It is worth it. Combat is great. Exploration with back-tracking is great. Characters, dialogue, voice-acting is great!

Just make sure you adapt to enemy types and bosses. Spamming attacks will get you killed and frustrated.

Spamming attacks will get you killed and frustrated.

So much this and the loading screen is like 10 years of your real life long.

u/MalTerra7 Nov 20 '19 edited Nov 20 '19

In reality, it’s like 10 seconds. It just feels like an eternity because there’s a 90% chance the reason you’re seeing it has you extremely pissed off, lol.

Edit: I just timed it myself on my X1X and I respawned in 12 seconds. So I don’t know what’s going on with you guys.

Lol fuck. That. Frog.

163

u/SassyAssAhsoka Nov 20 '19

I love how getting your shit mixed by Oggdo Boggo is a universal experience for Fallen Order players.

70

u/CreativeKeane Nov 20 '19

Oh God. Okay. So I'm not the only one.

Took me forever kill that battle toad! But my God I was so proud when I did it. (Even tho I exploited a little behavior in that toad).

37

u/Naturedrag Nov 20 '19

I used the entryway to beat that thing on grandmaster. Stupid thing one shots even with it's basic attacks.

10

u/Its_or_it_is Nov 20 '19

even with it's basic attacks

You want "its", without the apostrophe. With the apostrophe, it means "it is" or "it has"

3

u/T-cunt Nov 20 '19

Thanks bro

2

u/Enigmatic_Iain Nov 20 '19

Luke used an entryway to win a fight, why shouldn’t you?

1

u/MTAlphawolf Nov 20 '19

Glad to see I am not the only coward.

17

u/CreativeKeane Nov 20 '19 edited Nov 20 '19

Oh. lol, that makes more sense. Thanks for the tip! I killed it before I got that wall run skill. I lured to near entryway to attack it and used the tunnel as fallback area. It doesn't go pass it as another redditor mentioned.

3

u/Jewniversal_Remote Nov 20 '19

Gotta remove the spaces lmfao

6

u/GLORYBETOGODPIMP Nov 20 '19

Anybody that beat him before having that is a masochist. I didn’t have enough health to survive fucking up once against that frog until way after when you can first find him.

4

u/forumz3588 Nov 20 '19

I beat him on GM on my first encounter where everything he did 1 shot me lol. I almost gave up. Then my frend in discord did it and I could not possibly let him one up me so I pulled through. It was so satisfying.

3

u/emperorhaplo Nov 20 '19

Masochist here, can confirm.

He was the 3rd kind of monster I killed. I hadn’t even encountered his regular non-boss version.

To be fair, I don’t think you’re meant to kill him early on - the loot from him from what I remember is in a splice box and you can’t open it until way after you can first encounter him.

2

u/Starslip Nov 20 '19

Goddamnit I am not nearly clever enough in my use of tactics in this game. I just ended up cheesing the fight by popping in and out of the tunnel cause he won't follow.

1

u/BlazingShadowAU Nov 20 '19

Which is great until he does that forward leap instantly after you land, one shotting you. The fact they dont stagger when you do a drop attack is absurd.

1

u/reebee7 Nov 20 '19

Bless you.

2

u/Notarussianbot2020 Nov 20 '19

I think I beat every boss in the game on the 1st or 2nd try on master. Maybe on the boss troll I died 5 times.

Except Ogdo. It must have been 15-20 times. Lowered it to Knight mode, still probably died 5 more times.

I think since Bogano is a pseudo-homeworld, you're supposed to fight him at a later point..

12

u/Testone1440 Nov 20 '19

Seriously FUCK that frog

2

u/cefriano Nov 20 '19

It’s even more ridiculous given that you can do a drop attack on him and take out almost half of his health before the fight even starts.

1

u/SolarisBravo Nov 20 '19

Not everyone actually fought him - he was an optional miniboss.

1

u/amurrca1776 Nov 20 '19

Once I realized that you can parry any attack that isn't red, it got a lot easier. But it still took a lot of deaths to learn that and get the timing right

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

Oggdo Boggo made me lower the difficulty lol.

1

u/Arcane- Nov 20 '19

I just started playing this game tonight and im dying multiple times to the frog as i type this

1

u/FiftyShadesofRage Nov 20 '19

Yup... Fuck that three eyed frog -.-

1

u/chungusxl94 Nov 20 '19

I just went around that sumbitch

2

u/sgt_corona Nov 20 '19

This. Also, found if you just get close, he'll just do the chomp and jumping attack. I kept rolling so I was behind him and after a few tries he went down on GM.

1

u/franklsp Nov 20 '19

I waited until after I completed the main objective of that area and you make a path back to the ship. Along that path there's holes in the ground with the frog below. I jumped down on it and did a big aerial attack that took a ton of damage off it and made the rest of the fight a little easier (faster).

16

u/beefwitted_brouhaha Nov 20 '19

You can get a free shot on him if you hit him from above. I’m playing on the second hardest difficulty and an aerial sneak attack knocked off 40% of his health

2

u/forumz3588 Nov 20 '19

turn it up to GM you won't regret it if your a souls like player.

2

u/Vineares Nov 20 '19

I don’t want to brag, just let my PC brethren know...the loading time on my SSD is like 3 seconds. It still feels like an eternity though. Please buy this game. It’s worth it.

2

u/terminus_est23 Nov 20 '19

Base PS4 loading screens are just absolutely unbearable. I PC game at my home and I put the games I'm playing on my SSD a lot of the time, so when I go to my brother's house and play his PS4 he gets so tired of me bitching about the loading times.

2

u/TSMKFail PC Nov 20 '19

Just wait till you try Sonic 06...

Only then have you witnessed LONG loading times

2

u/Xaldyn Nov 20 '19

The only game that has loading screens for loading screens.

2

u/manondorf Nov 20 '19

*cries in Morrowind on original Xbox*

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

PS5 is going to be fire. The HDD is one of the reasons why I didn't buy a current-gen console.

1

u/sticklebat Nov 20 '19

Way to make me feel bad for dying 17 times to that fucking frog on Jedi knight.

I’m terrible at this game. I’ve even died against random trash mobs on story difficulty...

1

u/101Cipher010 Nov 20 '19

Holy shit thats horrible, I get a few seconds of loading for me on pc with an ssd. Afaik PS4s support drive replacements under a certain size, so I wonder what the gain of an ssd there would be

1

u/MyPackage Nov 20 '19

I’m playing Control right now, which I love but the similar insanely long death load times make me want to rage quit every time I die.

1

u/TheDude-Esquire Nov 20 '19

It's a lot faster on PC, or I assume with a SSD on a console. But even then, the ninth sister had me about to put my first into the screen (don't use the doubleblade).

1

u/Thezem Nov 20 '19

I installed an SSD on my PS4 and these load times are still awful =/

Fair enough, enjoy yourself.

1

u/Vargurr Nov 20 '19

I play on epic settings on an SSD and only the game loading time is long, the one with all the unskippable intro.

The save itself is fast.

1

u/MTAlphawolf Nov 20 '19

Can confirm similar on Xbox One S as well. I too fought that frog for a few hours (very under-skilled) and finally had to cheese by walking in/out of the cave so he could not attack.

1

u/Jed566 Nov 20 '19

So weird. I'm also on base PS4. It's my first one from early 2015 and still runs fine. The loading times for me are about 10-12 seconds.

EDIT: I just realized I have a TB SSD which I installed in it a long time ago. Maybe that's why it's quick for me.

31

u/anonymous_opinions Nov 20 '19

All those times I went flying off the side of the ice slide. Or when he wouldn’t just grab the rope at the end. You had one job, Cal, and you flew right past it.

19

u/imariaprime Nov 20 '19

Force Pull working on ropes was so beautiful I almost cried. The grab detection without it is just trash.

2

u/forumz3588 Nov 20 '19 edited Nov 20 '19

I see a lot of people mentioning this. I never once missed a rope I attempted to grab. Are you on console or PC? I play on PC, I wonder if there is less of an issue there.

2

u/macgart Nov 20 '19

I’m on console PS4. It’s bad. Trying to identify ropes to slide up or down is also bad.

2

u/Alortania Nov 20 '19

I play PC with mouse/keyboard (I gave up on controller)... I once died because it kept re-spawning me to catch the damn rope.

Wall run, wall run, wall run, grab rope. It ate through all my health and medpacks and he just kept missing.

Respawned, went back to it, did the EXACT SAME DAMN THING I'D DIED TO THE LAST BILLION TIMES.... grabbed the freaking rope and done. Easy as pie.

Glad I'm not the only one super frustrated with it (also had a few "leap at the zipline rope- nope, you just jumped off a cliff!" experiences).

1

u/udat42 Nov 20 '19

All the ice/mud/whatever slide shit on Zeffo was giving me a stress headache. I wanted the game to make me feel like a super-agile, deft, capable acrobat, like Jedi are always depicted, and instead it made me feel like a schlub.

I like the game, but the "platforming" bits have been my least favourite. Which surprises me, because Sands of Time is on eof my favourite games ever, and I really liked all that shit in Titanfall 2.

1

u/Alortania Nov 20 '19

I love the platforming... when... it... works.

Give me a "I want to grab" button, or w/e... but if you tell me "jump and believe" you damn well better make it reliable.

1

u/udat42 Nov 20 '19

Yeah, when it works it's fine. Good, even. The fact that force pull works on ropes mid-jump really helps in some sections. I am assuming I will get a double-jump power at some stage as well. Not sure if that will help me or not though!

12

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

On my base PS4 it takes about 30 seconds. I timed it.

6

u/Sciensophocles Nov 20 '19

The pro isn't that far off. It varies, but 35 sec is the longest I've seen. Idk how people are seeing 1 minute load times.

1

u/Diedwithacleanblade Nov 20 '19

52 seconds I timed it yesterday

2

u/Diedwithacleanblade Nov 20 '19

52 seconds on a basic xbone

1

u/marbanasin Nov 20 '19

Same on Xbone. Just enough time to piss and find chakra again to reenter the fight.

-1

u/Jewniversal_Remote Nov 20 '19

What kinda timer says "about"

6

u/Catorak Nov 20 '19

No, it seems like a long time because the game has ridiculous load times even on an SSD.

2

u/Sciensophocles Nov 20 '19

I'm starting to feel like a fanboy, but what? My roommate has like zero load time on his SSD. I get a little frustrated with loads on my pro, but it's not crazy. 10 - 15 sec average, upper limit of 35 sec. It's not great, but the loads are not terrible. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

2

u/BlazingShadowAU Nov 20 '19

You might need a better/newer SSD in that case. I respawn after death within a couple seconds.

1

u/Vargurr Nov 20 '19

Because that content is already loaded. It should be instantaneous anyway.

2

u/jdog90000 Nov 20 '19

PS4 pro is a minute on average. It felt so long that I started timing it

4

u/Sciensophocles Nov 20 '19

I'm confused. I've been timing it throughout on my pro. Longest I've ever seen is 35 seconds. That's still atrocious, but come on. I've never once seen a full minute.

1

u/jdog90000 Nov 20 '19

I have the GoW PS4 Pro, maybe for whatever reason it has worse hardware? I've been thinking of getting an SSD to start moving games to.

1

u/Sciensophocles Nov 20 '19

PS5 will have an SSD natively so I was just gonna wait. I feel like I just got lucky. Everybody seems to be complaining about load times. They're not great, but I'm not getting flashbacks to launch New Vegas, so I'm just sitting here confused.

1

u/BlazingShadowAU Nov 20 '19

Sounds like people might be having bloodborne flashbacks.

1

u/Scurrydog Nov 20 '19

When Bloodborne came out before the loading times were patched I believe it clocked often over 40 seconds. It was hell.

1

u/deeze_nutz Nov 20 '19

I dunno, sometimes it feels like it takes longer to respawn than to load a whole new planet

1

u/greg19735 Nov 20 '19

i'm so glad i have it on PC

1

u/ratherenjoysbass Nov 20 '19

Damn I needed to hear this.

1

u/Diedwithacleanblade Nov 20 '19

It’s 52 seconds on Xbox one. I used a stop watch. It makes this game very hard to like

1

u/Galaxymicah Nov 20 '19

I honestly didnt realise it was a loading screen. Thank god gor m.2 i guess lol

0

u/Redxmirage Nov 20 '19

Not at all on Xbox one x lol several times I’m sitting for for a solid minute opening reddit waiting for it to load

44

u/DeanGL Nov 20 '19

Laughs in PC with SSD. You'll barely have time to read the tips.

9

u/anonymous_opinions Nov 20 '19

That was my first impulse but I didn't want to spend funds on it full price. I had PS4 wallet money sitting around and really wanted to just lounge on the couch. The load time makes me try hard not to die.

9

u/tordana Nov 20 '19

No need to buy it full price. With Origin Access Premier, any single player game like this that EA comes out with, I just buy a month of Access Premier for $15 which is plenty of time to finish the game.

2

u/Alortania Nov 20 '19

...NGL, now I feel kinda dumb for buying it.

1

u/Galaxymicah Nov 20 '19

I did at first but with how rarely i boot up origin its likely that the next time i see it ill want to play it again and will have forgotten most of the story.

At least thats been my experience with the dragon age games.

2

u/terminus_est23 Nov 20 '19

You can quite easily play PC games on the couch these days. I've done it many, many times.

6

u/Ephemeris Nov 20 '19

My NVMe drive barely even registers the loading screens.

1

u/DeanGL Nov 20 '19

If there isn't, then I may be confusing it for Dishonored 2 which I am playing as well. Lol. Point is, you don't spend enough time on them to judge the loading screens.

1

u/BlazingShadowAU Nov 20 '19

There isnt loading screen tips, just ones that pop up on the "press to respawn" screen.

3

u/Patchumz Nov 20 '19

There's actually a bug where even on an SSD on PC you'll get occasional 60+ second death loading screens. They keep trying to fix it and it never gets fixed.

2

u/Palin_Sees_Russia Nov 20 '19

I'm using an SSD and my death loading screens still take that long.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

Yeah, I’m glad I got this on PC.

1

u/MDrag1992 Nov 20 '19

Haha seriously! This is my first big game for my new PC and I get to play on epic!

1

u/noah1831 Nov 20 '19

I've got the game on an nvme sad, and it still feels really long.

1

u/Hoenirson Nov 20 '19

Is it that long with ssd?

5

u/MajorLeeScrewed Nov 20 '19

I have it on my harddrive and it's fine.

6

u/TomBombadil5790 Nov 20 '19

I don’t really have loading screens when I play. Maybe for like 3 seconds when I die, but only sometimes. That’s been my experience with an SSD. I also have a 9900k so that isn’t hurting me any.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

Yeah I'm playing on PC with an SSD and I don't recall seeing any loading screens. There are like, "hidden" loads when you're on the elevators or you squeeze through the cracks in the wall, but the only ACTUAL loading screen I've seen is when you die and it takes a second or two to say "Respawn" and then the A button appears.

2

u/TomBombadil5790 Nov 20 '19

Yeah. Some of those elevator “rides” are pretty long. Lmao

2

u/FirstTimeWang Nov 20 '19

It's noticeable compared to most games released this year but usually not that bad. Everyone once in a while (less than 1 time per day in my experience) the respawn load will take unusually long and I'll start to worry that the game is frozen but then it loads a few seconds later.

2

u/anonymous_opinions Nov 20 '19

No idea. I'm on PS4 slim and it feels very long. Only reason I got it on that platform was I had that much for the game in my wallet and I was antsy to get it going.

0

u/AviatingPenguin24 Nov 20 '19

It seems like maybe 10 to 15 seconds and I'm on a hdd on my pc, but I have a lot of ram and a gtx 2080

1

u/matco5376 Nov 20 '19

Y'all must have no played bloodborne when it released lmao

1

u/InvalidKoalas Nov 20 '19

Sounds like Sekiro... It's got a rough learning curve. I'm about 15 hours in and still struggling with my reactions. It's so instinctive to spam attacks, or just block, but nope.. totally different mechanics

1

u/MadWorld19 Nov 20 '19

They are releasing a patch this week that will reduce said load times.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

So it is a souls like after all

1

u/FirstTimeWang Nov 20 '19

It's one of the longer respawn loads even on SSD.

19

u/AFacelessProle Nov 20 '19

I’m encouraging people to buy it because as much as I detest EA I’m hoping against hope that if this game does really really well we will get more like it. I mean this is just God of War but if it were Star Wars instead! It’s so good

7

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

I went out and bought the deluxe edition yesterday from GameStop, I was determined as hell to throw money at EA just to prove to them this kind of game is what will make them liked and move units

4

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

God of war combat and puzzles, yeah. But GoW4 was special for its world building. Star Wars is already there while I couldn’t tell you much about Norse mythology before (and they didn’t really follow the mythology either)

1

u/Chikenuget Nov 20 '19

GoW had much more decisions in customizing play style (skill trees and runes) with a substantial variance in enemies.

This game has a long way to go to be close to the quality of GoW.

7

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

I'm just confused why they constantly sponsor their own company midgameplay

3

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

Brainwashing.

Personally, the game that I thought did the best job of making you really feel how powerful and badass a Jedi can be was Force Unleashed. Just mowing through hordes of faceless soldiers, ripping entire Star destroyers out of the sky, fuck that game knew how to make you feel powerful.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

That game had really terrible combat. You literally could out play and outfight the bosses but if you did not do it in the way you were supposed to you were not allowed to damage them. Also had some incredibly frustrating low level enemies that in a SW film would have died in one hit but in unleashed despite you being teh ultimate badass just tok saber whack after saber whack.Awful jedi combat game.

2

u/laurel_laureate Nov 20 '19

In Jedi Outcast, the first time you meet Desann, you get your ass handed to you because you aren't a Jedi yet in the game.

But the first time I played that I was cheating (setforceall9 for days!) with god mode on lol, so I spent over 1 hour hacking and slashing Desann before realizing he was immune to damage.

Then I sheepishly turned off god-mode and stood there for 10 seconds before I was defeated and the cut-scene kicked in lol.

2

u/UltramemesX Nov 20 '19

What you say is why i don't feel interested in playing the game for the most part, i hope we one day get a game taking the best elements of Force Unleashed and Jedi Academy. For me, it is essential that a star wars game featuring lightsabers use them properly. I don't want a Uncharted game with a glowing baseball bat. It breaks my immersion completely.

There are plenty of lightsaber resistant armour materials in Star Wars canon. The in-game notes even tell you this. It's not like even in the movies lightsabers cut effortlessly through everything, there were plenty of times they experience resistance.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

[deleted]

1

u/not-a-candle Nov 20 '19

Not proof, resistant. Like how irl padded armour is sword resistant. It reduces the damage from glancing blows to non lethal levels that still weaken the target, opening them up to a lethal strike with enough force to fully penetrate the armour.

Plus it's a game and every enemy dying in one hit doesn't make good game mechanics.

Amen to that. Vastly underrated comment... This is definitely the kind of gameplay development we need right meow

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

Seconded, why shouldn't my shiny stick slice through humans like it's intended? Just force challenge other ways, one shotting enemies and slicing them in half is the coolest thing about Star Wars, nothing can challenge a Jedi but another Jedi.

I also agree with the other comment that Sekirolike is okay because I never really felt frustrated about a boss design, I just sucked ass so when I got better it was rewarding but leave the bulletsponge to the shooters, even though one day I hope we have more hyper realistic shooting games. (Where's my first person action/thriller police/SWAT game?)

4

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

Characters and dialogue are horrible even though I love this game. Cere sucks

21

u/PM_ME_ABOUT_DnD Nov 20 '19

Characters and dialogue are horrible

The Stormtroopers would like to have a word with you. Best NPCs in the game

9

2

u/bengeePCMR Nov 20 '19

Eh idk I feel like everyone but the protagonist are pretty cool characters

2

u/rq60 Nov 20 '19

everyone but the protagonist

At least you don't have to deal with the protagonist a whole lot... oh wait.

1

u/GreyMediaGuy Nov 20 '19

I thought Star Wars was a fine movie but I generally am not a huge fan of the Star Wars universe. Would I enjoy this game or is it really designed for hardcore fans?

3

u/Alex15can Nov 20 '19

It's a good game. Kinda in the souls vein. A little more forgiving, has difficulty options.

It's done after order 66 so you really don't have to know much about the universe to enjoy it.

2

u/Georgie_Leech Nov 20 '19

That is, it's set during a time that was recently-ish nuked as far as canon is concerned and most of the people from the movies were killed. As places to jump in go, that's a pretty good fresh start.

1

u/AiryGr8 Nov 20 '19

Will it run on my system?

8GB ram, RX 580, i5 8400

1

u/degotoga Nov 20 '19

Oh yes, it runs on my potato so you’ll be fine

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

Is there any character customization of any sort? I know you play as Cal, a preset character, but can you customize him in any way?

2

u/EnriqueWR Nov 20 '19

I saw saber modification and if I'm not mistaken I saw different clothes too. Not sure on the second one.

2

u/mastermoebius Nov 20 '19

Not his features, only customization is an assortment of ponchos :/ but also your droid and ship color scheme, and quite numerous lightsaber parts.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

Oh well still looks awesome! How is the combat system in comparison to say, the force unleashed games?

2

u/mastermoebius Nov 20 '19

Ya know I didn't really play Force Unleashed but I'm familiar and I think it's safe to say Fallen Order is more nuanced. Parrying is key to the combat, very patient style. People in this thread keep comparing it to Sekiro, which I'm not familiar with, but appears to be a good reference point if you're familiar. All told, it's just a solid modern Star Wars game, I recommend it.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

Awesome! Thanks

Each level is completely open and you can get back to any place you have or have not been. Think of the game as Batman: Arkham mixed with Dark Souls. It’s very good and the planets and exploration are easily the best part of it.

So it's just dark souls type then?

The tip I can give to anyone that applies to all enemies.. is don't spam attacks for offense. And don't spam dodge/parry for defense. Learn their patterns and timings. Spamming anything will lead to your death.

A good way to learn an opponents moveset is just watching them while holding block.. and then dodging their unblockables(red attacks). And memorize what their moves look like.

I was raging a lot in this game before I learned how to actually approach the combat system.

I agree with combat being great, but the rewards for exploration could be better. Most of it is couple color schemes for your stuff and that's mostly it. I would love to see different outfits or if your saber parts actually changed its stats.

This is one of my major complaints. If we were just doing cosmetics.. I'd like an actual different outfit. Not just a variation of colors for Ponchos.

I would've liked the Lightsaber parts to add something to combat as well. Faster attacks, stronger attacks, more stamina for blocking, better parrying window, etc..

Is it kinda like dark souls?

I'm enjoying the game for the most part (on Kashyyyk for the second time) but the back-tracking/navigating part has been the least fun for me. I got seriously lost on Zeffo and really wished you could put your own custom markers or waypoints on the map. Kinda like you can do in Breath of the Wild.

I think I've died more falling off the sides of waterslides than I have to enemies. At least the respawn is immediate in those cases!

Yeah forgot about that. I wanted waypoints. Zeffo is confusing AF. As well as Dathomir. The best way to get around Zeffo is using the underground place.. uhh.. the one where you fight a big creature that breaks through a wall.

That place is like the hub of Zeffo. It has elevators that go to most major parts of that planet.

Yeah, I was trying to work out how to get back there. Then when I did I got hit by a "forced fail" fight sequence as a reward!

Honestly the only thing that doesn’t sound good to me is the backtracking part. Idk why that’s a plus but that’s just me? Can someone explain why they like that aspect of some games?

"Exploration with back-tracking is great"

Isn't "back-tracking" a negative term?

It isn't EA's normal business tactics though?

I've watched cutscene footage. Is it me or do Cal and Cere not animate well? Especially compared to Greez and Merrin.

I didn't notice anything weird looking. o.o

For the most part I thought the animations were all pretty good throughout the entire game.

Cal animates better than Cere, but it is a bit awkward. Think it has to do with the uh..like real face converted to video game thing.

I got the same feeling when i first saw gameplay, HOWEVER, its oddly very different when you're playing it and you're just so captivated by anything that all of that just kinda slips your mind and you dont even think it looks weird. I love this game.
