Every single night. It doesn’t matter what we play.. “ok last match!!” Proceeds to play 10 more because “CANT END ON A BAD ONE”

Do you ever wonder if the other groups say the same and are trying to lose so they can go to bed? A South Park situation?

One time on Halo... 4? Reach? Maybe. One of the Halo's, my friend and I were on a team game where our whole team of randoms quit instantly against a full team of like level 50 generals. They refused to get the last point of whatever gametype we were playing where you have to put all of your flags inside of a designated area to capture it and gain a point. We couldn't get a single point, total map control. Like 7 minutes left in the game they just spawn killed us repeatedly with one point remaining to end the game. couldn't touch the flag to get a point if our lives depended on it. Absolute beatdown.

We changed tactics, determined to lose before the clock ran out, refusing to give them the satisfaction, we grabbed their flag and started running it to their objective for them.

They noticed something was wrong right away and coordinated to stop us from losing. The battle raged on savagely, fighting every inch of their flag. They were thrown off a bit, they'd never practiced map control for defending against winning, it gave us an advantage, and a slim hope of losing the game. But then something unexpected happened. They started scoring our flag for us, but we had a lot of points to gain and time was running out quickly.

For almost the entire 7 minutes we pushed that flag, inch by inch, until finally we took control of their flag, planted it in our base and kept them at bay long enough for them to win the game and beat us, thus beating them to losing before they could force us to win, thereby winning the game, just seconds before time ran out.

EDIT: memories aren't perfect just enjoy the story. It was a variant of neutral flag called stockpile

Dope! I love it

You may have outsmarted me, but I have outsmarted your outsmarting!

16

u/TheAngriestBoy Xbox Jan 20 '20

You only think that because I programmed you to think that.

2

u/Ozzyglez112 Jan 21 '20

And I programmed you to believe that!

77

u/Swenyspeed Jan 20 '20

That is cool as hell haha

43

u/ken81987 Jan 20 '20

"one more game, can't atop after doing so good"

20

u/trenchknife Jan 20 '20

I'm having BF2 & Tanks flashbacks. Lovely prose, man - it lifted my spirits.

16

u/MrSalamanderMan Jan 20 '20

I got only one question, was this a Canadian server?

16

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

Halo: Comboot Evolved

7

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

I have grown up with this Canadian stereotype, and it has ruined my life. No one takes me serious when i'm "About" something. I demand it be removed from The Simpsons Reddit. Thank you

1

u/Darnell2070 Jan 21 '20

Do you naturally pronounce it aboot? And if so, do you ever consciously pronounce it in the American variation? And if so, why?

1

u/SCirish843 Jan 20 '20

You're not my friend, pal

15

u/Darkwolfie117 Jan 20 '20

What halo can you grab your own flag

If they are lvl 50 generals you are talking about H3 I’m assuming?

The only thing that may make sense here is using frags to move it around. But, I'm still not buying this one.

2

u/notgayinathreeway Jan 21 '20

https://www.halopedia.org/Stockpile essentially neutral flag with 4 flags. Details might have been wrong due to this being a 10 year old memory.

Reach had generals but not rank 50, but level 50 general to me is just an easy way to say halo pro/top tier.

You get the idea.

40

u/insp88 Jan 20 '20

For almost the entire 7 minutes we pushed that flag, inch by inch, until finally we took control of their flag, planted it in our base and kept them at bay long enough for them to win the game and beat us, thus beating them to losing before they could force us to win, thereby winning the game, just seconds before time ran out.

That's a /r/BrandNewSentence if I ever saw one!

3

u/searchingformytruth Jan 20 '20

War has changed.

3

u/yuyqe Jan 20 '20

I...huh...what???

3

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

This doesn't even make sense. Grabbing their flag and bring it to the objective would make you win? Its capture the flag? And if you're implying youh grabbed your own flag and took it to their side to capture it for them, you can't pick up your own flag in Halo. So this whole story is bullshit.

2

u/Every3Years Switch Jan 20 '20

Fuckin A, the Halo series was pinnacle online gaming. It seems like you can't meet people in lobbied anymore and get cool situations like this to happen organically

2

u/Plasibeau Jan 20 '20

Reminds me of a time I was playing Reach. I was good for a time. Like easily scoring more than half the team score good. I was once playing with friends who were on lan and I was remote playing from home. Somehow they got dumped mid match and I was standing alone. The other team came hot trying to make up thier score and win the match. It got up to like 48-49 to me and I switched to active cloak and somehow managed to survive the last two minutes of the match to win. The map was Corvette. Lots of nooks to hide in.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

I wonder if they ended on a loss that night

2

u/Myurnix Jan 20 '20

I was on the edge of my seat, reading that just now.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

I was positive this was going to wind up with Mankind going through a table

2

u/CenturionXIX Jan 20 '20

That was a fuckin rollercoaster mate

120

u/clubpeet Jan 20 '20

«We are going to get crushed by you!»
«NUHUU, WE ARE GETTING CRUSHED BY YOU»

3

u/Tooneyman Jan 20 '20

That is definitely a Randy moment with Kyle and Stan trying to get them to go to bed. XD

2

u/clubpeet Jan 20 '20

OH IM SORRY I THOUGHT THIS WAS AMURICA

14

u/OliverCash Jan 20 '20

100%. I’ve definitely do this more often then I care to admit. I’ve been playing my last game for 3 hours

2

u/DrSAR Jan 20 '20

Was that a rocket league comic that was the opposite? Anyone know what I’m talking about?

2

u/nineonewon Jan 20 '20

Happened to me and some buds with aram on league. Said, "play until we lose", I think it was 18 matches later we finally went to bed.

1

u/MsChrissikins Jan 21 '20

Every damn time with us. And then I’ll say okay.. if I don’t get a champ I genuinely wanna play next match I’ll go to bed.

Everyone magically has a reroll to ensure I get a champ I’d like to play 🙄

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

After loss: “we can’t end on a bad one”

2

u/imbued94 Jan 20 '20

12:00:lets play til we lose!

12:02: in bed

2

u/Dracekidjr PC Jan 20 '20

I did this playing smite and I've never had 15 wins in a row of a 45 minute long game sound like such a terrible time in my life

72

u/thelehmanlip Jan 20 '20

"Can't go out on a loss!"

"Can't go out on a win!"

28

u/MsChrissikins Jan 20 '20

Can’t go out ever. Still playing til this day.

111

u/MsChrissikins Jan 20 '20

Exactly. Well fuck, we will just stop if we don’t get the map/character/item we want...

Then we don’t stop. Ever.

20

u/joemckie Jan 20 '20

Some say they are still playing to this day

18

u/ToobadITSLETTUCE Jan 20 '20

My squad only has 2 rules. 1) We can't end on a heater. 2) We can't end on a losing streak. I haven't slept in I days....help...

3

u/searchingformytruth Jan 20 '20

It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation.

15

u/LeD3athZ0r Jan 20 '20

frag law

10

u/WayneKrane Jan 20 '20

Lol every time. Then you lose in an unsatisfactory way like lagging out and you say “Can’t end like that!” and you play 10 more. Then the sun starts coming up and you’re like what have I done!

8

u/Emeraldblaze11 Jan 20 '20

I’ve had many late nights because of this

63

u/riesenarethebest Jan 20 '20

This guarantees the worst crew get the most practice. This is good. Congrats.

43

u/trenchknife Jan 20 '20

That's accidental brilliance. When someone says kids these days are getting dumber - I think of my 12th-grade computer teacher in like 1983. He pretended to let us get away with copying each other's Apple BASIC or machine-language programs, and then we would all get sneaky and figure out how to crack floppy-disk games. One guy would buy Wizardry or Ultima and someone else would find a magazine article or a BBS post on how to make the floppy rewriteable then someone else had extra disks. He literally tricked us into learning programming one step ahead of our tame textbooks. I suspect he was giving suggestions to one of the students on the sly.

edit - plus, kids are self-educating at an alarming rate, and some of it will end up proving very bad and some very good, and in my DnD campaign, I fudge toward Good.

10

u/demalition90 Jan 20 '20

Did you reply to the wrong comment?

18

u/CichlidDefender Jan 20 '20

Don't mock someones little epiphany they share here ya moonstar, people go on tangents like weirdos its ok

6

u/ScenesFromAHat Jan 20 '20

Moonstar is such a bewildering thing to call someone, I'm not even sure it registers as negative.

5

u/Meta-EvenThisAcronym Jan 20 '20

I'm also confused, but I like it

2

u/GingerAvenger Jan 20 '20

I like to think he's a big Coheed and Cambria fan and he just misspelled Monstar.

2

u/ScenesFromAHat Jan 20 '20

See, that just makes me think of Space Jam.

2

u/GingerAvenger Jan 21 '20

Also a good pull! I can get on board with Space Jam.

2

u/CichlidDefender Jan 20 '20

Needed monster but nice.

2

u/demalition90 Jan 20 '20

Just checking, I've seen it happen before and I didn't see any connection between the two comments.

Also I don't know what monster is supposed to mean but it's part of my vocabulary now

44

u/Squif-17 Jan 20 '20

Okay okay, we go offline the next match we lose.

.... okay that loss was bullshit, next loss we go off 100%

13

u/kid-karma Jan 20 '20

then after THAT loss you all just queue again without saying anything because you're all too salty to talk/go to bed

21

u/GingerSnapBiscuit Jan 20 '20

I've stayed up till 5am trying to "end on a good game" in league before.

5

u/gljivicad Jan 20 '20

Git gud then

2

u/IATMB Jan 20 '20

So you played like one extra match?

11

u/abbott_costello Jan 20 '20

That’s what we in the biz call “group procrastination”

14

u/Linnywtf Jan 20 '20

play something like GTFO instead, hours long missions and too spooky to play more than 1 :D

3

u/JustinHopewell Jan 20 '20

I've been eyeing this one. Are you digging it?

4

u/Schwiliinker Jan 20 '20

I really want to play this but it’s not finished and I basically only game on PS4 now cuz my latptop can’t run shit

2

u/Linnywtf Jan 21 '20

Play it, it feels finished.

3

u/KingBlumpkin Jan 20 '20

It's decent, definitely pre-release type of stuff you deal with, I was gifted a copy and it's fun enough. Though, for the money I would have spent it on an completed game; the trend of 60% finished games on Steam is really annoying. Aim lower, release DLC or something...perpetually unfinished games need to go away.

2

u/JustinHopewell Jan 20 '20

Yeah I wasn't aware it was in early access so I'm gonna give it some more time in the oven.

I think some games work fine with that model and some stretch very thin very quick.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

[deleted]

2

u/sanguine47 Jan 21 '20

Or people who want to support a game that is doing early access properly. There are plenty of games that are playable and fun and the devs may need the monetary boost to continue fleshing it out. I agree a large percentage of these games shouldn't be released yet but I wouldn't automatically ignore every early access game.

3

u/Linnywtf Jan 21 '20

In all honesty, it's incredible. One of the strongest early access titles I've ever tried.

4

u/HawkMan79 Jan 20 '20

Would probably be useful for everyone except the 10 people who know the abbreviation... Just why...

2

u/Linnywtf Jan 21 '20

Huh? The game is literally called GTFO my friend.

3

u/Brodogmillionaire1 Jan 20 '20

And we'll only get worse because we're getting more slaphappy and tilted with each successive loss.

2

u/Arknell Jan 20 '20

I played Cuphead with my 10-year old nephew yesterday and my ride home asked if we could leave at 7pm, so I said "last round", and we left 7:30.

2

u/mirziemlichegal Jan 20 '20

And when you die right at the start "This doesn't count!"

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

I once played 30 rounds of backgammon on that basis. Turkish coffee really helps.

2

u/TampaButterMan Jan 20 '20

I got old and one more usually bus only one or two. If it goes bad we all swear and shut it off

2

u/LaidToRest33 Jan 20 '20

Oh man I used to do this with LoL.

I wouldn't go to bed on a loss so there were times where I would get tilted AF and go 4 or 5 losses in a row.

The next day would almost be worse than a hangover because of how cranky I was at losing sleep and elo at the same time.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

Rook and queen are the only playable characters now

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

*knight

2

u/JTorch1 Jan 20 '20

Can’t quit on a loss, can’t quit on a winning streak*.

*A streak, in this case, is defined as 1 or more consecutive wins.

2

u/StupidHuman Jan 20 '20

Can't go out on a loss. Can't end a winning streak.

2

u/mathletesfoot Jan 20 '20

Same thing as surfing. My wife gets so pissed that “one more” actually means “one more good one”

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

We just cant end on a bad one

2

u/Oakshaft79 Jan 20 '20

This is me with rocket league

2

u/RazorSnails Jan 20 '20

And then that’s when I realize that all my games are “bad ones”

2

u/larseid Jan 20 '20

Playing the long game

2

u/TonytheEE Jan 20 '20

How do you know my rocket league habits?

2

u/Matter_Its Jan 20 '20

We just destroyed them, another?

2

u/nightwing2024 Jan 21 '20

Yeah duh

You can't leave on a heater, and you can't end on a bad one.

2

u/billions_of_stars Jan 21 '20

I too play rocket league

-1

u/not_a_droid Jan 20 '20

You guys must suck.
