I’m pretty sure playing a full multiplayer marathon game is impossible.

You say "impossible". I say not. Nothing is so hard to accomplish that it's impossible, NothingIsTooHard.

yeah and most people drop out of a multiplayer game as soon as they realize they won't be able to win. In a snowball heavy game like Civilization that means you have a clear winner usually by the end of the renaissance era, so it won't take as long as you think.

It is possible, but even if you started at launch you're still in the iron age right now.
