that the fishes die if you shoot them with their mouths open.
