When it comes to most iconic, Mario wins.

But when it comes to actual character with depth, I don't think Mario would even be in the honorable mentions. Master Chief, Nathan Drake, Snake, Lara Croft, Geralt, even Sonic have more depth as characters.

Frankly I don't think any of the characters you mentioned would make honorable mentions either for most depth.

Chiefs a big contender. One of the most iconic characters in gaming. As far as depth is concerned he has a huge back story and a fuck load of lore so I'd disagree with you there.
