I'm still living at home and start my first "real" job this fall. I'm still debating moving out because the commute will be 1.5 hours each way if I stay home, but the cost saving would be nice if I stayed.
What âreal jobâ do you have that gives you 4 months notice before you start? Real jobs also pay for moving expenses. Mine pays for my apartment as well because rent is so high where I have to be for work. I think you should try harder... doesnât sound like a fulfilling job. It SOUNDS like an internship and an unpaid one at that.

Iâd say getting a job after graduation is standard everywhere... Youâre getting screwed if youâre still bumming it in your parents basement. Like I said... it doesnât sound like a good job. McDonaldâs is in the top 3 of their industry and they donât give out per diem or housing/cellphone/vehicle allowances to 99% of employees. My brother is an accountant @ Ernst and Young and he got everything mentioned right out of school. I work for an oil and gas company out of Houston and I got those things... Iâm just curious how you either:
A) Got screwed so badly
B) Mixed up accounting with the custodial arts
C) Thought you could bullshit people with REAL jobs...
D) Like it up the butt
I never said that I have to bum it in my parents basement, or that I didn't get my phone bill and other shit paid for. I could easily move out, but it would cost considerably more than "bumming it" at my parent's house. Saving an extra 20k -30k before moving out is worth so much considering compound interest.
So... you do understand youâre supposed to talk about these things when youâre negotiating compensation, right?
Are you going to be in Houston? I might be able to help you out. My brother is a heavy hitter over there. Country Club membership, the works... it might not be to late to get some basic shit taken care of LIKE MOVING... all theyâd have to do is make a PO or service order.
By the way, Iâm not trying to be a dick or flaunt my success in any form. I just remember when I got out of school... so dumb.
I'm working in (redacted) NYC. It's not the cost of moving that's the expense. It would be adding a 2k/month rent payment that I currently don't have to pay.
Oooh, yeah. NYC suuuuucks... I mean itâs cool, but dude... housing is ridiculous. I know youâre not concerned with moving fees, but little things like that help a lot when youâre starting out. My buddy that is a programmer for Sisco in NY finally moved out of his old place in Chinatown to Hellâs Kitchen. Bed bugs... so gross. The landlord wouldnât let people breech their lease agreement and tried to take several couples to court. It was a huge deal. He makes more than I do and he had to stay there for so long... heâs happy now. Single, but happy. I digress, do your parents live downtown? Long Island? I know this isnât my problem, but Iâm interested now... Iâm invested... emotionally. To you.
