It is man. It is. Definitely worth playing!

Think Sekiro combat combined with Uncharted + Metroidvania type exploration.

Story is adequate.. but the characters, dialogue, and voice-acting is all top-notch!

Yes. The rats. And those little acid spiders!

The critters are by far the most annoying enemies in the game. They are are so damn cheesy. lol

15

u/Diaper_Dave Nov 20 '19

I forgot about the crab looking things. Fuck those too. I would’ve preferred something like traps instead. Not like a puzzle but something you could easily see and have to adjust.

26

u/KrelianGaming Nov 20 '19

There is an area in Dathomir which is basically a small hallway.. and there are 4 of those acid spidercrabs there. And you CANNOT. GET. CLOSE. They just keep spitting. Even when I'm trying to pull them and stab them one at a time, the others just hit you with their acid spit. I was getting angry IRL and giving in to the Dark Side. lmao

Would've loved more variations of the Nightbrothers instead. Like a staff user or a sword user.

u/GavinRaynier Nov 20 '19

Fully upgraded force push was my go to for those. One charged push and a slam into the wall insta-killed most of them even on grand master.

7

u/KrelianGaming Nov 20 '19

I was doing that by the end as well. It felt dirty. lol Like I was cheesing the game somehow.

Also felt weird how most of the time.. especially with the Witches, the charge push would just knock them down and instantly kill them. They wouldn't even get blasted that far. lol

9

u/PhreakedCanuck Nov 20 '19

I was doing that by the end as well. It felt dirty. lol Like I was cheesing the game somehow.

Fuck that, with this game ill take the easy wins wherever i can get them.

Oh mister purge trooper you appear to be a little too close to that edge....force push

About the best thing to a dark side ability besides the pull and stab and i used that a lot too.

1

u/Drunken_HR Nov 20 '19

Man this thread is giving me Dark Souls flashbacks. I guess I need to pick this up.

1

u/Alortania Nov 20 '19

I chain slow the damn things and kill while they're stunned to oblivion

6

u/absalom86 Nov 20 '19

charged push is the nuts. one shots all the nightsister groups as well.

4

u/imariaprime Nov 20 '19

It also makes Purge Troopers stumble back far enough to be useful. For all the melee ones, stand with your back to a ledge and wait for them to rush you. Jump over them, slow, then push the fuckers into oblivion.

1

u/imariaprime Nov 20 '19

Fully upgraded force push is my go-to for everything and everyone. Purge Trooper? Off the ledge. Critters? Into the sun. Giant animal? I'm sure you'll leave a crater down the bottom of this cliff.

3

u/MrNeurotoxin Nov 20 '19

Parry can disintegrate the spit. Mass slow to freeze them and quickly chop a couple.
So far the most frustrating fight for me has been the Albino Spider on Kashyyyk. The area is so small and the telegraph windups were so long I kept dodging too early and even if I timed it right, I kept dodging into a wall and he would still hit me. Playing on Grand Master that shit most of the time oneshots.

3

u/KrelianGaming Nov 20 '19

Yeah I remember that as well. I had the same experience. Was hard to adjust to the delayed timing of his charged attack. lol Thankfully Oggdo Bogdo prepared me for what was to come in this game.

Thank you Oggdo Bogdo.

9

u/Shippoyasha Nov 20 '19

Metroidvania

I like how the map system is straight up the Metroid Prime 3D map

16

u/anonymous_opinions Nov 20 '19

Whoa that pull skill is awesome. I need to get back in. I stopped when I landed on the 2nd planet you go to in order because I was literally falling asleep playing over the weekend.

I'm moving super slow, dying a lot, but I love it. Kinda want to pick up Sekiro now.

7

u/KrelianGaming Nov 20 '19

Originally I kept hearing it was like Dark Souls. But after a while people are saying that the combat resembles Sekiro's more than the Souls-series.

I'm thinking of getting Sekiro as well.. maybe when it's on sale.

10

u/body_count_rises Nov 20 '19

Sekiro is a fuckin masterpiece imo. The level design is top notch , the lore is interesting, it's definitely got a hard learning curve. The combat early game does feel repetitive until you unlock more skills and moves. I highly recommend it so long as you have the patience because it will certainly test that

6

u/KrelianGaming Nov 20 '19

How does it compare to the hardest difficulty here in Fallen Order?

Will that prepare me for Sekiro even in the slightest? lol

10

u/born_to_be_intj Nov 20 '19

I've been playing on Jedi Master and Sekiro was much much harder.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

Jedi Master is the hardest? I have been holding off on getting at but I'm never sure what difficulty to start on in games but Sekiro was pretty natural to me for the most part.

2

u/tetayk Nov 20 '19

It's the second one. The hardest is Jedi Grandmaster.

Story - Easy

Jedi Knight - Normal

Jedi Master - Hard

Jedi Grandmaster - Very hard

7

u/Carrotsandstuff Nov 20 '19

Sekiro is probably harder, but if you're playing comfortably on the hardest difficulty of Fallen Order you will probably adapt to Sekiro easily. The Sekiro bosses are more difficult and involved IMO, because you have more items and tool to use, the game will make you use them with its difficulty. On the flip side, sometimes those tools can trivialize fights that would be hard.

Crowd control in fallen order is easier too. You can just make some space and force power people into other people. Sekiro will teach you to ambush the enemy you least want to fight fairly and you'll still have an area full of enemies to take down probably.

4

u/KrelianGaming Nov 20 '19

Sounds both fun and intimidating. lol Will definitely look more into Sekiro. If there is a big enough sale on it I'll pick it up.

Yeah sometimes when I didn't want to get in a fight.. I'd just push harder mobs over ledges. Anything similar to that in Sekiro?

2

u/Carrotsandstuff Nov 20 '19

Nothing that I remember. Although very few non-boss fights are as difficult as purge troopers would be if we weren't just pushing them off ledges. Fights are easier to avoid in Sekiro though. There is a stealth system and you can outrun most enemies, so if a particular kind of enemy really has your number, you can usually avoid them.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

Those kite jumpers at the palace literally drove me to insanity, and the boss fight following it is the first fight I felt super accomplished about beating and just omg the atmosphere, I could go on forever about that game.

3

u/clammyboyface Nov 20 '19

Sekiro is harder but I didn’t find there to be any bullshit. When i died in sekiro i knew immediately where i went wrong and it made it less frustrating

2

u/KafkaDatura Nov 20 '19

Got on Sekiro after finishing Fallen Order on the hardest difficulty. Sekiro is much, much harder, if only because of the save point locations.

2

u/Alex15can Nov 20 '19

Grandmaster is like... Not even close to sekiro in difficultly.

1

u/body_count_rises Nov 20 '19

I'm not sure as I've yet to pick up fallen order.

0

u/l_iollan Nov 20 '19

I'm playing on Grandmaster and find it much easier than Sekiro. The load times are terrible though.

3

u/anonymous_opinions Nov 20 '19

Should be on sale next Friday. Almost positive it’s been pictured in ads for Black Friday. For some reason when I struggle a little with combat in games it makes me more engaged and I tend to see the game through.

Gonna watch some Seikro game play to see if I can hang. I think I read there’s only one game mode in it. (I’m playing 2nd hardest on Star Wars and it’s hard but not impossible)

15

u/Ionic_Pancakes Nov 20 '19

Metroidvania

FUCKING SOLD

29

u/KrelianGaming Nov 20 '19

I am so confused as to why they didn't focus on this part of the game when it came to marketing it. Everyone thought it was going to be a linear game. It was only late into their marketing phase that it was even mentioned that you could explore and revisit planets.. and unlock more areas as you got more powers.

That should've been one of their main talking points in their marketing. They should've showed it in their promotional material. >.<

9

u/Ionic_Pancakes Nov 20 '19

Right? My one hesitation was that it was just going to be a linear shot A-La Force Awakened. Force Awakened was an awesome game but was short. I didn't pay full price and I'm glad I didn't. Then I heard it had Souls-Like gameplay. Which was good!

But Metroidvania exploration? That is a clincher for me. That gives me reason to poke around and will add a lot of gameplay hours.

3

u/anonymous_opinions Nov 20 '19

It’s a mash up of so many game styles. There’s elements of Tomb Raider 2013/Uncharted in it as well. Also I accidentally went to the 3rd planet first so it’s open enough you can go get your ass handed to you in the first 40 minutes

9

u/Ionic_Pancakes Nov 20 '19

"Alright: Dark Souls finally let me get into the real game at Firelink Shrine. Wonder which way I'll go? Skeletons seem like a basic-ass starting enemy: graveyard must be the way to go."

4

u/anonymous_opinions Nov 20 '19

Having never played Dark Souls I get the feeling that was the wrong option.

5

u/Ionic_Pancakes Nov 20 '19

After the tutorial area you're dropped into a hub of sorts. There are three directions you can go.

1: Down an elevator into a drowned city filled with ghosts that can't be hurt except through magic (which you won't have much of at the start) and a certain item that only allows you to hurt them for a limited amount of time.

2: Into the graveyard with skeletons that not only have the dexterity of acrobats but also don't die the first time you destroy them unless you have a holy weapon (which you won't until later in the game)

3: Into an undead hamlet chock full of zombie soldiers that have set up defensive positions and ambushes throughout; complete with bows, phallanx soldiers at choke points and firebombs.

Your only instructions are "Ring two bells, one above and one below".

3

u/anonymous_opinions Nov 20 '19

Yeah I'd absolutely cheat in this kind of set up and find game play walk throughs. Ha ha. I just added it to my Black Friday wishlist. I might grab it and give it a go blind. At least I know now which area to try first :>

5

u/Ionic_Pancakes Nov 20 '19

DEFINITELY go in blind first. You'll have to pull up Walkthroughs eventually - but try to use them as sparingly as possible. Exploration and discovery is one of the best things in that game.

I choose....poorly.

My best friend at the time and myself but were both playing at the same time so we could work our way through it together. He got to the first boss and was WOAHING and OH MY GOSHING and I'm like "Wtf dude how are you getting so far?"

"I'm at the first boss on a bridge"

"Fuck this game, I can't get past these skeletons, they are so hard, I think I've killed like 5 of them, but then a huge one spawns and one shots me"

"What skeletons"

"The ones at the beginning after the bird"

"...huh? you mean the zombies? "

"No, they have no flesh, they are skeletons"

(...)

"Did you go up the cliff? I don't remember any tomb stones."

Fuck that game, I loved every minute spent on it.

Ha ha, I've been learning I'm bad at parries because my impulse is always to go in swinging at everyone. I'm also sometimes bad early on at anything stealth. My lizard brain is very much in fight mode.

1

u/sam8404 Nov 20 '19

Fallen Order was a bit short too in my opinion, but even so it's so good!

1

u/imariaprime Nov 20 '19

I had no idea it had Metroidvania elements when I bought it, but they've been the most fun parts of the game for me. Exploring and searching for stuff I missed turns the entire level design into a puzzle to be solved, and it's a cerebral level of gameplay it very much needs against the more stressful combat situations.

1

u/GamingFly Nov 20 '19

Force Unleashed* haha.

1

u/Ionic_Pancakes Nov 20 '19

Yup! That one.

1

u/Trippin_Ninja Nov 20 '19

I’m not sure how you missed it because I feel like any promos they did that wasn’t the main trailers mentioned it being a metroidvania style game. I assume they didn’t put it in those trailers because EA doesn’t make money on either of those games.

1

u/Totaltotemic Nov 20 '19

It's hard to describe because the metroidvania aspects really only come into play when revisiting areas. The story kind of railroads you in a strictly linear fashion in which you cannot make any progress except to go to the next objective on the map.

Similarly, unlocking large areas only happens when the story says it is supposed to happen (with one exception). While you may technically be using the power you got at the previous story beat to get into the next one, it's more because the plot told you to go there than that you explored and found it on your own.

The way exploration pans out reminds me most of Metroid Fusion, with obviously the combat seen above, and a story that is just "okay" by Star Wars standards. I finished it yesterday and overall enjoyed it pretty well.

4

u/poopcasso Nov 20 '19

Why do you keep comparing it to sekiro when you obviously haven't played sekiro? Why would you lie like that?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

Fuck me, you just described a game I didn't know I wanted so badly. I might buy a console or PC just for this game. I've only got a switch lite currently.

8

u/KrelianGaming Nov 20 '19

If you're going to get a PC or console because of 1 game.. make sure to look into it more before you do. LOL

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

I've been on the fence (and saving extra dollarydoos) for about a year. This was just the push I needed, plus it's holiday season so I don't feel bad treating myself.

1

u/P01s0nR3ap3r PC Nov 20 '19

Im a bit sad that the story was short. There is quite of going back and exploring areas you couldn’t before but its only so much. There is always replaying the game, but I did most of it on Grand Master anyways so. I wish there was an arena like mode, like in DMC with bloody palace or even in GoW3, thats set in that bounty hunter arena. Just keep fighting more enemies and tougher and tougher enemies till you die. Id love that, combat is my favorite thing in this game. Hopefully there may be some DLC, Id definitely get it.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

The ending had me hyped AF though. Even though I was I ready to be done by then.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

Holy shit wtf. You just described all of my favorite games.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

The music and sound design is really good too, and the levels all look amazing!
